  1. Just so you know someone is reading this: I want the RS-62s, but due to my wife needing an engine overhaul a few months ago for the 2004 Jeep, funds are not available, unless I sell a kidney. It tapped me out and made me miss out on a few sweet deals here, including the some nice floor standing RF-63's I wanted even more. They will sell, dont worry.
  2. I think there is some confusion here, 12 ga wire has a lot less resistance than the smaller wires like the 18 you mentioned. I have been an electrician around 30 years, just pointing out a misunderstanding. the larger the wire the LESS resistance there is. Also due to flexability and skin effect, most wires actually in use are not solid but made up of smaller strands.
  3. I definatly noticed the build thread, but I had nothing to add to it. Now I am really sorry I could not get there for the tower speakers we talked about a while ago, I missed out on the demo of a life time hearing those subs rock out. But I think you now owe me a new keyboard, unless I can get this one dried out, I drooled all over it [:$]
  4. if you can reach them, wrap the exposed connectors with simple cheap black electrical tape to prevent the contact
  5. I have been thinking about this myself, having a long narrow room, I wanted the RS-62 for a pair of sides, but looking at the physics, in a theater, we do have some in fornt of us, and some way back. But mostly I hear the ones closest to my seating position. IF the sides are all the same speaker, then it makes sence we would get most our direct sound from the near speakers, and reflected sounds would be enhanced from the others further away. but I dont have room for 4 rs-62, mainly due to weight, and because of door ways and windows in my living room. But I could manage 4 of the rs-52, so have not done anything yet. I currectly am using the rs-41's as my sides, and some older KLH for the rears until I decide then I will move the rs-41's to the back position.
  6. I begged, but the wife still says not now . the joys of having a family can sometimes be outweighed by desires for upgrades
  7. Most of my use is for movies, and I mainly listen to classic and the harder rock for music, but I also enjoy jazz, and Bach and love listening to piano and cello , and those seem to be in my living room while the music is playing, That is the best recomendation I feel I can give, realistic, very live sound, and I have an older system. A few weeks after getting new speakers you may want to readjust the EQ a little bit, other than that you will be very impressed with the sound improvement. Do yourself a favor and at least listen to them.
  8. turning the center channel spreakers on the side will result in a strange high frequency coverage, unless you rotate the horn 90 degrees.
  9. Thanks for those links. I followed them to the ends, and it seems any of the 3 will be fine. I was not sure about if I should look at the series ii 7 but it seems what ever I can find for a good price will be the winner, when wife allows me. I have too many expencive hobbies to keep them all in the front all the time. I really like my RB-35, so I am sure that the upgrade will be dramatic when I do it. Thanks for all the information, while my 30 year old daughter cant understand why I can not be happy just listening to music on a cheap boom box like she does, Like many here; I always look for a better music experiance. thanks again.
  10. To ask a favor of the membership: after reading many posts here, these seem to be the goals for my upgrade of my rb35/rc35 and making them (the 35's) the rear, and these new one, the front of my 7.1 home theater. I have noticed a few list having both in various systems, and some used to have them , now have others. considering the trouble of finding a matching center channel rc64 for older issues, what major differences will I have between these 3 various, RF series mains? So far I gather that tthe 63, has more detail; 83 seems close but with more Ommph for music. It would be nice to find a way to know where the new series of the 7ii fit in? not that the wife will allow it any time soon, after getting the sw-115 three months ago, I will have to wait for more improvements, but comments from those that have owned and /or heard these side by side would help with upgrade dreams. Thanks in advance.
  11. I would love to see the new Avatar, maybe this fall ?
  12. wow.. seems one of my neighbours is NOT the dumbest in the world after all. I dont know what to say, thanks for the entertainment.
  13. The math continues to be 10x power increase to doube the volume. its a logorythm not straight addition this means the 10 watts or less we normally run, needs to go to 100 watts to double the present volume, and need 1,000 watts to double it again, so I always laugh when I hear kids talking Car stereo power, thinking the money they will spent for a 750 watt amp to replace their existing 500w amp is going to be a major boost, when the facts show it may not even be very noticable.
  14. Thank you for the offer bvlaw, but I must pass for now. I can not spend anything until after we get the wifes jeep back from the shop. It is getting at least a partial overhaul, not sure of the total bill for that either yet. (full over haul quoted at 2,500, but may be less) She might hurt me if I spend money on "Fun" now [:'(] This seems to be a wonderful, very helpfull group of people here, I am so glad I found this forum. When I get finances in order I will post here first.
  15. Thanks for info, and no offence taken. I like these 35's, and they are still like new, but book shelf was all I had room for when I got them. Now I have more space, and a better processer and want better speakers (dont we all) gonna be hard to get a center to match the older system...
  16. Thinking about it, dont wait on me tho, really prefer RF-83, also this could get me in trouble with 'She who must be obeyed'. only an hour or more drive too, wonder how much an improvement from my current set up this would be, and will my center channel suck now ?
  17. you said the magic word DIMMER?!??!! that never occured to me to mention because they are such noise generators, most people avoid them because of that. Have you tried turing off that cutcuit to see if the noise goes away?
  18. No. a 2amp and even the 1.5 amp fuse will pass a lot more amperage than the required 200Ma Match the correct size, 200 MIli amp and slow blo is what it asked for, thats what you should pick up and use. I like the link that moray posted, and its statement of trying to protect a 50 cent fuse at risk of the device is accurate. play it safe, protect your turntable.
  19. Larry, one thing I didnt mention, that could be part of your problem could also be from the transformer on the pole, we had that happen at one office I was tracing down noise in, FYI ballast/transformer is a coil of wire, the newer electronic light ballasts are not as much of an issue as the older style
  20. I am an IBEW electrician, Hard to tell with out me testing things, but start by checking to see if the electrical box housing is grounded (as it should be) will shield some, also moving the XO coil position in relation to the panel as suggested will diminish the effects of EMI. Are there any old style fluorescent ballasts from lighting in your house? those are notorious for 120Hz hum, as well as multiples of that due to 60HZ frequency of US power grid, 100Hz (from the 50Hz) for UK systems. this is a start if you are not 100% confortable in your electrical panel, call a electrician for a safety inspection ( that can be a free estimate) if he sees a loose wire will most likely correct that as a courtesy
  21. for what its worth I didn't have a preference between the RB 35 and RB 75 when I got my 35's many years ago. There was a sonic difference in voicing around the upper midrange, but both were equally pleasant to me, so I made my final choice on price, due to having no real preferences between the 2, but as noted: good luck getting a center channel to match them. I see no reason to upgrade my 35's unless I got a RF7 or such I like the 81 also but have not been able to a-b 81 with these older models, they are all in the same ball park for performance to me.
