  1. Thanks for posting the link, it's a good read. I really like the convenience of digital audio.I acquired a Squeezebox Touch , and have stored all my CD's in a lossless format on a dedicated music laptop. Using an iPad with the Ipeng app gives me instant access to all my Cd's digitally,I really like it a lot! I have been curious about the higher sampling rates and looked at HD Tracks to see what it's all about, but the selection wasn't my cup of tea when I looked.i may have to revisit. I have read numerous people's opinions about not being able to hear a difference between a 256 Kbps file ,and the same file in a lossless format .For me, on my system ,there is a noticeable difference, one is fuller, the other is thinnish sounding. I don't think I have exceptional ears so it always surprises me when i hear that statement.....In my opinion anyway. However,,,,I am still encountering some really nasty sounding Cd's that sound about the same in either format, It's good to know that people are working on upping the quality of the digital realm. 2. Have you been stocking up on hats? The big day is coming up and it's still pretty chilly in the Midwest.
  3. I am pretty excited about getting the sub, it's got to be an improvement.. However,,,, I might have to put a delay on ordering it now,, I got home from work and the Mrs told me the doctor recommended some out patient surgery for her ....we'll see how things pan out. Sorry to get off topic Derrick Mark
  4. I am ordering a new PSA xv-15 this weekend , hopefully that will give me a chance to see which I prefer. I currently have a sub-12 with my rf-83's, it isn't quite cutting the mustard...although the 83's sound pretty nice when set on large.... Mark
  5. I had the same problem..I started a thread called How To Post Pictures With a Mac,,if you use the search box you can probably pull it up. I don't know if it will help if you are using a p.c. , but its worth a shot. Good luck Mark

    Yes Tour

Your welcome,, if you go I think you'll enjoy it,,it really seemed like they were at peace with themselves and enjoyed playing.,, I have seen a few other "senior " bands and it seemed like some of them were trying to relive their younger days, these guy's seemed to be content with their place in rock history, and they respect the music that put them there. www.yesworld.com/ Mark
  7. If you get a chance to see Yes on their current tour, do so, they were better this go round than when I saw them in 79. I wrote a little review in the Music and Movies section.
  8. Having Internet radio makes it a lot easier to expand my musical horizons, since upgrading my speakers everything sounds good....Duder,your second post cracked me up,you may want to add music in it ...[]
  9. Life's simple pleasures! I get pretty excited when I am home alone too. have fun Mark

    Yes Tour

The Yes tour came to Omaha tonight and played at the Holland Performing Arts Center. The Holland Center usually plays host to symphonies and orchestras, it's a pretty nice venue with really nice acoustics,,,it rarely hosts "rock"bands. I was a little skeptical about seeing another band from the 70's but the combination of the venue and the fact that they are playing three albums in there entirety , ( The Yes Album, Close To The Edge, and Going For The One ) made me decide to take a chance. I am really glad I did. jJon Anderson was replaced with Jon Davison, which kind of bummed me out.To me half of the Yes sound is Anderson's vocals so I was expecting to be disappointed , but ,this guy sounds remarkably like Andersen did in his prime, there was absolutely no compensating on the vocal end. In fact there was no compensating for anything.i forgot how talented Steve Howe was. To me it's a pretty tall order to pull off playing a couple classic album's decades later but they definitely did an excellent job of it. I saw them in the late 70's and to me they were better this time around than they were back then.(not being wasted might play into that also). If they are coming to your town on this tour and you like any of the above albums I would check them out. Mark
  11. Thanks for the notice,,I just listened to A Space in Time and Pump Iron yesterday .....which is kind of weird. He was a great talent. Mark
  12. Lol ..My handy dandy speaker to beef converter puts them equivalent to prime sirloin. I see Omaha Steaks is selling that for around 20$ an lb,,,,,hmmmm, 64lbs x 20 .. ......maybe we can work something out.[] Mark That being the case, you should sell me those RB-75's as they are somewhat beefy.
  13. Thanks for taking the time to answer those questions Youthman. You summed up the difference's very well...., F.Y.I , the quadruple bass management is available when setting front speakers to Large. It allows other options in the Sub Mode ( in the speaker GUI) to appear ...you can run sub as LFE.. ..L&R+LFE .....or OFF. . I am assuming that setting a crossover on the left and right is the 4th option since it is called quadruple bass management.... The difference in my stuff is huge when I set the mains to large, you may or may not find it be so since you have subs that are more capable than mine. . the newer amp power sections must run cooler, as my 354 runs very warm and I use external amps also. Enjoy! , Mark
  14. Hi Jason, welcome. I have never heard the in-ceiling speakers , so I can't really say which would be best. I am sure others will chime in. I did want to thank you for posting the link to your entertainment stand tho. Looks like something I could use in the future Mark
  15. No problem. Looks to be a very good cause. Maybe donations will increase as it gets closer to the event. Mark
  16. I am always pretty happy to find a Subway for fast food. I went vegetarian about 7 years ago , and besides Taco Bell there are very few fast food places to eat. Surprisingly ,most Chinese vegetarian dishes are pretty blah. The veggie foot longs from Subway are really good. remember to hug a tree today ![] Mark
  17. Youthman , I know the choice wasn't an easy one to make, the UMC-1 has a lot of nice features that the Harman does not. I went back to the HK mainly because I liked the options it offered for bass management. I think the EZQ calibration really hones in on the 3 woofers on the 83's, and brings out the best in them. The UMC had a nice sound and was very nice for setting levels . If I had more experience and patience with the Umc it would have made my choice a lot tougher as well. As for the HK,I am curious as to how you thought things sounded running the 83's as large, and using the bass management tools that are offered by doing so...also, since they changed to the different amps, does it run on the warm side? I really liked how cool the UMC ran. Mark
  18. Nice,,,I had a F-2 system that I really liked. I think you will be happy when you get it all hooked up. Welcome to the forums! Mark
  19. I know that the squeezebox touches are discontinued but you do a pretty good job locating things on the inter web. I absolutely love mine, I have all my music in a lossless format that streams from my computer to the touch using an iPad. Making playlists on the fly is pretty cool, and the sound is great. Very nice house , by the way. Mark
  20. Thanks Tigerman, I would suggest nixxing the cabinet around the center channel. It is really bad for acoustics. Just set the TV directly on top of the speaker, if you must. I would also set the surround speakers on their ends. Again, not good for acoustics to lay them on their sides. Any barriers around speakers interferes with lower frequencies and muddies the sound. westcott, thanks for the advise, it is more of a shelve than a cabinet, it has an open back and is very solidly constructed. He is a union carpenter , and did a very nice job veneering it to match the 83's and 64, but since we have a hodgepodge of different types of wood it didn't pass the WAF and got painted. I had the tv directly on the speaker, but it was to wobbley. It sounds the same in or out of the cabinet to my ears, and there is no reverb or rattle. As for the 75's being on their sides, I went a couple of months having them upright before trying them on their sides.(a bigger room would be ideal) They actually sound better on their sides and fill the back of the room better.I don't know if its because of having an open dining room to left of the mains, and two hallways in the back but everything sounds very very good as set up.Some kind of perfect storm type thing. For having a Frankensteinish conglomerate of reference speakers , the sound is pretty amazing. I listen to more 5 channel stereo music now then ever before,it used to be just 2channel for a long time. Mark
  21. I also run a Sub-12, but will be replacing it within the next month, with a PSA-xv15. I know how everyone likes pictures, so I will post some when I get it hooked up. Thanks for looking, Mark
  22. I wanted to use bookshelves for surrounds because of room limitations.I had a chance to get RB-75's so I did. They are using an Emotiva upa-200. I had them upright, but they were way to directional, so I have them on their sides,,,kind of a pity for such pretty speakers. The Right
