  1. He wouldn't even let me hook em up to demo, Craig is a man set in his ways, and there is not a thing wrong with that , there are many path's to happiness.I'll have to come see your set and my orphans some day in the future.
  2. Good to hear, yeah those JVC's had awesome easy set up, loved those servo arms. Also, come on people, is no one out there in Klipsch Land looking for a killer deal on some monster horns, I think Coytee has been slacking on selling the Kool-Aid of Jube[]. I'd have kept the whole shebang if I had the space to really make them really sing.
  3. Hey don, idk whats going on I have pm'd you back like 2 times. I actually ended up having NOSvalves, take the bins as he was buying some other stuff from me as well, sorry for the communication break down.
  4. Does that mean you are interested in the dx-38? PM me and we can get this rolling. Thanks-Kevin
  5. The big boys, if you are looking you know what they are. Horn and drivers: S1400+S/H more then happy to do local pick up. Electrovoice DX38: $450 shipped. Active crossover with Roy's setting for the JubeScala entered into it, but easy to change from the unit itself. Currently on HOLD for Colterphoto. SAE 1000LT: $150 shipped, awesome HOMC line contact stylus, around 50-100 gentle use hours on my turntable, works like a champ, much life left and these are going for $300 NOS from the few sources that still have them. Comes with guard, nice case and box. Pictures. http://imgur.com/a/h6yJQ Video. Located in Saginaw, MI 48602. Thanks-Kevin
  6. I'm perfectly happy staying 2.1, but I do use a Onkyo 886 as my video/digital preamp, so if some day comes when I have the cash to build them, power them, and the space to place them a 5.1 jubscala set up would be pretty excellent. I just don't think that day is in this decade. I enjoy mutli-channel mostly for film, but once you go big on a stereo system the costs involved to moving up is just to much for me at this point in my life.
  7. An interesting idea but horn loading by nature is extremely exponential in size as the frequency gets lower, then end result would be very very unpleasent, I think you would be much better just taking $400 and buying a nice pair of bookshelf speakers, there is no way to make a foot tall bass horn work in as far as I know.
  8. I agree, also Forte and Chorus would also be worth your time, I think going from RF-7's you will really really miss the bass you have now with Heresys. If you ever make it to the Tri cities you're more then welcome to come check out my Jubscala's,another forum member Bob Riff has Jubilees about 20 from me as well, though I obviously can't speak for him.
  9. I have done the top box mod, though I am usuing a K402 now so I simply replaced the horn motor board and ported it using 4x7.5" pvc, and sealed the rear. It certianly does add more bass and I'm fairly happy with it plus I can dail the bass up or a down a bit with my DX-38. I will say however the bass I get is not quite as clean as it was before, but they could also be perception due to the fact it was quite anemic before, I also replaced my woofers with Crites cast frames if that in any way matters.
  10. If you ever make it to Mid-Michigan you are more then welcome to check out my set up, I have active Jubscalas with K402/k69, also Bob whose username I forget lives about 20 min from me and has Factory prototype Jubilee's with K510/BMS(I think) and a factory passive network. He gracious enough to allow me to hear his system before I took my plunge so he may be open for more but I can't speak for him.
  11. The image got cut off by the forum limets I guess here is the enitre thing http://i47.tinypic.com/10n5m52.jpg. 1. Diffusion is out as it will block the projector path in the already low room. But could I simply make a few 24x48 fabric wrapped absorbtion panels and grid mount them instead of ceiling tiles? 2. Sadly my rear corners are a no go one is an open doorway to the stariway landing/utility room and the other will contian an in wall bookshelf I will be using for vinyl/bluray storage. Will the traps that close to the scalas be that detrimental? Thanks-Kevin
  12. So I am in the process of converting part of my basement into a theater room and I am far from an expert on these things so I thought I might pick some of the brains of the vast wealth of experience here. I will be building a false wall with an acoustically tranparent screen and then most likely using AT rose brand speaker cloth as bezel around the screen to essentially make a floor to ceiling false wall. I plane on housing my jubscalas and DTS-10 behind this wall and I have a few questions in regards to both placement and room treatment. I have gone through and used the RT60 spreadsheet from audiokarma to get a decent baseline of what my room issues may be and it appears to look pretty good with the exception of bass. the room is mostly painted cinder block, and will contian capret with pad, and a RNC .55 ceiling tiles. My RT60 information looks as follows. Total Absorption (Sabines) 63 Hz 125 Hz 250 Hz 500 Hz 1 kHz 2 kHz 4 kHz 8 kHz 295.8396 366.0055 390.6992 474.011 535.1903 575.4294 534.4023 523.8265 0.31 0.25 0.24 0.19 0.17 0.16 0.17 0.18 Reverberation time being the 3rd set of numbers. From what I have read it appears most of reverbs are within .05 as is desired except my low end, so I have been thinking that I will use double stacked 3' roxul safe and sound floor to ceiling diagonally across the rear corners to help as bass traps. I also think I may use 3" absorbers both for the first reflection point and bahind the seated listening positon. My question is are these good options, should I look into more/less treatments, difussers, etc? WAF is no factor, but Cash is so DIY is my only real options here, and I'd like to keep treatments to under $200usd if possible. My second question pertains to jubscalas and their room placement, obviously my diagram is just a rough mock up and I may toe the speakers in as well, should I be trying to back the rears of the speakers directly up to the bass traps or do they need space? How close should they be to side wall, not that I have much wigle room? I know from what I've read of AT screens that I will need like 5-8" of air between the screen and the speakers, so I am basically trying to figure out how much of my room I need to cut off with the screen wall to allow the Jubs the space they need. Also I know that 12.5' isn't alot of space for a pair of K402 horns, am I worried over nothing? How well do jubs image in small rooms, the closest I've ever had mine where about 11' center to center, but the drawn of gettign all this ugly(but wonderful sounding) gear out of my living room and hidden from sight is very appealing to me. So thoughts on the room, treatments, and placement? Can Jub's be happy this close together? Am I a fool for trying to squeeze that much hardware in such a tight space? Thanks! 13. I agree Chris, honestly I do, my idea isn't even really for you, if anything I just get a bit of kick out of friends who praise the significant sound difference in lossless and listen to it on cheap hardware, in the end I think it's mostly in their heads, being a younger guy most of friends are not listening to high quality recording to begin with anyway. Either way in the end I love my share of well and poor recorded music, and it's all about enjoying the experience, something we are all blessed with in this hobby no matter our budgets.
  14. As I stated in my previous post I agree there is no reason not to store in lossless given how cheaply storage is for a home media solution, and I do. I do however believe the differences in high bitrate well encoded mp3 are not as large an elephant that some make it out to be, but again thats my ears, my music, my system, this obviously is not true for everyone. If I really wanted to open a can of wormsI also think my digital front end sounds better then my vinyl system, but I still enjoy both for what they do.
  15. I also think mp3's get demonized a bit more so then they deserve, the compression was painfully obvious in the early days when 192kb/s was the norm, but in all honesty I get a huge kick out of threads on places like head-fi where they ABX test 320kb/s versus WAV/FLAC, very very very few people can consistently tell the difference and this is mostly through mid to very high end headphone gear, I wouldn't stand a snowballs change in hell ABX on my jubs.I still back up in flac becuase hey space is cheap, but I'm sure I would never be able to tell.
  16. TubaHT or Danley DTS-10, no replacement for displacment.
  17. Correct the basic idea with a USP-1 or any preamp with an HT-Bypass is this, the unit sits between your AV pre/pro and your amps, when you wish to use the AV unit it is in effect simply a peice of wire, but you hook up say any analog gear you have to the USP-1 and use it when you wish to listen to analog 2.1 channel music. This at least for my needs proved infinately better then the analog inputs on the onkyo, and I think I picked one up for like $275 used so money very well spent imho.
  18. I use both onkyo and emotiva products in my set up, so I have a few thoughts to add. First while I have an older 886, I'm sure the newer unit is simply more of a good thing, but the unit is not without it's issues. The biggest issue with my 886 is any analog input sounds like pure garbage, hollow, dead sounding, and thin. This is not to say the unit does not sound good, on a pure digital chain it sounds amazing, and I am a firm believer in audessey. However I love vinyl, so I was left in the cold when I sold off my 2 channel gear, that's where emotiva came to the rescue, I picked up a USP-1 with HT bypass, and a tube phono stage, now I can enjoy all of the benefits of the onkyo when in the digital realm, and not hate to play my records. I cannot comment on emotiva's HT pre-pro or it's replacement as I haven't heard either of them, but I can say for digital music the onkyo was a game changer in my system, and I am very happy with it. I am also using emotiva amps.
  19. Just built a Flexy table rack tonight for my rig, I really like it and it was a breeze to build with a little help from my friend. Now I just to need a break out my actual camera to get a few nice shots.
  20. Bob could you let us know if you ever plan on offering a passive jubscala x-over, would be interested for sure.
  21. Looks similar. The Parasound Z series is for using in zone setups, but looks very much the same.Bruce Yep they both have passthroughs for linking, 12v triggers, and autosignal sensors so I'd say yeah it's Emo's attempt at a zone amp, though obviously not as feature rich.
  22. True, but with no spec below 20 hz and a 95db signal to noise ratio, it would not be something I would look at. For running my outdoor speakers I'm looking at it real hard, my neighbors will never know the difference. Plus I run a DTS-10 below 80hz, like I said it's not something for everyone but it is cheap and cheerful, and it sounds better then my XTI's did so I'm fairly happy for the price I paid thus far. I think Emo built this thing for exactly the same market that parasound covers.
