  1. Congratulations. Welcome to the club.
  2. A lot of reading forum posts and reviews. I started with Crites CT-125 tweeters and ALK Universal crossovers. When I decided to go further I wanted to stay with ALK since I was familiar with his crossovers and he was great to deal with. I learned of Dave's Eliptrac400 (2" midrange Horn) and ContracT (1" tweeter Horn) on Al's website and Al also sells the B&C compression drivers.
  3. VERY NICE AS WELL. I guess you are still liking the set up? Thanks. Yes I am. I've had my Khorns since the late 80's and wanted a project. They're good to go for another 30-years.
  4. I did most of them. I recently upgraded pre & main amps to Parasound JC2 & Pass Labs X150.5 as well. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/159587-klipschorn-mods/?hl=%2Bklipschorn+%2Bmods
  5. Very interested in your project. I modded my KHorns last summer and with some of the same parts you are using. Looking forward to your impressions and yes, we love pictures.
  6. WOW! Where were you about six months ago? That's a great deal, you shouldn't have any trouble selling them.
  7. Good for you. I'm always happy when I see our hobby being passed on to new generations.
  8. Great story. I'm glad it had a happy ending even though it took so long to get your cabs back. I think you and your wife are to be commended in the way you handled the situation.
  9. Yea but WHEN will I be able to buy a pair? I believe USSPEAKER has them in stock for about 7 bills a pair. Parts Express also has them at the same price with free shipping and free life-time tech support. Yea except they don't REALLY have them. And its OK cuz I'm in no rush, B and C will get their production back up I presume. I got mine from ALK earlier this year. He is an authorized dealer.

  11. Congratulations on the posts and thanks for the story. Keep it coming.
  12. They are in a big great room with 25' high cathedral ceiling so the watts are needed.
  13. What kind of amp and power driving these? The preamp is a Yamaha CX-1000 and the main amp is a Yamaha B-6.
  14. It does. This is a picture of the woofer horn motorboard before I installed the new 15" driver. It fires through the slot and is divided vertically by the divider bar. Then it continues through the folded horn and exits through the side grilles as you mentioned. I read a review that said if the horn was straight, it would be 8' long.
  15. Thanks Dave. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in your work is very impressive. :emotion-21: on Dave's work. ALKs networks too. Mancave Man, any comments on what changes the new woofer made? I agree, Dave & Al both do impressive work. The bass did improve but it is very subtle. I don't know how much is from the driver and how much from the ES-400 network.
  16. Thanks Dave. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in your work is very impressive.
  17. It's been a while since I've heard them stock. I've been running them with Al's Universals and Bob's CT-125;s for a couple of years. The sound quality improved with those mods but I like to crank it up periodically and the annoying squawker ear fatigue was still there. With the new mods, the soundstage imaging is very precise and clear and that doesn't change with volume increase. The ear fatigue is gone as well.
  18. After years of following mod threads on this forum I finally decided on the mods for my 1989 Klipschorns. They are as follows: From Dave: Elitrac-400 & ContracT horns. New side by side motorboard with black cloth. From Al: B&C DCM-50 & DE120 compression drivers and ES400 & ES5800 extreme slope networks. From Bob: CW1526C cast frame 15" woofer horn driver. I'm very pleased with the results. The icing on the cake for me, was my wife commenting on how good they sounded.
  19. Just curious, why do you not want to use the Crites cast frame woofer?
  20. Thanks for the reply. I'm planning on modding my KHorns with Dave's Eliptrac 400 and was wondering about the side by side placement of the squawkers & tweeters. So you didn't notice any difference?
