  1. First, knock out the obvious. Try hooking your other speaker to the right channel and see if the same thing happens. If not, at least you know it's not the speaker. From there...well...that's out of my expertise, ha ha. Good luck to you, hopefully someone else will chime in with some more ideas.
  2. You don't really have to negotiate, you just call around to find the best deal, then see if your local guy is willing to beat it. When I first went to my local guy he quoted me a price that I was quite happy with compared to the MSRP price I was seeing online. Then last second I decided to try calling around, got a way better price, went back to the local guy and he ended up beating it. A little homework saved me almost a grand so I was able to upgrade my surrounds and rears and sub.
  3. The 103 still has analog outs, it's just that the 105s DACs are better. $500 better? I'll never know.
  4. I just went from a PS3 to a 103 and you can read my review from the link in my sig. Keep in mind that the oppo does not have much internal hard drive space, so using it as a server may not work for you unless you are going to plug an external into it thru the USB or unless you have an external on your network that you can go thru. So far I have not had any trouble playing any file types which I can't say the same about the PS3, although the PS3 was better than XBox...
  5. Thanks mustang guy for the linkage! mlundy, if you call the dealers, you can most likely get the SW-115 for around $650-$750. I got mine for $600, but I bought it as part of a package deal, so I'm sure that knocked the price down a bit. I love my 115, and I am willing to bet that most others would too =^) And get some direct firing speakers for the back. I've read that either/or sounds good, some prefer direct for the sides, wide dispersion for the back, it'd just take some trying of both to see what you prefer but I have the RS-62IIs on the side and 81IIs in the back and I think it's great.
  6. Ha, maybe. I think that movie theaters are getting more advanced with their sound as well.
  7. I didn't think of checking the phase. Might be a good idea to double check that.
  8. I stand corrected: http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Universal-Composite-Converter-Standard/dp/B0080KN18K/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1353577759&sr=1-2&keywords=hdmi+to+rca+converter May be more trouble than it's worth tho, cuz you'd also have to get an HDMI splitter to send the video signal to a monitor, unless you have an old TV laying around that accepts the yellow rca...Might be able to find one for super cheap at a garage sale or second hand store...
  9. If you do end up buying the RS 52IIs, don't pay MSRP! They can be had for way cheaper. As others have said, try to find the older versions tho as they will match a little better, different crossover points, etc.
  10. Thanks for the review. It makes me feel better about my RS-62II purchase =^) Reference is right about the oppo tho, have you read my review? Link is in my sig, I compare it to the PS3 which I was satisfied with as well. Even looking for a used 93 will most likely be worth the step up. Plus, you'll be able to start digging into multichannel music =^D
  11. As other people have mentioned, everything is better with bluray. If you are an audio guy, your ears will thank you. Uncompressed vs compressed, you already know what you should do =^)
  12. You could get a Roku, it has internet radio (Pandora), you will probably want to put a cheap monitor in there to use it tho. You could also get apple TV for the airplay capabilities. Anything that plays on your laptop/PC can play thru airplay. edit: Never mind, you said your amp has only RCAs...disregard.
  13. Sounds pretty shady. Hopefully the buyer ends up getting them, but it sounds like the Uship character is trying to play the system.
  14. When you step up to a speaker like this, if the source material is crappy, the sound is going to be crappy. I had this same problem when listening to lower bit MP3s. Bass and treble is the first thing to go in compressing audio. I'm going to say that buying a 'nicer' CD player isn't going to help you. Try moving the speakers further away from each other if you can, maybe even pull them a little bit more from the wall. Also, 45-50w is not a lot for these speakers, but you will get that full power since you are only driving the 2. If you are really wanting to 'upgrade' something, I'd get an AVR with more power, something around 100w. Have you tried running the EZ setup even tho it only gives you the 5.1/7.1 option? Might be worth a shot if you haven't already. Just pick 5.1 and see what happens.
  15. ^^^According to the back of the DVD, it's 7.1 that's 'optimized' for 11.1.
  16. Either RB-81s, or RB-61s. Benefit of the 81s is that you can buy them separately and not in pairs.
  17. I have a Klipsch SW-115 and I think it sounds great with HT and music. It is not boomy or flabby sounding at all. I plan on getting a second one as well to even out the bass response in my room.
  18. Thank ya =^) A new TV is definitely on my short list of next purchases. The 42" just isn't cutting it any more. And lucky for me, my wife is complaining about it more than I am, so when we get some money saved up, it'll be an easy purchase.
  19. I guess you could say that it ended up being that way, but the convenience factor definitely was what started me listening to more music. Having quality speakers definitely helps in the equation too =^)
  20. @reference_head, I tried those settings and it definitely sharpened up the picture quite a bit. I have a couple of the settings a little different but the picture definitely looks a lot better. Thank ya!
  21. I would start saving up for a new sub. I'm sure it'll do you fine for now, but upgrading it may bring you to a whole new HT world. Even if you don't want to spend all that much, a decent sub can be had for $300.
  22. It loads way faster than the PS3. The convenience factor has gone up in multiples. That'd be a pretty sweet price to pick a 95 up for. I don't really see myself taking full advantage of what the 105 has to offer over the 103, so I don't see myself looking to upgrade it at all. As far as a little something extra special, I'd say there are some more 'future proofing' than the last players. What is included in this player kind of makes up for the current technical shortcomings of my 4311.
