  1. I might do it, but I wouldn't begin without a lot of comments and input first. I wouldn't have a clue how to detirmine the box dimensions or what to do about porting; those things would be better left to people on this forum that know.
  2. Just throwing this out there to see if it might be a worthwhile build. Gorm's been busy building 2 super RC 7's and others have done this in the past. Is there any merit to building a RC 84 using 4 K 1083's and 1 or more K67's? I have all the pieces and parts with the exception of building the right cabinet which isn't a problem but it would be building a RC 64 on steroids. I am only considering this based on being able to better spread the center channel to match up with a large TV or screen to enhance the center channel's presence. I AM NOT qualified in any way to figure out if I'm going down a dead end road or if there would be any merit to this approach. I do have the parts and I am a member of this great forum that has experts that are qualified to process that and let me know if it's worth the effort. Let er rip, I'm all ears. I also have some Bema tweets and tweeters from RB 5's laying around.
  3. Welcome to the madness. Please fasten your seatbelt and hold on because it can be a fast, furious and expensive ride. You my friend have a lot of questions and can look at this many different ways and are going to get many different opinions, all of which are just that because we can think of lots of different ways to spend YOUR money. Here's my .02 worth. Based on what you said about moving in 2 years and upstairs if really just for watching t.v. and maybe an occasional movie and to listen to some noise when you're not down in the basement, I would handle it this way; 1. Set your real budget for this first step and stick to the guidelines you set or your options are going to get crazy. 2. I would focus completely on getting the best major components and speakers for the basement and let this be the heart of your future system. 3. I would probably look at the used market for some selections, as an example, you could purchase a good sub for upstairs and scale down the other speakers to bookshelf speakers that could later be incorporated as additional surrounds in your ultimate system, but still be extremely effective for music and movies with the right sub, which by the way should be matched up IMHO with the sub for downstairs and then you can utilize those together for your future system or have 2 great stand alone subs. 4. If you're going to invest any kind of money to get started, and it sounds like you are, I would jump right into separates for downstairs and I might even consider that for upstairs (in the used market, or with amp matching with the downstairs system), again, looking at the future and having amps that can be integrated into one system is a nice option to have. 5. If you consider separates I would look at trying to get a great 9.1 or 9.2 processor, again, thinking down the road. 6. I would make sure that I've got plenty of power to drive the mains and center as they will remain the heart of the system now and in the future. The 7's are great speakers but they need to be driven properly to take advantage of their full potential. I haven't heard the RC64, but many on here can comment on that but I believe it can be a center that will keep up with your system for quite some time. 7. Depending on your skill level the subs might be a good DIY project or a kit build depending on the main focus of your subs (music or HT or if you're looking for something that does both well but neither best. I could go on, but others will offer different ideas and I'm just trying to let you know what some of your options are that may serve you better now and down the road.
  4. I must say that this is GREAT!!!! One of the best gifts you could give because the price really has nothing to do with it, it's the thought regarding the gift and you are in for some tears and a big hug I would suspect. [Y]
  5. I totally agree with that and I'm sitting here rocking out to a couple of RF 7's and one RSW 15 in an open 36 x 27 living space and I can make it sound like a disco, amphitheater, really anything I want. The 83's are a great speaker, but I'm a 7 guy and have a set of RS 7's for my side surrounds and eventually will pick up another set for the rears because they are great for surround or all channel stereo, they are really a great speaker. Keep them all, because you will need a great set of sides or rears and either pair would fill that need very well.[]Please don't get caught up in any of our opinions because in the end that's all they are and you have to go with what you really like and screw everyone else and I say that owning a ton of speakers including heritage, customs, RF's, and many others and they all sound great when set up in the right environment. Rock on and don't let others pick what you like. Look up the recent thread about "is there really a best" by Jhoak, I think and you can read about both sides of the spectrum........................the original post which really puts it out there and then some really stupid comments like there's some sort of quantifiable right set up and there's not, just what's right for you.
  6. They are just trying to figure out what they're worth and if someone has an interest in purchasing them. I've posted this in the garage sale section for them.
  7. Here's number 23Number 4 and the last one I have. Carolyn is in Camarillo, California so let's help her out and let her know what they're worth. This is Southern Cali
  8. Here are the pictures that I was sent to post regaring these speakers.
  9. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure people with Yamaha RXV experience will chime in but the first thing I would recommend is to hook everything up, get the center in a good position and aimed at your main viewing position and see what you think first. Does your Yamaha have Auddsey or some other form of automatic speaker set up? If it does I would run that through when everything is set up to at least identify the capabilities of each speaker. If I were going to suggest you purchase anything first it would be a good HT sub (you're going to need something pretty stoudt as your room is fairly large. The other issue is the tile floor and again, depending on furniture, drapes, area rugs you may need to tune that room in a bit but get it hooked up and start somewhere. Just my 2 cents.
  10. Great to watch it all unfold. I was never a Florida fan, but a Tebow fan.........you bet, so I'm not a Denver fan either, but still gotta hope he keeps learning and improving and winning. When there's so much crap in sports it's nice to see someone like this keep taking the abuse and keep smiling and winning.
  11. I thought about this and to be honest, if I were taking a white pair and making them black I would take the time to tape them off after getting the vinyl off with a heat gun and spray them, even if it's cans of paint and not a gun. You are only talking about 30 minutes more in time and a bit of tape and paper but it will give you a better total finish. I would assume that you need to paint the grills anyway and you will have to carefully spray those or dye them. JMHO, good luck and post some before and after pics.
  12. If you acquire enough stuff they have a hard time remembering everything and you can slide new stuff in without notice. I have equipment in every room and in the shop so I just tell her she didn't notice it but I've had it for a long time.[]
  13. I've seen these and the RF 35's go for 300-500 on quite a few occasions and when you consider that RB 5's and 81's go for that on a regular basis I would say that any nice pair in that range are a great deal.
  14. I was laughing at the play on words. There's certainly nothing humorous in what he "allegedly" has done. Quite the opposite. I couldn't agree more and I've expressed that in the thread I started after this came out, and that was exactly my point about humor and time but that said, there's always going to be people that get offended.
  15. There's always that fine line regarding how much time has to pass before a tragic event can be joked about. Over Thanksgiving a couple of my future in laws thought they would get a dig or two in about Penn State knowing what a fan I was and when I fired back a couple of times with things I thought were funny my GF's mom didn't appreciate it at all, but after a little hugging and horseplay in the shower, she was fine.[]
  16. Get another one and quit regretting it. I love mine and wouldn't give it up for anything. I have so many regrets and they all have to do with selling equipment and thinking that I would just replace it. Long story short, in my early 20's I had a ton of German equipment, Saba and Revox and for those of you that never had the opportunity to listen to Saba tube radios and the receivers they made I can only say that if you get the chance you should. It was a time when my now X-1 drained my accounts and put me in a bind and I sold all of it and have never been able to get it replace it. The up side of all of that is that now I've got some fine Klipsch speakers and some other wonderful pieces and a really cool community to go down the road with all over again; but I really want my German stuff back.[]
  17. Had I known it was going to be that easy I would have done it a year ago.
  18. That is so difficult to say and very personal. I've always first decided what I was looking for and then the top I was willing to pay (all condition driven) and started to hunt. When I was first building my RF 7 surround system I knew that I wanted all matching, 7.1 and nothing less than an RSW 15, some of the pieces I bought way right, while other ones were closer to my max. but in the end it all worked out and I was happy and still am, but I still buy all of my equipment that way, unless it is a really sweet number, then I might buy it just because of the deal.
  19. There's beans in mine always, and some jalapeno's, heck once in a while some hot italian sausage too, just what ever hits me that time. I always cook up a huge pot for a day or two so I can freeze up at least 6-10 additional meals with the same amount of work and an additional 10 minutes to get it ready for the freezer.
  20. If you happen to find a set of the RF 35 towers for the same range they perform very well also. I reluctantly sold a pair to a very close friend for $500 and they were a 10 all the way and he loves them too. That said if you came across a pair of 7's for $800 or under, IMPO you would be crazy not to grab them instead.
  21. If there's no way to clean it because of the bleed through caused by the backing material you could actually paint them but you would want to spray them and do it with multiple coats that are extremely light so you don't block the holes in the cloth. Have you tried using a foaming cleaner like you would spray on carpet spots and tried to isolate the backing board so it doesn't come in contact with the cleaner?
  22. I just wiped it down with a damp rag and painted it.
  23. I'm glad to hear that you got it back up and running. I just went through the same thing when I moved my surround back upstairs and had to program everything over again and I've done this a lot and still had to pull all the manuals back out to get everything programed back in. The book is still out so I can run the testing for the surround but it can be a real PITA.
