  1. Perhaps the idea is that a sound reproduction system should faithfully reproduce that which is on the recording - nothing more, nothing less. I believe that the real problems start when audiophiles want things to "sound better [or different] than the source material itself". That is the root of all this thrashing, IMHO. Chris makes a good point. I can't count the number of times I've read posts from self-styled "audiophiles" on another well known forum gripe that gear (especially speakers) is too forward sounding, or "bright" or "fatiguing". They want something more muted or muffled it seems. While it's probably true that some gear distorts source material with brightness, etc., , I get more of an impression that most of these folks actually desire equipment which distorts the source in the opposite direction by muting it. That's particularly the impression given in discussions of horn loaded speakers. I love the sound my own instrument makes and I love the sound of a great orchestra in a good venue and the closer I get to that in recorded sound, the better I like it. It helps a lot to experience and appreciate what live music actually sounds like. (And, yes, it can be "bright" and even fatiguing at times!) Just my $.02. Cheers guys.
  2. And cables should be plugged into things like speakers, amps, etc. Have a great day guys.
  3. Dough for Joe on the way. All my best.
  4. Happy Wednesday, gents. We get storms like Buffalo every so often, but not as often. Different story in the foothills and mountains 20 or so miles west of us. Baxter is settling into his new digs quite well and thinks he's lived here for years, or so it seems. Good news. Will check back later. Chuck.
  5. I wonder if there's such a thing as a "high end" (pun intended) cable enema? Would Klipsch sound even better??
  6. Baxter is sleeping through the night on his bed and that's a blessing in itself. He loves to play and wants to attack his rope tug first thing in the morning. We try not to disappoint. He's a lover dog of the first order and a happy soul. Thanks for asking!! Chuck
  7. Hell, I had to go low carb and gluten free to lose weight. All I had to do is drink more coffee!! Now they tell me. Mornin' all ... it's warming up temporarily in Colorado and life is good. Baxter is settling in to his new digs and we think he's getting the idea that no one is going to send him away again. Will start some leash training later today if we get enough ice melted away. Check back in a while.
  8. dtel called it right ... a work of art. Now ... Phase II should be one that shoots watermelons!! I've seen dopey cable shows based on less than that.
  9. They really do care and are loyal. Makes it even more appalling how some folks treat them. Our guy was abandoned somewhere around KC and a good Samaritan took him to an ASPCA shelter, which handed him over to the Springer rescue operation. Thank God for the kind people in this world.
  10. Well great for both of you, I would bet he is happier than you about the change. No doubt he's the happiest of all. Thanks guys. Will try to get a pic uploaded soon. BTW he does like rock 'n roll on the B-3 AND on the Cornwalls! My kinda pooch.
  11. Mornin' guys and thanks for the nice comments about our new Springer/family addition. He's great !! We think he's about 4, and he loves to play. Very verbal, too. He brought us his new tug toy this morning and "talked" to us about playing. His name is "Baxter" and responds well to it. He must have had a name in a former life, but the rescue folks didn't know what is was. No matter. He's a happy boy and we are delighted!! Wishing you all the best day today. Chuck.
  12. Great price for a very good speaker, regardless of the plant marks. If you were closer, I'd bite and expand my 5.1 KLF HT to 7.1. Good luck on the sale.
  13. Good morning, all. Big day for us. Driving to the metropolis of Burlington, CO to pick up our new rescued Springer Spaniel. From what we can tell, he'll be a great addition to the family. I've had a Springer before and he was the best pup I've ever owned. This one was abandoned and needs a forever home. Can't wait. (Hope he likes rock 'n roll on the B-3!!) My better half has been shopping furiously for dog beds, toys, food, etc., etc. We lost our little, beloved Shih Tzu in September and it left a big void in our lives. Have a great Sunday everyone and bless you all. Will check back in later ... probably not till tomorrow. Chuck.
  14. Forgot to say Happy Saturday guys and congrats to the Legendary Tarheel!!
  15. It wouldn't add to the value if I were the buyer, but who knows what the general public would find attractive? Might find a buyer who thinks this is a real upgrade over his Bose "system." At least it's Klipsch. In-ceiling probably has a decent WAF too. I'm just grateful my better half has no problem with my big honkin' floor standers.
  16. Jim, I have not had that problem with either the 30's or the 10's, but some others have. Check in with Morey James on the forum... he has had a lot of experience with the issue. Personally, my speakers are still rockin' hard and provide an amazingly good HT without any problems so far and I bought them new in 1997 or 1998. Chuck.
  17. love our Sammy plasma! Of course it was easy to love since it replaced an 8k pound rear projector which belonged in a museum somewhere.
  18. Mornin' folks and Happy Friday. Looks like I missed a bunch of stuff yesterday. Dave, sorry about your Dad. I lost mine as a kid and it's tough at any age. Wish him a joyous journey and be grateful for all the time you had. Still cold in Denver metro with snow on the ground. I'm sure the ski resorts are doing their "happy dance." Can't wait to pick up our new rescue Springer on Sunday!! We're getting ready with new beds, bowls, crate and all that. Stay warm everyone.
  19. I have an all KLF HT system and it is excellent (30's, 10's and C-7). The 20's are very similar to the 30's ... just smaller woofers, I believe. If you use a good sub, that should not matter. Not familiar with the others you mention, but others will chime in no doubt. The trick for me was to put together a powerful sonically matched system. Mixing and matching did not work well for me when I tried it in the past. Best of luck!
  20. Tarheel, take those lessons!! You've nothing to lose and will probably have some fun learning a few chords. Who knows ... next thing we know you may be in Nashville or at Carnegie Hall. Another cold day in Colorado. May have to venture out today ... but nothing "invigorating" about it!! Back later ....
  21. Count your blessings!! It's single digit temps and snow in Denver metro this a.m. Good news regardless of that .... we're getting our Springer Spaniel rescue pup on Sunday. Couldn't be happier. Have a great day everyone.
  22. Mornin' gang. Where ya at? Cold, snowy day in Denver metro. Glad that we got in the yard work and bbq over the weekend. Very close to getting a rescue pup. Stay tuned.
  23. Morning guys. Finished yard clean-up on Sunday, then got into some multi-tasking watching the Broncos game and doing a long hickory smoke on some ribs. Someone has to do it. That's what happens when she really wanted a set of non-stick pots and pans from Walmart. We need to be more sensitive to these things!!
