  1. Finite amount of oil in this world. I would rather use up oil from another part of the world so that when it's gone we can tap what is left in our region. Suppose they were to give a war and we did not have the fuel to participate. Now imagine that it's a war on terror and is in our region. Normally I prefer made in America, or produced in America. But not at the expense of our security. So OPEC is forcing us to preserve our natural resources. Is this really bad? Price for fuel goes down. Resources are not squandered. Average Joe Blow citizen does not have to pay as much for fuel. And there is reserves for future use. Down side; Oil companies don't make as much money. OPEC's oil will not last forever. Lets use as much of it as we can while saving what we have for a latter day. Like others here I'll miss Boxx.
  2. Family can sell them if they want. AFTER I DIE. My use is to listen to music with them. And to compare with other equipment. Just don't want to mess up the value after I'm gone. No plans to make my exit any time soon. I have thinned the herd to the equip I want to keep. Now to just get them into good working order. Thanks for the info and opinions.
  3. I have a few of the old tube stereos and am wondering how replacing parts other than tubes can affect value. Sometimes I have seen where someone has stated a safety upgrade needs to be done. Hard to argue with this one. Othertimes I hear that the original capacitors needs to be upgraded. Then again I've heard that all original is worth more $$$ if everything is original as long as it works. mc30's are in question. Not an audiophile
  4. Gave a copy to a 30 something coworker. He had never heard of Alice's Restaurant. He played it until his kids banned him from it. Put a smile on his face.
  5. If you get the good hospital grade cords you'll get sexy little nurses in skimpy uniforms, but with cheapy ones you end up with a big nurse named Bertha. Ain't no way I'm dressing up for nobody. Just remember "What the eyes have seen, cannot be unseen". I've bought $30 12ga 100ft extension cords that worked every bit as good as the $65 one I bought in a pinch. Can't tell the difference one from the other. I don't think I would know the difference between a cheap power cord or expensive. Not at the amount of current used.
  6. Didn't we have one of those a few days ago? Dang that last year was fast.
  7. That's what I tried to tell the Judge.
  8. I got a cord I on old coffee maker I can cut off and send to you. heh heh

Isolated the problem to the Preamp. Have been in contact with Terry D.
  11. In my opinion bose is for the uneducated masses. However despite my dislike for bose, I tell people that like the sound of bose they should enjoy themselves. I would hope that the Heritage series makes enough $$$ to keep American Workers employed. You can't please all the people with one product. Nor will all the people be satisfied with one brand. My wife runs an adult foster care home at our house. Good equipment for the residents to listen to. When EMT's come to transport a resident to the hospital they often drool over my front room set up. Hell they don't even know about the better stuff I keep in another room. I only take special people into the room with Khorns and mc30's, Fisher 400, Marantz 2500, Marantz 2325, and other equip. When I was younger I had kids and could not afford to have a nice stereo. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time. I know I don't have anywhere near the best stuff out there. But I do like my Klipsch Heritage speakers best. I know. I do ramble a lot. That's just the way I am.

Congratulations for joining the forum. I'll make an offer. My Top offer is 50 cents and I won't go any higher even if you cover shipping costs. Please don't take it personal. It's nothing you did. I just have a PERSONAL dislike for the beats brand. After what they did with MOG I hope they go through difficult financial times. Like "Belly Up". Personal opinion is that they Lied and tried to Mislead me. I have kept the emails to prove my opinion if needed. I suspect you will get better replies from different topics that that don't have anything to do with beats. And it's not your problem that I got up on the wrong side of the bed.

The easier stuff like wiggling things I'm reasonably comfortable with. Don't want to turn out like Thebes. Couldn't help myself on that one. Actually I think I might like to be like Thebes. But am wondering what it might cost for refurbish on the 2 mc30's and the Lafayette KT-600. Know it is not possible to get firm quote without sending them in. PM is good for guessing cost if anyone would rather tell me that way. I don't know, but it seems to me the Lafayette and mc-30's should blow away The Fisher 400. That has not been the case all the time though. I'm having some of the old stuff refurbished. Since this set up is keeper's I might as well think about getting them done also. While I still can. Dr. ordered early retirement. Not going hungry. Bills are being paid. So in that respect I'm doing pretty good. I've got a Pelican case for shipping stereo's. It's in Montana at present with a Marantz 2500. Next will be a 2325. Then I could ship the mc30's and the Lafayette KT-600.
  15. This is kinda like putting a large bowel of gourmet jelly beans in front of a kid and tell him he can have his favorite one. But only one.

Huh! Never did much under the hood work on stereos. So I should go into the bottom of the mc 30 to check resistance. But have no idea how to find R25, R28 etc. I do have multi meter though. somewhere I do have an assembly book for mc 30 kit.

"the controller" is a Lafayette KT-600. If I'm not mistaken, I believe you at one time stated you knew the guy that designed it. History. got them from my neighbor. Refused to even plug them in until they were serviced. They have not been rebuilt. Or at least I don't believe they were. Cost was $1,000 to have them gone through and some tubes replaced. Suggestions on who to have look at if I do send them in. Live in Roseburg Or. The business that I used to hand carry my gear in to be worked on is no longer in business. Seems we're all getting older and retiring.

    mc 30

my mc 30 started an intermittent sound. Every few songs it makes me think of what an arc welder would sound like hooked to the Khorns. Just the one for the right channel. Reversed speakers at controler. no help. Backed off on the bass. no help. Now I'm wondering if I should start swapping tubes from one side to the other. But willing to listen to any words of wisdom. Happy Holidays to each of you, whatever your Holiday is this time of year. Going to try another receiver. But I had no problem with the SS unit I was using prior.
  19. Bought La Scala's that have no Logo. They do have glue where the Logo's were. I wouldn't move them. Although I can understand the desire to have mirrored images.
  20. Don't let the wife catch you! You gotta sleep sometime...
  21. So Earl has long hair, carries a handbag and has a set of . Nope must not be Earl in the middle.
  22. I keep a case of each in the car. Have clipped the guard rail 3 times while sleeping and woke up doing 100mph on the freeway. I told the Dr I was going to have to do something or give up my license. Now I have backup meds also, Only suppose to use them for driving. At around $700 for a bottle of 30 I try not to use many of them.
  23. My neighbor talked me into buying his Macintosh mc 30's several years back. 1 grand for both and he threw in the Lafayette master controller. Spent another grand having everything gone through. Looking back I think he gave me a good deal for my 1st tube setup. Very clean, no rust or pitting.
