I feel strongly that the Heresy are giving more than I need in that roll. However, I should give it a try, since the pieces are already here. Maybe this weekend.

I have always felt the Danley's are bloated sounding in the upper end of their range. So, yes, I am crossing the Khorns lower than I did the LS. I hear and measure a flatter response this way. But this isn't settled. I prefer different crossover points with different content. The overall sound is "larger", comes from less of a point source. This might be due to the mids and highs crossing in front of my listening position now. I'm sure there are more reflections, which seem an improvement actually. It seems more a wall of sound. There is an increased level of detail and separation between instruments. The soundfield is deeper. I could be convinced some of this is in my head, except that I've experienced similar differences when listening to a friends Khorns over the years. I enjoy listening in 2 channel more with the Khorns too. Likely my preferred option for 2 channel, whereas it was not with the LS. Of course, there is always a certain percentage of mystery to how people perceive sound. I'm not an audio journalist and may not be clear in what I'm saying...or even saying what I want to say. But to put it all another way, I won't be pulling the Khorns out to put the LS back in place. As for the LS, I'm not sure what will become of them? I don't feel they are necessary for surround duty. My Heresy I's are doing a fine job. I could possibly use them as a 2 channel system in another room. Selling them would help justify the Khorn expense, but I have loved them for a long time, it would feel like I was untrue to a faithful friend. BTW, I saw your involvement in the threads about the Golden Jubiliees. My Khorns came from the same estate auction (WC Fischer).

So I tried. No improvement. Possibly a larger stage with them crossing in front of me. I had to try.

If both truly are at a great price, buy both and decide which to keep after lengthy auditioning! I had ben using 3 LaScala for a long time and never thought I'd change. A good buy on Khorns came up, so I grabbed them. My audition may last decades before I make a decision. 😄

I just finished the 3rd episode and have to agree. Picture and sound quality have been outstanding! I hope this gives Amazon confidence to produce more quality. It seems PQ and AQ are available in only 1 in 100 titles for them. So far, my best streaming experience with AQ is still Stranger Things S4 on Netflix. That was competitive with good blurays.

Thanks. They are integrating together well. For music, I am listening sometimes with the Khorns alone. Even if they don't sound quite as nice, there is some satisfaction in enjoying what they do alone. Of course, for movies, the subs still seem to be half of the audio experience!

I agree with Coytee. She would be selling something of emotional value for an insignificant amount. They will take effort to store and hold onto, but I wonder if her future might hold a home for these? It would bring me great comfort to watch his great grandchildren dance to music played through "Grandpa's" speakers years down the road. Priceless. I would hope that happens to mine.

My prior experience with other speakers tells me to be uncomfortable with the axis of my two Khorns meeting about 5' in front of my listening position. My ears tell me it is glorious. I'm thinking or disconnecting the top section and rotating so that the axis hits at my LP. Is this common practice? Or, are the Khorns designed to allow for this? Speakers are 17' apart at the corners. I typically sit 22' back. My front row is 11' back, and the sweet spot is very narrow for that row. The third row is at about 26' back and it sounds great from there. Thanks!

For the last 12 years, I ran 3 LaScala's across the front. Just changed to Khorns with LaScala center. Immediate and definite improvements.

The day has come to see this post of mine come to fruition. After years of keeping my eyes on the internet, the right Khorn deal for me, came along. My left and right LaScalas have been replaced with a pair of '75 Khorns in nice but not perfect condition. I will repeat much of what's been said. I use them crossed over to a pair of subs and even so, notice many changes from the LaScalas. I'm currently running the K's with a crossover down at 30hz. My overall sound seems improved in the mid bass area, which you would expect. The room feels more "loaded" with sound. Not just in low frequencies, but across the range. Specific instruments and detail are improved. I enjoy them more at lower volumes. Clarity is improved. Imaging is improved. The sound-field has more depth. I got up twice the first day to make sure my surrounds were not on. I also had to make sure my sub wasn't on. My expectations were low, as we love the LaScalas so much. With the same drivers, I assumed bass would be the only improvement. In the first minute of listening I knew I had made a good decision and most importantly, my wife smiled right away. It was a worthy change.

I tried twice to get the pictures to work. I'll try again.

Finally, I came across the right Khorn deal for me. It has taken 10 years of watching for them. Replaced my left and right LaScalas with Khorns. I expected subtle improvements, but got more than I hoped for.

Agree with a poster above, that all I see are stories! I would enjoy having them for that reason alone. I have my LS behind a theater screen and they are very nice. I could just as well have a beat up pair and save a grand or two. Hmmm. 😈

My decision might hinge on what the future holds. If I was going to be in an apartment for years longer, I wouldn't bother with the change. If a shorter period of time, all you have to do is stay light on the throttle until you have a better environment.

This has been my choice for the last 12 years. They are on risers because my listening seats are also on risers. The large black boxes between are Danley DTS10 horn loaded subs. I imagine it will look just like this the day my kids come to sell off our estate. The dynamics for movies are off the charts. If it was very convenient for me to audition Khorns in the L/R locations, I suppose I would. But considering I have these front 3 for $2k, it would be hard to convince me of any value in spending more.

Hahaha. You must have not heard them? That would answer your question. As others have said, the performance for the price on my LCR of LaScalas and Heresy rears is just not available. In fact, I'm guessing you'd have to spend 10 times the budget to best them. Maybe a full blown JTR setup? But mine have been enough to make me stop even worrying about something better. I also love that they have a history. Mine are 40 years old. There's a pride of ownership that comes with that. I'm not sure I would trade for any other system?

I'm running 45 year old LaScalas for my LCR. Short changing? No freakin' way! I have heard many systems and not one has matched the dynamics. A room your size, I would jump up to LaScalas, Khorns or Jubs. They were designed for larger than typical applications.

I had the KL650's and switched to an all Heritage theater with 3 LaScalas up front. The KL's didn't compare in any way to the horsepower this setup. As someone else mentioned, the compression drivers seem delicate. I blew one and had to replace it. The KL's didn't do anything better. I would only consider them in a smallish theater that was limited on speaker size.

I haven't been on here in ages. Fun to come back around, see old names and find an interesting conversation like this one. I have an all Heritage theater too. Front stage of 3 LaScalas. I've compared my Heresies in the center vs my LaScala center. It's not even close, and I would do whatever necessary to use a LaScala. I'm not as impressed with Heresies as the rest of the world seems. I do use them for surrounds though. Have you considered a hanging tv mount that would allow it to be moved off the wall and closer to the seating? You might then have the depth needed? If necessary, flipping the LS onto it's side? Or switching video display to a projector and transparent screen? Interested to see where you end up. No doubt you will have one amazing sounding theater! I'll never trade mine!

Looks great! Don't sweat the base response. You'll cross them to subs and never again question it.

You should be able to find a used DTS10 for about $1k. In my opinion, you would be hard pressed to find a better value in base (short of building your own). I always warn folks, the DTS10 is a raw sub with no internal EQ. I was not pleased with mine for the entire first year I owned it. It took me that long to work out the learning curve on placement and outboard EQ. You have to be willing to work this sub into your room through measurements and trial and error. This is true of all subs, but particularly necessary with this sub. I could help shorten your learning curve if you were to get one.
