  1. http://www.avsforum.com/forum/209-audio-gear/2550025-fs-diy-stereo-integrity-hst18-s-peavey-amp.html Solid setup for someone who wants some subs.
  2. You're not kidding. One of the drivers got "happy" with the X5M and nearly flipped it. The instructor said privately to me that he hadn't seen a X5M on two wheels on the road course ever before. "Standing on the brakes" meant different levels to different drivers.
  3. Yeah the two girls in the group (4 people total - me, a buddy, two girls we'd never seen before) loved the X5M. Complete overkill for their soccer mom purposes and they were truly afraid of driving it. I'm a truck guy so I'd love a Shelby F150 - same price as the X5M - roughly $100,000. For that kind of money, I could get something cool to drive and put the rest into audio, lol. I've just got too many hobbies. I'm sure no one else has too many hobbies. /s
  4. We were on BMW's own road course test track. It's 2 miles long, but they had half of the course blocked off (normal for the beginner's course). The instructor we had races in lower level F1 circuits. He does driver training for FBI as well. Very knowledgeable, but approachable and kind guy. EDIT - my instructor takes a 16 person group over to the Nurbringring every year and it was great to hear his experiences on that infamous course. He was the first person I ever met to have driven it...and driven it countless times.
  5. I was able to experience the BMW Performance Driving school this morning and it was awesome. I drove a M3 sedan, a Z4, 335, and a X5M. I daily drive a full size F150, so I felt most comfortable in the X5M hands down. 550hp/567tq was definitely fun too. Getting to hammer on these vehicles on the road course test track as fast as I felt comfortable with was an experience I won't soon forget. After taking a regular X5 through the off-road obstacles, a professional driver took me on a lap in a M5 and showed what that car is capable of. For a regular joe like me who's friends don't have any awesome cars, this was great. Anyone else have any test track stories or experiences?
  6. Thanks for the input everyone. It was appraised for $500 by a local shop - then I heard him tell someone else he could sell in for $900. There's a few more shops I could take it by as well if I wanted. The reason I like that Fender Super Champ x2 is it's a 15W tube amp with decent settings on the amp itself. Plus, it has Fender FUSE which is kinda like a DSP software which can add a lot of different settings if need be. Brand new it's $380. I've been perusing Craigslist and Reverb for used as well. I'm not in any hurry so I can wait for a good deal.
  7. My grandmother recently gave me a guitar as I enjoy music and my sister avoids music like the plague. I had it appraised and it's a National Guitar - a 1953 New Yorker Acoustic Electric. I'm just learning to play guitar, but have played the piano for 18 years of my 28 year life so I at least have a basic understanding of chords, progressions, etc. I mainly am looking for an amp to sound good in the country and blues genre. The amp will be used at home. From what I've been told, I should try to get a tube amp to match with the guitar if possible. Budget - pretty solid at $400. After all, I'm looking for an entry level amp to enjoy, not to gig with. My frontrunner is the Fender Super champ X2. Lemme know what yall think.
  8. From the looks of it, the XPA-1 would drive your two SI18s. So it's an option. Personally, I'd go elsewhere on the main merit you can get more watts for your money. The XPA-1 is $1050. The EP4000 which has almost double the RMS watts is $330 with free shipping on most sites. The iNuke 6000 is $350 and from what I remember it's 2x1800 watts RMS. But don't quote me on that number. (Obviously assuming you have the electrical outlet capable to sustain the output). Beyond Behringer there are other more powerful amps for less than $1000 - something to consider if you are planning on adding any more 18s in the future. Will the subwoofer amp be in the same room as you? If so, a pro amp may have too much fan noise depending on listening levels. Just my .02
  9. What 18s are you trying to drive? Some are more power hungry than others.
  10. I love my EP4000. Running it bridged puts out 1900 watts RMS verified. I'll probably get an iNuke 6000 next.
  11. Is that the stock size for the 893s or are you making towers out of them? Either way - looking forward to your listening impressions! The center turned out great.
  12. I don't think I'll be able to go back to a regular sized TV again. I love this projector. 55" TV for comparison to 120" screen.
  13. I personally thought UFC 200 was a dud. 199 was much better.
  14. I have a really hard time believing that....The Lab12 just isn't a great driver and I'm not sure there is any horn out there that would provide enough gain to let it keep up with the B&C 21SW152 - even if the B&C were in a sealed cabinet. Frequency response is totally the wrong plot for understanding why that is the case. I also think it's important to look at performance versus cabinet volume. Physics dictates that low frequencies need a longer horn - and that's why Klipsch doesn't market a horn sub to the home audio market. They are selling subs that are the size people want in their home. For cinema Klipsch has the 1802HLS - that would be the sub to use in the home if you want a Klipsch branded horn loaded cabinet. Why are we always subjected to these crayon drawings on graph paper for the Fitzidiot designs? Every time I see a measurement taken with industry standard software and equipment, the response plots look totally different. Btw, it looks like there is a new big boy on the market.... http://www.data-bass.com/data?page=system&id=131 Anybody know anything about this sub? Josh said he'll post some info later about the new big boy. Don't know when that'll be, but it should be interesting nonetheless.

    Ford EcoBoost

I'm surprised your F150 Ecoboost did poorly on the highway with a 3k boat. What rear end did you have? I've loaded my 5200lb utility trailer up to the brim and had no problems at interstate speed. MPGs? lol The comparable diesel motor for the ecoboost is Ram's ecodiesel. I looked/drove them before I purchased my Ecoboost. They were an absolute dog in acceleration regardless of rear end, but got better mpgs. I went with the extra 120hp in spite of lower mpgs.
  16. My room is 15Wx20Lx10H. Speakers and screen on the 20ft wall. Converted garage - 3 sides brick and one vinyl siding wall (previous owner did it).
  17. Well looks like I just hopped on a post. My apologies. FuzzyDog is in Charleston, South Carolina. But that's a solid place to visit too!
  18. Where is that Greenville, South Carolina. This bar, The Cigar Boxx, often is credited as having the most variety in SC...but The Cigar Boxx gets outclassed by a place in Charleston - honestly don't know which place it is, but Husk may be a great contender.
  19. I've always wanted to go there and heard great things about it - does Husk live up to the hype?
  20. This is where I hang out in my neck of the woods. He always has Pappy of various sorts or just about any scotch. Some definitely out of my price range...for now, but hopefully not forever.
  21. This is gonna be a rambling, but maybe it'll be useful to someone out there. I had been wanting to upgrade my 55" TV in size since I now sit further away from it. I was trying to get to a 4k TV...but had some things being prohibitive - HDR vs. DV (and the Vizio P series being the only TV that does both); I wanted at least a 70", but more like a 75" TV and would have to pay a premium to get over the current 65" 4k TV sweet spot; lack of current 4k titles; my receiver isn't 4k compatible; don't have UHD player. To me it came down to this - what would be more impressive for movie watching and big time sports events - a 70 or 75 inch 4k TV or a 120" projector? Ultimately I decided to get a projector and 120" screen. Thanks to this forum and AVS (and projectorcentral) I was able to answer most of the regular questions to determine what I should buy. The biggest factor was that my room has ambient lighting - so when I heard the Epson 3500 described as a "light cannon" by multiple sources, I knew it was the one for me. The throw distance can be anywhere from 12.5 feet to 16 feet. The room is a dedicated man cave, but not free from ambient lighting. 2 out of 3 windows have black out curtains. 3 has regular blinds. Viewing distance will be between 9 and 10 feet. Screen size is 120" I can't wait for projector and screen to arrive!

    Ford EcoBoost

I have a F150 Ecoboost. I put a tuner on it and love it. My truck is rated 14 city and 19 highway. So long as I don't get crazy with the gas pedal, I can hit those ratings no problem...and that's with about 300 extra pounds consistently on the truck.
  23. I will see your RIDICULOUS and raise you one more RIDICULOUS as to why that ball movement should be a penalty in the first place. The purpose of a rule is to give everyone a level playing field and to make sure a player can't gain competitive advantage so if the ball rolls a half turn, or moves a half inch, then yeah, I can see that. But for a ball to stay in place and shimmy? RIDICULOUS. No, it's not ridiculous. Those of you who are calling this ridiculous apparently don't play golf, or if you do, don't fully follow the RULES. Golf's rules are very specific, and have been honed over many decades. My dad taught me to play golf when I was a very young man over 50 years ago, and the absolutely most important lesson he impressed upon me then and for many years after, is that when you sign up to play the sport, you sign up to follow the rules that are in place, no questions. Otherwise you are doing nothing but cheating yourself. If you think that the USGA had'n't already made a determination about what happened prior to DJ finishing the round, you are sadly mistaken. They knew that they would have to address the situation immediately whether he was either 1 or 100 shots in front. I invite our resident pro to comment on this, will be interested to hear Zeus's take. I play golf - not very well, and I do understand rules. After all, I am an accountant who battles the IRS over nitpicky terms on US tax code pretty frequently. My personal beef is this - why the heck can the USGA not just say yes or no to a penalty stroke immediately...why do they wait till the end of the round? Dustin said he didn't think he moved it. So, USGA has Dustin's side of the story and then they have their own determination. Say it one way or another. Rory, Jordan, and Rickie all agree that the USGA not making a determination was a flaw. If those guys who play on the highest level say that, I tend to think that the USGA needs to take a look at possibly revise the rule. Edit - to clarify - my beef is partly with the rule, but mainly with the timing around the rule.
  24. So true - a big room makes a huge difference. Someone out there probably wrote some treatise on this next thought - but having speakers appropriately sized for the room definitely makes a difference too.
