  1. You can't add a sub for, pardon the pun, sub $50. So 30-32Hz so much higher than 25Hz. How long do you think it will take to build the boxes? A Saturday afternoon or a couple of evenings and you can try it. I would rush to try this if I weren't already happy with my LS the way they are. Still, this summer it's going to happen.
  2. There's a version II, sequel on there too. It is even better.
  3. Shelby Lynne is an anomaly. You don't really know where she fits in, but she is really good.
  4. I've had some really bad heat shrink from Radio Shack. I usually get mine from a local electronics supply house here in town (yup, we have one and they are really nice folks). Most of what I get is polyolefin tubing, which works well for what I use it on. I have a bunch of the clear that I got to put on connectors, so I could have labels underneath. I print our my info on a laser printer, use a glue stick to put it on the connector and then put the clear hs over it. Still readable and stays put. It is cheaper than buying a labeler just for wiring and cables.
  5. Makes sense that the report was from Darwin...
  6. Once my heart rate drops back down, I think I'll be able to go to sleep.
  7. That makes the copy of Sentimental Hygiene that much more special, Gary. It is almost mint, and I really was surprised when you included it in the package you sent.I used to play in a group in Memphis with Rob Jungklas, who makes me think of WZ. He had some bad direction, but is a very prolific writer. Bruce
  8. I'm not a special tube nazi either! Whatever floats yer boat and sounds good to you is what it is all about. I have SET, PP and SS in the house, and it all osunds good. Yeah, the horns don't need a lot, although some do use a lot of watts. I think they are mostly deaf, though, and that explains a lot of it. []I have friends who live in Tasmania, moved over in the early '80s. They love it over there. Bruce
  9. The bass on mine actually improved when I moved them out of the corners. Imaging also improved. That's why you need to try different things in your own room (I'm talking speaker placement... [*-)] ) Everyone's room is different. Bruce
  10. If you like it, but don't like your cabinets to be so tall, you can do the following: Enclose the back of the top section that houses the mid horn and tweeter. Open up the top of the doghouse, to give you about the same internal volume as the box underneath. A small amount of acoustic fill goes in either design. If you don't like the second mod after you've lived with it, you can seal back up the top of the doghouse and it still won't be visible from the outside.
  11. Yes... a ten inch highbox under the LS with two 4" dia., 7" long ports can get you close to flat response to 32Hz. Obviously, it is totally reversible since your LS sits on top of the box. If you don't like it you just remove it.Bruce
  12. fini, If you get some low temp heat shrink, you can very likely use a hair dryer. I use a heat gun set on low, and that has always worked well. Are you covering connections/splices or longer lengths? Most heat shrink is rather stiff once it shrinks. Bruce
  13. If I hadn't picked up the dvd of the Transformers for $2, I doubt I would have liked it as much. Of course... if I must add in the cost to fly to China, the cost is higher.
  14. I've wanted to start a section called "Dennis sez", but it probably wouldn't be right. [:#] However, he did say, "The taper rate of a LaScala is 100hz,The mouth area is good for 125hz. Below this it is a big woofer in a small sealed box." My take, would be to maintain the initial flare rate and leave the back width of the cabinet the same. Make the front wider, to accomodate the larger mid horn you have described. You have two benefits: One, you can install the wider mid horn in the same cabinet, and Two, you increase the horn mouth size, even if only by a small amount. Bruce
  15. He powers those with some 8-10 watt amps, and from those who have heard them, they are awesome. They are a clone, of sorts, of the Klipschorn Jubilee (about as close as you can get without Klipsch giving you a set of plans), which quite a few on here have purchased. They aren't in the regular lineup, but are a part of the cinema line of speakers from Klipsch. The cost is somewhere arount $7K a pair. Bruce
  16. If your LS have the labels, they will tell you what the original finish was on the cabinets. The birch LS cabs came in raw (no finish applied) and with a laquer finish. Most who got them in raw form, then applied their own finish (boiled linseed oil being the most common. It penetrates the woold, and self catalyzes, sealing the wood, but does tend to yellow with age). Some used paint or laquer, while some may have had a polyurethane put on them. The poly is pretty much a man made version of the linseed oil with the benefit of not yellowing. Other oils provide similar finishes, each with thier own pluses and minuses. Bruce
  17. Hmmm... it isn't chicken wire, it is called hardware cloth. Usually comes in around 1/4 inch squares, but can be had larger or smaller. Many people used this along with regular screen on the bottom half of their screen doors, so the finer wire mesh wouldn't get torn. Those cabinets will need some work, but there are lots of options. The interior of the cabs looks good. Bruce
  18. You can add to that the high levels of hormones that seem to be attributed to birth control pills, antibiotic levels and animal growth hormones. Some people think that aspertame is ok, too. Plus, we have high fructose corn syrup in almost everything. We are killing ourselves.
  19. This is why an upgrade of some HIIs to HIIIs would be such a great deal. You end up with all the parts to make the T-400. ALl you have to do is build the cabs and you have another nice set of speakers.I have a friend who has a pair of the Tangents that I am going to get measurements from, but just haven't had the time. Bruce
  20. Welcome to the forumDo you have the pdf of the dimensions that we have posted here before? They are extremely accurate for the original LS with 3/4 inch ply. Bruce
  21. I've done that on other projects, and Dean is right....[8-)]
  22. I'm a little puzzled... could you post a pic of the metled horn? Are these KG 3.2 speakers? They weren't introduced until 1992, but it's close enough to 20 years for me. And welcome to the forum, btw.
  23. I viewed Sweeney Todd this weekend.... Incredible film, but certainly not for the faint of heart.
  24. Cool! There's some repetition, and there are multiple pages for some of the horns ( like the metric version of the LS which floats around on two images ). Still nice.
  25. Were you planning on sleeping tonight? [:|]
