  1. Have lots of CD's. Well a few anyhow. The big question is should I go to Vinyl for the K Horn set up. I will soon have old Stereo Console that I believe is a Magnavox. That will go in the master bedroom. No where else to put it. It will be gone through and play Vinyl. Don't know if tube or not. Just know my Grandmother wants me to have it. Besides it looks like new. Well as usual for me, I started on one subject and rambled into another.
  2. Nasty Nasty! Be nice. Get more respect that way. I know it's an old post, but still.
  3. OK, got this one figured out with your help. I had hoped to keep it in the Forum site in personal area such as receint posts, but this will work. Thanks, John
  4. If I want to put a post that someone has started into my file, is there a way to do it without cluttering up the post with non contributing dialogue?
  5. Have the kit insructions with operating instructions for Lafayette KT 600 pre-amp, and Mac mc30. The Lafayette has spec's for the different old records that tells which setting to use for which record company and type of record. If anyone is interested. I will not part with the books, but will part with the info if someone needs it.
  6. I love the K Horns I Got. However I need to build a false wall for one of them. Should I build it to the height of the speaker, to the ceiling. How far from existing wall should I extend false wall. 4ft would be convient, don't think SHMBO will tolerate 6ft. Might be able to get away with 5ft. I can get 3/4 in MDF with veneer to match speaker, or I can get plywood with thin layer of MDF under veneer. Speakers are so purty I would like to match if I can. But also wonder if Sheet Rock like the real wall is made of would balance the sound better. Have thought of putting 3/4 in on wall to match false wall and speakers. Ok guys and gals, pick it apart, throw rocks, give me ideals or suggestions. All will be gratefully recieved.
  7. This looks Good! I struck out with Niles. They suggested I custom build a unit. But this will work for the K Horns I think. Keeping the volume under 100 watts not going to be a problem, just won't crank up the recievers. Thank you, and the others who have been patient and helpful with my questions. John
  8. SHMBO means "She Who Must Be Obeyed. I had to Goggle it the 1st time I seen it on this forum. She writes the checks for bills and I pay required share. Sometimes more when her progects get expensive. I refuse to request a nickle for my stereo addiction though. Less excuse for complaints that way.
  9. Monday night here in Oregon it was raining so hard some of my co-workers were offering to drive others home. 100ft from parking to building and gentleman on oncoming shift was soaked. Looked like someone turned the water hose on him. Not much summer here this year. Wish we could send some of this wet stuff to those who need it.
  10. I have about 10 different stereos (amps and recievers) that I would like to play often enough to keep in good working order. I would like to have switch that will connect 5 amps/receivers to the K Horns and another that will conect CD player to said amps/receivers. Two sets of these (total of 4 switches) should work well. Most powerful reciever will be 250 watt at 8 ohm. # 1; RCA connectors from CD player to switch and RCA connectors from that switch to amp/receivers. # 2; Speaker wire connector can be banana plugs, spades, regular wire connectors or most anything not too complicated. Less complicated is better for me.
  11. You guys have some Great looking landscape. The size of the ponds, the look of nature. I don't think I'll show these to SHMBO as I'm afraid she would want to take out 2 year old project and redo everything.
  12. I have to agree with your advice in most cases buying used equip. However after buying my mc30's and getting the preamp thrown in. Then spending the cost paid for equip in repairs, tubes etc. Then the tech said not to sale the mc30's for less then twice what I had in Mac's and preamp. Sometimes I get lucky. Then theres the Fisher 400 that cost me more to repair then I paid for it. Probably got more into it then I could get if I wanted to sell. Don't want to sell. SHMBO told me I never get rid of anything. Well I told her! I said "I still got you don't I!" Trust me, BAD MOVE.
  13. "Best" is in the eye of the beholder. I've known people that always said everything they had was the "Best," BS. That said, I do enjoy Mac mc30's with K Horns. I never thought I'd be able to have either, but sometimes luck happens. Still have some tweeking to do on the system though.
  14. Another thought might be to turn the Belles on their sides and then load with weight to see if problem resolves
  15. dtel Rocket launcher would be great! But I'd rather work for a living then be put in a cage. That said, I had an ugly 55 1st series chev pu, small block with 3/4 race cam etc, that had a Day Lighter spot light, 100 watt aircraft spot, and a 250 watt wide beam landing light. Toggle switches for each one and a continous duty starter solenoid activated by high beam circuit. When someone would not get out of the way on the Freeway I just turn em all on if it was day time. Never failed to clear the road. If some one was following with their brights on, there was another 250 watt landing light over the cab pointing backwards. Not as much fun as a rocket launcher, but was effective. Not much good for squirrels, but did work for Jack rabbits on private property. Oh, by the way. As I understand the ATF rules, Flame Throwers are legal! Not hard to build either.
  16. dtel, Just how big are those squirels in your area? Best squirel gun I shot was my daughter's 243. I guess the squirels here in Oregon must be smaller.
  17. Probably need to drill small hole at end of crack to stop the crack. Idealy the crack will extend to the hole and stop. At least that is what we did with metal before welding to keep the crack from running. I wish I could remember the liquid we used in high school for lamanating as it polished up good. Maybe an arts and craft store could help. Or Goggle? Try this site on Google. Repairing a Crack in Plexiglass

    for Fini

Daddy shark and Baby shark came on a capsized ship. Daddy shark said we'll circle them with just the tips of our fins out fo the water. After a while daddy shark said now we'll circle with our fins half way out of the water. Then he said we'll circle with our fins all the way out of the water. After a while, Daddy shark says now we'll eat them. Baby shark said, why didn't we just eat them in the first place? To which Daddy shark replied, They taste better if you scare the $h!t out of em 1st. [^o)]
  19. When in high school we used to build things of laminated plastic, then sand with 600 grit sand paper for clear finish. I have bought some much finer grit, 1500 grit to use on some badly oxidized head lights. I used the Meguires and it helped. Probably would have done it with much more time, they are pretty bad. Plan is to clean, use 600 grit, clean, use 1500 grit, clean, then finish with Meguires. Have to agree it would be best to test whatever you decide to use on something of little value 1st. What ever you do, be careful not to heat the plastic to melting point, gets ugly.
  20. Carl, I'm sorry about your mom. I was afraid that at her age this might happen when you told me about the hip. You and your family are still in my thoughts. I'm not very good with words but wish you and your family the best. John H.
  21. I reposted this, as it was last on end of string on Garage Sale. Don't let Jordan fool ya! He has an exellent system that leaves me drooling!! That said, I finally got the Khorns set up with the mc30s and they do sound nice. Not nice, but Great! 30 watts is more then enough for me. Still a little tweaking to do, need to firm up the false wall for one Khorn but it still works well. Foam pipe gaskets between Khorns and walls? Best sound I've had in that room ever. I have found an output on the pre-amp that will allow a sub to be hooked up to it. Have small sub that was used for home theater. Opinions? The young man who helped me with moving all the heavy furniture, and there was a lot, had never seen any tube equipment before. He was quite impressed, as was I. I called the Gentleman I got the Mac's from and invited him over for a listen. He said he would be over. Also said he has found some more Tube gear, Fisher Tuner, Fisher Attenuator that will make old FM Turners play in stereo, and another tube amp that is less wattage. Gotta look. Again, Opinions? New to me Fisher 400 should be out of the shop from tune-up in week or two. I flat refuse to rush this Tech. So it's been in the shop for a while. Not sure where I'll put it. I think this has gone beyond collecting and become an addiction. Looks like another trip to Calf. may be in the future. I'd like to set my cousin up with something she can "Hum to." 1970's era Marantz or Sansui reciever and a pair of speakers. That ought to let her hum to the music.
  22. Hook it up to the Cat. Right? [li]
  23. Thanks, dtel! SO dtel, when are you getting a make over???? That hat is hideous...LOL I kinda like the picture of the Rasta Monkey. Not near as well as Amy's though. I think she may be on to something, looking younger in each change of her pictures. You go Amy!
  24. How about safety glass, like used in sliding glass doors, or car windows?
