  1. The lowest I've seen were beat to hell with some drivers not working and were still at $400. As others have said, yours appear to be in at least fair condition. Depending on time you're willing to wait for the right buyer and location, I'd be in a range from $800 to $1200. I'd expect they'd sell in a matter of days for less than $800.
  2. I posed the "cleaning" question when I got mine. Was told by several to not fool with it. You can cause more harm than good. I did use my compressor and blew off the dust. Did a fine job. You will likely replace capacitors, easier to clean at that point.
  3. You did AWESOME! I'd buy another pair at that price even though I don't need them! LOL Your name and story are familiar....were you posting over on AVS? It sounds in a way like you feel you've settled for a lesser speaker than the 83? If you've got the room and can get them dialed in well, I think your search for something "better" will be over. The AL3 crossover is considered less desirable by most people. Mine came with them and I switched out to AA's with a few extra filters (thanks to the help of speakerfritz). It did smooth the sound out a bit. Nothing drastic, but something to put in the back of your mind for now. Enjoy!
  4. My Heresy 1's don't in any way compare to my LS 1's. It's likely pronounced because of my room size (18x33). You might not feel the same in a smaller room? But still, there is something that happens to the mid range with the deeper squaker. It has a smoothness in the mid range that nothing else lower in the chain has.
  5. I've got RS62ii as side surrounds along with a 3 LS front and Heresy rears. I don't have any issues with them. If you want bipolar on the sides, you dont really have an option. They have no problem keeping pace with the LS, which was my biggest concern. I blew two other sets of less capable surrounds trying to do so. I experimented with some Acoustic Research speakers as height channels. It didn't go well at all. They didn't have a chance keeping up with the LS, even when level matched they were just swallowed up. I'm not convinced that height channel is worth it. At least not from that experiment.
  6. For theater purposes, I don't see how that would be an "upgrade"?
  7. Won't hurt me to try...better than putting the RS51s back in their original boxes. Thanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's the fun part! You can try it all and make your own conclusion! Of everything discussed in this thread, I feel you need to get beyond the "splitting" of the LaScala thing. You would be compromising your setup significantly over nothing more than principle. No need to split them anyhow...just store the extra.
  8. Excited for you! When you get them all freshened up, your jaw will be hanging on the floor! Post some photos sometime when you get it together and presentable.
  9. If you are new to the big horns and have only heard them individually, then honestly, you haven't experienced what they are capable of in a theater environment! I only mention more sub assuming you wanted it to match the capabilities of the rest of that system. That Klipsch sub can not. Which may work for your taste, but it's not well matched. Can you share your room size? I say 10:1 that you won't appreciate the addition of wides or heights. But maybe you have just the right layout to take advantage of it? Khorns at the top of there game WILL NOT need supliment. There will also be a fairly large difference in using a LS vs. a Heresy at the center position. It's the most important speaker in the group (for theater) and I'd go to considerable effort to use the LS there.
  10. IMO, you'd be in the top few percent of ALL options for home theater! I love my RS62's, they can keep up with the big horns. Not sure about the choice of RS52's. Your choice of sub is going to have the largest impact on that system. It takes alot of sub to run with the Khorns and LaScala. By your choices, I assume the room is larger than most (mine is 18x33'x9.5'). Room volume can suck the energy right out of subwoofers. My pair are about the size of a Volkswagon, but it really isn't overkill for the room volume and to match with the big Klipsch. So start thinking of subs with more output. I tried 9.2, but honestly didn't feel hieghts offerend much. Let's face it, the Khorns and LaScala can send out a fairly large wall of sound without any suppliments.
  11. Don't know about the comparison, but the price on these is about as low as you'll find for average to good condition.
  12. Yowsa. I was about to pull the trigger, but look at those prices. I was hoping that with the failure of HDDVD they would have become dirt cheap, but they stayed proud of this one! My luck. I'll probably still do it, just have to work up a bit more motivation. I stuck HFO in for a minute yesterday. Funny how your expectations change. HD video shocked me when I first saw it, and now that old 4:3 standard def stuff shocks me! Hard to look at.
  13. Yes, I still have a Toshiba HDDVD player in my rack. It never did get much use....probably not more than 25 hours. I'll hunt ebay, etc. for the disc.
  14. No I haven't. Sounds like you notice enough difference to warrent a purchase? Guess I'll have to.
  15. I've got both too. I've grown to appreciate the Farewell tour more. For one thing, it is filmed in 1.85 aspect, which just looks less dated. The audio is a toss up between the two for me. To be honest though, neither make the cut for my demo concerts any longer. The modern bluray concerts are cleaner recordings. Still awesome stuff though. I may be inspired to have a beer or two and an evening with The Eagles this weekend!
  16. Thanks! That'll be awesome to have!
  17. You might not localize the tone, but I can tell where the energy is coming from. Also, the LFE channel contains info up to 120hz, so even with a crossover set to 80, it is recommended to keep LFE at 120, or lose information.
  18. No offense, only surprise. But...we're way off topic. Consider it dropped on my part. You're quite right that he stated no sub.
  19. For kicks, I put one of my Heresy I's in place of my LaScala center. Significant difference. Would the Heresy work? yes. But after comparing to the LaScala in that position, it is clearly a compromised solution.
  20. You guys are a rough crowd. Yes I do. But I suppose that depends on how you define cheap and small? What I had in mind when I made the comment was my old Velodyne F1500R, which I sold for $300 recently. That sub would have greater, clean 30 hz output. Measured in my room, it was nice and strong down to 17hz. This mod isn't going to bring a LS anywhere close to that. This thought isn't worth putting up with the insults from the click of Klipsch experts. I'm sure you could have found a polite way to educate me. Peace out.
  21. It was posed as a question, realizing we all have our own opinion. I've had experiences that led me to mine, and that's how I would advise a friend. Of course, the mod is free and if you find it fun to tinker and experiment then it's worth a shot.
  22. I was thinking the same thing as I was catching up on the thread. Then I see where you said it! I agree, too many red flags with his experience. I'm not defending Danley, the sound signature may not be his taste, but it certainly shouldn't be a bad experience. I'm going to call operator error. I'm a Site Planner, and can't tell you how many projects (majority) are designed beautifully on paper and then idiots get involved and chop it all to hell. End result, is my name attached to a crap job.
  23. This is the first season I'm NOT watching. It's turned into more of a TV show than a singing competition. Anyway, I noticed in the early seasons the 5.1 audio (OTA) was outstanding. Last year, the mixing was pathetic! After awhile, we didn't even fire up the theater for it, we'd just watch on TV. I'm sure they had a personel change in that department.
  24. considering all the work, wouldn't a sub be more logical? Even a small, cheap sub would do more for the low end than modding the LS cabinet. Wouldn't it?
  25. I put paragraphs... Don't know hy they didnt show?
