  1. Well Dean? Come on man! This is worse than a stripper that doesn't take her clothes off man, you got everyone waiting, now out with it! LOL -Jon
  2. Hey Guys, Haven't posted in a while, good to be back. Money has been tighter for me than with most folks on here (I see that by all your sigs..lol) But over time I have tried to put together what I can, as I can afford. Was curious what you all thought about my 6.1 setup... Mains- 1981 Cornwalls Front & Rear Center- Radia Z1 Rear Left & Right- JVC 3 way towers, 10 inch woofer, don't know what model. (waiting til I can afford Heritage rears) Receiver- Yamaha HTR-5650 6.1 Unit CD Player- Marantz CD-5500 Cassette- Denon Tape Deck Turntable- Realistic LAB Series, with a cool vintage soundcraftsmen preamp for phono eq/ tone-shaping TV- 27 inch Panasonic flat screen tube XBOX for DVD's and games, and PS2 SUBS- (here's the fun part..lol) 2 12inch Pioneers in homemade/custom designed line-tunnel cab tuned to 30 hertz, in corner on right side. Cerwin-Vega B36MF Folded Horn 18 inch (really wallops, but not as deep as I had hoped) Nice for stand up bass though, I have it on the front wall, left side- doesn't sound boomy that way. The subs are powered by 3 Yamaha amps, one for each driver. Both subs are being eq'ed with a Behringer 5-way parametric equalizer to compensate for room gain, giving smooth response to around 30-35 hertz, and filtering subsonics for protection. I've wanted to upgrade the rears, but just can't afford it yet. I'm 23 years old, and just don't have enough income yet to do much more. I was curious what you guys thought. So far I've been pretty happy, able to get great impact with 4 full range speakers and 3 subs. And the new Diana Krall DTS 5.1 Disc I got sounds great! -Jon
  3. Hey Guys, Yep, They're Electro-Music, which wasn't affiliated with E-V at all. I'm an organ nut so I love these things. I've never seen this model before though. The larger organs (B-3, C-3) used 9 pin connections, where as the smaller ones used 11 pins. This has a 11, so that would put it in M-3 territory. This is one of their smaller cabs, looks like solid state era. Doesn't have the rotating horn on top, instead they use two stationary speakers. It might use a tremolo circuit to alternate the sound between those two top speakers to emulate a turning horn? It has a woofer with the turning rotor below it. It would be okay for cheaper organs, but it's not a home speaker, the circuitry is proprietary for organs. -Jon
  4. Hey Dylan, How much are you looking for to get for your Khorns? -Jon ---------------- On 12/28/2004 6:35:24 PM Dylanl wrote: Sorry, Pittsburgh, PA. ----------------
  5. As a fellow Cornwall owner, may I say welcome! I have one pair and am hoping to get a 2nd after the busy-ness of the holidays is over. Another album I'd recommend is Eva Cassidy's "Songbird", she has a great voice, well recorded, beautiful music. Some songs are just her and her guitar, others have the band, blues, gospel, folk. Once you hear it you'll be hooked. -Jon
  6. Hey Michael, You are correct, I don't have access to woodworking tools, lol. I would definetly be interested in taking you up on the board offer. I can take care of the fabric, that's no problem. I don't mind waiting, I'm in no hurry, the speakers are here to stay. I'm not at home at the momemnt, but I'll measure the broken board, and give you all the distances you need. I suspect they'd be the same as your 74s but I'll check anyway. Whatever it costs, let me know. Thanks a lot man! Jon
  7. Hey Guys, Is there something wrong? I don't see any pictures in this entire thread. What's up? Do I have something wrong with my system? -Jon
  8. Hey Fini, Thanks for the Grill-A-Corn picture, helps lighten things up. I appreciate the help from everyone. Unfortunately I haven't been able to do anything yet, just haven't had the time! So right now I have one on, one off, suppose I oughta just take the other one off so they're the same but I haven't, I'm worried the cat'll scratch the woofer (she's only 6 months old and crazy as a loon). Right now I slide a empty computer case in front of the uncovered speaker when I'm not around so she can't get at it. I've thought of maybe doing a tan/cane grille for them if I can find it? I've never actually seen her scratch at the naked woofer, just taking precautions, because it only takes one time! LOL. Then I'd be out $129. I love the speakers, and I love the cat, so I just have to make things work. On another note, I have a heathkit tube integrated amp that I've had for years, just needs to be recapped, and a buddy of mine is willing to do it so I should be able to eventually hear them with tube for the first time, it has 2 EL-84s per side/ around 12-15 watts per channel. Plenty really. Should be nice -Jon Jon
  9. Hello, While looking on eBay I came across a set of Heresys that the owner clearly didn't realize where designer series, but the sticker on the back confirms- HD-BR (HDBRBuilder would be proud...lol). Anyway, the guy put his own velcro right on the front of the speaker! Then put on some cheap foam grilles. Yuk. Anyhoo, I figured you guys would be interested. I'm sure you could lift the velcro if you knew what you were doing. Seems to be a decent stain on them, as they were the raw unfinished when they were sold. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5724600738&rd=1 -Jon
  10. Hey Guys, It's been a while since I've posted - I moved into an apartment in Shawnee and don't have internet access there, I'm posting from my parent's place. Anyway, I'm looking for a grille for one of my 1981 Cornwalls. The velcro was bad and it fell off and was laying face down on the floor and I stepped on it. The lights were out and I was coming in with my big clunky boots and stepped right on the masonite and before I knew it *CRUNCH* *cringes*. It's wrecked man, even bent up the poor Klipsch logo So I have one speaker open and one grilled. They're black speakers with black grilles. If I can find one black grille that would be awesome, otherwise if it's a different color I'd have to replace them both. I lvoe the speakers, use them every day! I had thought of doing a lighter (cream/tan/beige type thing) so I dunno. Anyone know where to get grilles? The fabric has a hole in it at one point (cat) so I really need the whole thing, masonite and fabric. Any help anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks! -Jon
  11. Hey Marvel, Those are some cool looking Yamaha cabs. I saw a similar looking set of those in a pawn shop when I was down in Florida, but they looked older. Don't see them around much. What do they sound like? -Jon
  12. Could be filter capacitors in the amp going bad, but then I would think that it would do it in both speakers. What equipment are you using it with? Does it do it with all sources? -Jon
  13. Hey Jim! How's it going? Are you considering building speakers? What model? Cornwalls? Hope all is well for you. -Jon
  14. I agree, Hwatkins. I'm happy with them the way they are, I was just curious what the other ones would do. So I think I won't mess with a good thing. I believe that is the right tact - I also think there may be some crossover differences specific to the different tweeters. A bag of worms is possible. ----------------
  15. Anybody know the DTS website? I've tried a few and can't find it. -Jon Never mind, just found it- dtsonline.com
  16. Thanks Jim! As I think about it more, I can't help but think that money could be better spent elsewhere. Frzninvt is probably right- would I really gain anything? Jon
  17. Hey Mike, I had been running my system with phantom center when I got my Cornwalls but found that I didn't get as nice of a center image as when I had a separate center. It allows the mains (and daialogue) to be clearer since they have their own discrete speaker (and more importantly location) to come from. Even though it's not a matching center to the Corns, my Radia is still MUCH better than no center at all. Good luck, Jon
  18. Jerohm, yes they are, in fact I had a bid on them. What do you guys think they're worth? I don't want to overpay. I want them for my '81 Cornwalls which have the ceramic magnet ones. I wanted to switch to Alnico- use Paul's original design for it. Would those work fine with the stock type B crossover that's in them now? -Jon
  19. Okay, thanks Shock-Late, I'll keep my ears open for you. Jon
  20. Boomer, those are nice looking stands, I like them alot. That's a cool room! The Castrol GTX shirt really makes it. Jim, you once again proved what a quality person you are. Thanks for keeping your eyes out for me. It its through your generosity that I have Klipsch speakers to begin with. The only thing I worry about with a Heresy center is the issue of magnetic shielding. My TV (new panasonic 27 inch Flat screen CRT) is very sensitive to magnets- I have a Radia ribbon bookshelf on it now, and I had to turn it upside down because it would pull the color if I had it right side up. I tried turning the set off and back on so it would degauss, but to no avail- it's just too much magnetism for it. So a true center with magnetic shielding is required. I'll post pics soon, have to get the film developed- keep forgetting when I make runs into town. Thanks to everyone for your tips and suggestions, they're all very much appreciated. I got my car the other day, a 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis 2 door- it's in real good shape, for $750. Can't beat it. 132,000 miles, but seems to run fine, engine and trans are solid, body's real good. White with blue interior and blue vinyl roof. -Jon
  21. Anyone? I'm looking for Alnico K-77s. I suppose EV T-35s would work as long as they're the right impedance. Klipsch used 8 ohms, right?
  22. I just happened upon a Realistic LAB-420 Turntable while browsing yard sales- picked it up for a cool $20. Has a Shure R1000 EDT cartridge in it, which I've never seen before. Has a clear plastic cover that swings down over the needle while not in use. I haven't really used it much though, just tested it quick to make sure it works. The needle looks a little funky, might be damaged. I haven't been able to use it to much since I just upgraded to a Yamaha Digital receiver which lacks phono input, so I'll have to get a phono preamp first. Might need to replace needle. -Jon
  23. Poor GUy, MAN I've been mad already but he just had a whole DAY of mad...LOL quite funny though, Thanks -Jon
  24. Thanks Damon for an awesome link! That was hilarious, showed my Dad, he liked it. -Jon
  25. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Cornwalls would be nice as rears, but just too big and too expensive. I wouldn't have room for a second set. Probably Heresys look best at this point. Unfortunately this is going to have to go on hold for a bit as I've decided I need to put the money into a car instead- 86 Mercury Grand Marquis 2 door- saw it in the paper for $750, drove it and it runs like a champ. My '79 Olds has been getting tempermental lately. I'll keep in touch, Jon
