  1. However, it is all a give and take. That's what makes the relationship work. I was looking at a pair of MC30s online and my wife came over to have a look. She thinks they are very nice looking amps. Ooooh! She likes the Dynaco with the tubes glowing. Someday ... but I'm working on building cornerhorns now. That will be a harder sell than the amps. Marvel
  2. Welcome to the forum. It is possible to repair the tear yourself, and not replace the passive. Do you think you would be able to glue a patch over the tear? Since it is a passive, the excursion of the cone is only due to the active woofers moving in the cabinet. I don't believe you fixing it would make a differnce in the sound. Otherwise, you could contact Klipsch for more information. Marvel
  3. Hope he hasn't hurt himself getting them upstairs. Marvel
  4. Carl, When my son gave me my Heresy IIs (black lacquer) I didn't have serial numbers on them. The IIs had paper tags instead of having the number stamped along the back edge. The paper labels were gone. I opened up those cabinets (removed woofer from front) and found the dated inspection stickers inside. Considering how they cranked out the Heresys, I figured those dates were close enough. Perhaps you will find a date on something inside. Marvel
  5. I don't think the Quicksilvers have balanced inputs, so probably just the unbalanced RCAs. I understand what Mark and Craig are saying. The inputs to the SF go straight to the tape outs, so you end up with the source (tube tuner) and the pc soundcard being on the actual input of the SF. The 10k ohm soundcard in parallel with the tube tuner messes with the impedance the Sunfire sees. Marvel
  6. I'm not trying to pick on anyone, but when I asked Joe Curcio about the 10 ohm resistors that he doesn't include in his bias upgrade, he said he could provide them for $3.50 each and put them in with a part that was left out. I ordered them myself for $.40 each. Since he was paying the second shipping anyway, it seemed a bit high to me. SOme of the other parts from him were similarly marked up. But the same thing probaby applies-- he wouldn't maintain a large inventory. Marvel
  7. Michael, I was in Indy a couple of weeks ago and was thinking of you. Had my youngest down at the University of Indianapolis for music auditions. It isn't his first choice, but is still on the list (Valparaiso is first). Wabted to find you but we just didn't have time. Marvel
  8. You only need to move them to get them where you need them, unless you are going to refinish them. They aren't pets. Is she taking them for a walk or what? Marvel
  9. I think that picture looks a lot like an old cheap wire LP rack/holder. Jeff -- did you ever get a price on those coppoer top plates? Marvel
  10. This might help you out: Altec 9844 Marvel
  11. You mean like Parts Express has the K2 for $1399?
  12. D-MAN and I discussed that. Most electronic crossovers only have a 24db/octave slope though. The ESNs smoke that, so each driver really does its own range. I thought you could at least use them to get a more precise idea of the crossover point you wanted. I will be using one to try some cabs (soon I hope) Marvel
  13. yaffstone, What Hallicrafters model do you have? I have an SX-62 sitting in my barn. It needs a lot of work, which it won't get from me. There is more iron in there than most cars these days. Marvel
  14. D-MAN has stated that his design does the horizontal folds (ala Jubilee), and he is using an ESN from Al K. that crosses at 600Hz. His is still a three way though, due to the drivers he was using. Single 15".woofer (K33). However, it is still a corner horn. The B&C DE85 is supposed to cross at 1k. The DE750 can cross at 800Hz, although rated 500-18k. It does cost $289 from Parts Express. Marvel
  15. Methinks Mr. Johnston doesn't really quite get it. ... even though we don't really know what is going on, I think Michael has been honest enough with us so that type of harangueing doesn't do much good. Of course, he could be lieing to us, but I don't think so. It would be of absolutely no use to him. It's easier to honest with us than with a neighbor or co-worker. Hang in there and keep up the fight Michael.
  16. ---------------- ... I guess because of the 7591 tubes verses the EL84s in the Dynaco. ---------------- The ST-70 has EL34 output tubes, not EL84 tubes. Glad you like the Scott. I love it when folks get something and like it. Marvel

  18. I thought it was: "Nothing veneered, nothing grained!" Marvel
  19. I found his site after I had already ordered my boards from Curcio Audio. Someone else who is coming up with an ST70 board is Shannon at diytube.com. Marvel
  20. Other than the obvious refoaming the woofers, they look GREAT! Very nice pair of speaks. What are you asking for them? I didn't see before that you said what you wanted for them. Marvel
  21. I find it funny how the JBL forum has folks lamenting the demise of the classic JBL products. Sounds like the Klipsch forum lamenting the lack of emphasis on the Heritage speakers. Marvel
  22. Those would be awesome. It is really too bad that so many companies switched to foam surrounds on their woofers. My 4311s have a cloth sirround that is treated with some kind of rubberish material. Still in very good shape after 30+ years. Do you know what model compression driver those use? Marvel
  23. Gary, Didn't yours also not have the Altec woofer in them when you got them? On a short side trip... In the early '70s I played acoustic guitar and bass for a brother sister duo. We played a small college in Ohio, where their venue was one half of a gymnasium. The only speaker for their PA system was a VOTT similar to the 19. It was the best PA any school had for us. Marvel
  24. Chris, Yes. Many who have built the LaScala cabinets have put in a brace in the mouth of the horn to keep the sides from vibrating. Perhaps Dean will explaine his false corners he built for his KHorns or post the link to the thread where he described them. Can you explain how you did the compound angles on the internal parts? Marvel
  25. Great pics. Up in northern Wisconsin, in the winter they drive trucks across Lake Superior to deliver goods to one of the islands. Pretty wierd seeing a semi out on the lake. Marvel
