  1. My Preacher is quick witted, too quick. I gave the church a pair of HIPs (Heresy Industrials). When I carried them in, I apologized for bringing Heresy into the church. He fell right in and ran with it! He said he was sure I could be forgiven.
  2. It sounds like the market demand thing happened to the rumoured "horn amp" from Aragon. That's too bad. I was hoping to be forced to start an amp fund for it. I don't have any bright ideas for marketing the Heritage stuff. As for the electronics, you'd have to "lease" some Aragon equipment to them to be sure they were demo'd well. You might even have to set up the systems. When I win the lottery, .......
  3. That's great news, Jim! We might miss you, but have better things to do.
  4. John! You missed the Heritage demonstration? The AK-4 and the ALK crossovers use film and foil capacitors, probably the best kind. They materially contribute to the sound clarity. The ALKs go another step and use air-core inductors and even Litz wire inductors for the tweeter. Generally, the advantages of these crossovers come from the high quality parts used. The Type A through Type AK-3 used paper and foil in oil motor-start capacitors. I replaced the caps in my Type AAs with Hovland film and foil caps ans like the result, at least on the tweeter; noticible clarity improvement.

    Phono pre-amps?

My Aragon 47K sounds REALLY good.

  7. Tom, Great purchase! They are pre-1962 mahogany K-horns. The mid horn is correct and the tweeter horn mounting is correct, as is the crossover. The factory will have to look up the date by the serial numbers. With those, make no changes that are not easily reversible, if you make any. How rare those must be and look at their condition!
  8. Your English is much better than my French, mon ami! Upgrading your crossovers is a very good solution. Solen is a French company that makes very good air-core inductors and metalized film capacitors. I'd convert your AK-2 to AK-3 specs using Solen components. Replace the caps and coils, but leave the autoformer (multi-terminal inductor looking thing). If you search the "Updating" section for AK-3, you will find the schematic. There are 3 other alternatives, 1 - Find K-55-Vs (or new Atlas PD5-VH midrange drivers, Atlas is the OEM) and Type AA networks on ebay.com. You can build your own Type AAs with Solen parts. 2 - Order a pair of Al Klappenberger's crossovers. www.alkeng.com 3 - Order and Type AK-4 Upgrade Kit from Klipsch. It will bring your K-horns to 2003 specification, including K-55-X AlNiCo squawker (midrange) driver, new tweeter and new crossover. The price is about $US4500 or about that many Euros.
  9. It's overkill to be sure. However, I believe that is the smallest Parasound amp with MOSFET outputs. It will also operate in Class A well over 1.5 watts, so you will probably get very good sound out of it.
  10. Did you mean morally wounded?
  11. Yeah, You're going to have to give us more help with size and budget. The ultimate Klipsch HT would be WAY past $25,000 for six K-horns, false corners for 2 and a couple of hairy subwoofers. A system that good could not be insulted by using a receiver, so add $10k for electronics. Your room should be BIIG for this system, too, say, 25' x 35' or more. I'm guessing you have a typical room and budget. We listened to, I think, an RF-35 system with all Rx-35 components and an RW-12 sub when we were in Indy. It really knocks your socks off! It was $3500 for 5.1, or maybe 6.1. RF-5s and -7s go up in price and RF-15s and -25s go down. I am a Heritage fan and usually prefer the old designs like the K-horn, Belle, La Scala and Heresy. FYI, 6 Heresy IIs and an RSW-12 should be about $8k and would sound real to the point of being hard to describe. In approximate order of cost (and sound), I'd look at Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon, NAD and B&K receivers. The cost range is from $500 to $5000 here, depending on features. Look on the Klipsch.com web page for a dealer locator. You will have to travel to a large city to hear the Heritage line. Alternately, some of us may be willing to show off our systems for you. The Reference line will be available in a fair number of quality retailers. The Synergy series (lower priced that what I've discussed) is available at Best Buys, etc.
  12. I have at least 2 70's era K-77s (AlNiCo) I will trade even one for one for K-77-Ms. I can measure the diaphragms DC resistance, but there was little difference between the 8 and 16 ohm version's DCR. The 16 ohm diaphragms are not easily found, but if you did, they would fit.
  13. Define Panels. There are several updates possible and one from Klipsch that will make yours the same as the 2003 K-horn. It is $$$$$. What reason do you have to want an upgrade?
  14. A solidly-made false corner causes no performance penalty. Therefore, the ideal center would be another K-horn. A Belle Center is NOT a poor choice either. Mr. Paul used 2 K-horns in false corners with a Belle center in his house. I got to hear them, too!!
  15. I use it for most of my interconnects and I love it. It has a good price for the performance it gives. The silver-clad copper (red cover) is what I use in all of the 2-channel circuits and I use the OFC Cu (black) in the rest. I believe the 1m black were $20 each and the 1m red was $40 each. I heard an audible difference between the red and black that I thought wa improvement.
  16. Hi, Ross! ?Que Pasa? Rudy, Don't change anything until you have listened to them for a while. The Forums are full of La Scala Mods discussions when you're ready.
  17. It looks pretty original to me! Wow! Thanks for posting the pics. Those do appear to be mr. Paul's initials. At that time, he had only one employee and Belle, his wife, helped. Drivers were changed often in those days and a customer could even specify his own sometimes. The crossover is too complex and the "tweeter" is not Klipsch, but the bass horn should be the real thing.
  18. Shawn, Superb! I have some 902-8Bs and 511Bs, but haven't designed a crossover for them to make 2-way La Scalas, yet! How does the efficiency of the 902 differ from the K-55-V on the 511B?
  19. Switch your squawker to taps 0 and 4(pos) and keep the inputs on 0 and 5(pos). See if that helps.
  20. That sounds like a real K-33-E.
  21. Well Roger, How did you find out they'd been sold?! I was expecting an e-mail and pretty well wanted them, but haven't heard anything. Dang!
  22. I think you should look at something from Aragon. Their power amps run in class A up to 20 watts, or so. I believe I was told the Palladium has a tube front-end.
  23. The bolts connect to a barrier strip under the squawker that connects to the crossover network.
  24. I'd love to have them, but I don't know where I'd put them! I don't have a warehouse like Tony Reed! Ebay and audiogon.com are actually good places to sell them. Shipping can be done with moving companies or maybe Forward Air.
