  1. http://www.passlabs.com/products.htm How about Nelson Pass amps? At up to $4k, you might be able to get into Krell and certainly there is MacIntosh.
  2. I've got 2 pieces of Original Monster Cable laying about! I bought it in college 20+ years ago. I'm not using it because it's green inside the insulation. Wonder what it sounds like?
  3. Assuming you DID build the ALKs as Al designed them, they are unlikely to be the cause of your dead rweeters. An over-driven amp is. The ALKs do let more low frequency get to the tweeters than your Type ALs. You can do one of 2 things. Add the bulb and resistor to the tweeter circuit as shown in the attached schematic, or insert the dual zener diodes from your Type ALs. The diode trick is effective, but harsh sounding. The bulb and resistor smoothly limit the voltage applied to the tweeter, long term, and also comprise a 1 dB L-pad. Since the tweeter carries a rating of 105 dB/w/m, you will probably like this mod.
  4. Fruit Jar? Hmmm. I believe that's the stump where I leave an envelope in the morning and find a gift in the afternoon. I can handle it.
  5. I'm not sure I can detect a difference between MFSL's gold "Blow by Blow", Jeff Beck, and the commercial CD. I have 4 versions of that recording, 2 on vinyl and 2 on CD.
  6. Jhawk, You do not have Klipsch installed diodes. Klipsch used threaded zener diodes bolted on an aluminum plate. Instead of what someone has added to you xovers, add the bulb and resistor as shown in the attached schematic.
  7. Please come to a "Meet and Greet" at 8PM Friday night in the Breakfast Nook of the Comfort Inn at 9090 Wesleyan Road! We'll have snacks and finger foods. Please bring an example of your favorite adult beverage to share. I'll supply some extra beer and who knows what else I might bring from Tennessee. There will be ice tubs to chill your beverage. We'll see you there!

  9. Yes. They are poured to shape from a slurry; mud.
  10. Could one of the voice coils be partially shorted?
  11. Now that we've had a load of fun out of you, the attached pic shows a woofer with a ceramic magnet. If you don't know the difference, you are too young to have ever seen an AlNiCo driver in person. EVERY car stereo driver has a ceramic magnet.
  12. The resistance matters, but there is a point of diminishing returns. I'd look at 14 or 12 ga.
  13. I haven't set up anything, yet, but I did last time in a meeting area off of the lobby.
  14. jhawk, I unbolted one of the diodes and removed it from the aluminium plate it was bolted to. That removes both from the circuit, but makes it easy to restore their operation. I have K-77-Ms that have a 5 watt continuous, 50 watt peak rating. The K-77 is 2/20 watts. I will not damage K-77-Ms in my relatively small 18' x 20' room. K-77s are a different matter. With them sane, might be better called polite. Removing the diodes removes a harsh hash at LOUD SPLs. Below 2 watts to the tweeter (~108 dB), they have no effect.
  15. For the last 4 years my wife and I have been driving rice-burners made in the U.S. I specifically asked that the Honda come from Ohio and my truck was made here in Tennessee. Previously, my American SUV was made in Windsor, Ontario. Irony?
  16. What is the difference between Mechanical Engineers and Civil Engineers? Mechanical Engineers build weapons and Civil Engineers build targets. This one is actually true and the source of many jokes at work.
  17. It looks like the bickering in the General Forum got so bad the Webmaster killed it along with our Indy Trip conversations. This is a reminder. The date is June 21. If you arrive a day early, I'll try to host a mixer at the hotel Friday Evening. Trey got us some great rates ($43) at some hotel. I forgot to print the thread and I don't have the name, Dang it! The deadline for reservations is 5/30. Don't miss it! Saturday night there is dinner and live music at a jazz club and others are available. Y'all Come!

  19. We need to get our reservations!
  20. You have to tell us what you want to do with them.
  21. b-man1, You need to reread the thread. Delta did not get jumped.
