  1. Segovia played more notes in one song than I have played in my life. [:'(]
  2. Not munchin', but just finished my bottle of Glenfiddich.
  3. Indeed, Segovia was a master. Garcia would have been a lot better if he could have kept the needle out of his arm.
  4. I will add Phil Keaggy to the list. And for someone who does mostly acoustic music I would put Doyle Dykes pretty far up the list. Chet Atkins did some things that no one else has done either.
  5. By the time he sands it smooth it will be veneer...
  6. So, Mike... can you tell us whether or not you like the new gear?
  7. Aawwww!, I know right where that is. I've even been by their store. It's about 15 minutes from where I go to church. Hey Mark, Did you get to that concert in Chattanooga? I ended up not being able to go. Bruce
  8. These guys are on the east coast, but have nice stuff. I used their images for the LaScala renderings I did. http://www.certainlywood.com/index.htm Bruce
  9. ditto on the Altec or JBL gear. Hard to beat if you can get it cheap enough. My JBLs I bought new. I think that with inflation, they would run about the same as a new pair of Heresys.
  10. Heck we had 20 inches here and my college and most of the High Schools in NJ were OPEN My campus wasn't even fully lowed either! there was that semi plowed where it turns to ice and becomes even more dangerous to walk on. People down here are PARANOID about snow! But, when you normally don't have any, a little bit can be dangerous for most drivers. The last BIG snow was '93, or maybe even the snowstorm in Jan. of 88. They had 12-14 inches on the mountains around here and folks literally couldn't get out for days.
  11. The college where I work is on top of Lookout Mtn. Georgia, almost the highest point (okay, it isn't that high), and got about two to three inches. Where I live in the valley, we got almost zero. Up in the 40s today, but they closed the school for the day. I was already there before I knew they had closed. Most of the city and county schools around here closed as well. After growing up in Illinois and living in Wisconsin for a few years, this sure seemed pretty silly. Bruce
  12. Yo, Griff, Where you been? I haven't seen you around here in quite a while. How's the back doing for you? Bruce
  13. We have a pretty good used CD/DVD store here in Chattanooga. It's been here for years. I mostly just go through the bins to see people I know of already or something that I just want to try. Most of the CDs run around $7-8, so you aren't out much and you can return them if you don't like them. Just picked up all acoustic album by Mike Marshall and Chris Thile. All mandolin and mandocello duets. It is smokin' good stuff. Staying in the player for now. From Charlie Parker to JSBach, they run the gamut. Pretty good stuff, but I am not shopping too often. Bruce
  14. Isn't that what work is for? My wife did that, but for her, objective truth had to do with our Faith. Dean, how do you find the time to do all the crossover design and work? I am too beat when I get home at night. Bruce
  15. That's okay Bob. There have been a lot of them in our area lately too. Of course, I live about a block from the infamous crematory, where the operator left over three hundred bodies laying around. Pretty strange. The crematory is gone and they are now turning the property into a memorial park. Bruce
  16. H2G, I used the Google Language tools. You can get there from the main google.com page. I don't know what Gil used. Bruce
  17. Shawn, You can get a 60 degee verticle dispersion, but the mouth of the horn has to be baffled. I think another two to three inches top and bottom makes it work. That would make the horn approx. 8 inches high. The JBL lit. doesn't show them baffled, but mentions it in the dispersion figures. I could send you the original Smith article if you want. He made the vanes different than what most do, and I have Mr. Widget's drawings as well. Maybe this summer. The past year has been a bit of a blur. Bruce
  18. Shawn, Do the highs drop off on the Smith Horns? I know you wouldn't have the beaminess with them, but you would probably have to make your own. JBL recommends a low freq. crossover of around 800Hz, but the horn itself has about a 375Hz cutoff. Smith designed it for a 1 inch driver, at least in the article from Audio Engineering (Jan. 1951) I have. I love the look, compared to the larger Altec horns. Bruce
  19. Dennis, How close is the BMS 4540ND to the 2407? A bit less expensive for sure. Bruce
  20. I will have to admit that I would not want to cut those up. They look too nice. I would be more inclined to build a set of bottom cabinets and add the 511s on top. Twelve pieces of wood for each cabinet -- thirteen if you make a removable speaker mounting board. Bruce
  21. You're talkin' 50+ pieces for each cabinet with compound angles on many of those pieces. Not for the faint of heart. Bruce
  22. Bonjour Pierre, Beaucoup miss dans les réflecteurs, et obtiennent à un peu le rendement de fréquence plus élevée. En d'autres termes, au lieu de 400 hertz, ils peuvent se lever à 500 ou 600 hertz. Bruce ============== Hello Pierre, Many put in the reflectors, and get a bit higher frequency output. In other words, instead of 400 Hz, they may get up to 500 or 600 Hz. Bruce
  23. Rick, I heard a reporter on NPR even mention the movie and what she thought they looked like. The studio announcer almost choked. [] Bruce
  24. If you use the 7 inch long ports (as opposed to the initial 10 in), the bass will be a bit tighter, but still go lower that the stock LS. IOW, not get tubby, flabby, etc. Just make a box that is the same dimensions as the LS width and depth, 10 inches high (outside) and add the ports. Put some insulation inside and try it. Bruce
