I never knew what caused the breakup. For my tastes the very best that came from any of them was the Cream years. Some good stuff from Clapton later on but never as good. I find it interesting that this older music is getting rediscovered and my adult kids are amazed at the caliber of musicians from back then compared to now. My grand kids are a bit amazed too when I tell them that cool song is 50 years old. Then I catch them listening to these oldies and getting rid of that rap and hip hop no talent current garbage they were listening to.
  3. Are there any slabs down there with free audio?
  4. Hey do all the sticky out things on that barb wire bleed off audio and power spikes too?
  5. Yeah but you have to bring the poles too or else the electrons will puddle in the sags.
  6. Will separate single conductors work or do I need to use twisted pairs?
  7. I like mine to come from counter rotating pairs of turbines so the AC is all natural.
  8. I fall in the camp that once you get past generous but not stupid big conductor size all else is marketing. http://secure.campaigner.com/csb/Public/show/566i-11wmhk--kn6xe-amwdg0m9 This takes you to a site of interest I ran across some time ago. I have yet to do more than download some audio freebies a couple of which have become reference testing songs. I enjoy reading his stuff and I am particularly amused by this issue. I am also intrigued by his efforts at music and recordings but his free downloads have not particularly inspired me to send money. But the snake oil diatribe is right on the money and was fun to read.

Wheels of Fire and Disreali Gears two of my favorites. Wonder if they pondered all those wasted years apart at the peak of their talents?

There is a video on Youtube of Ginger Baker doing his Toad drum solo. I can see why there was a big circle of people around him in utter silence as he played those drums. Now the thing is the video was done when he was playing the Albert Hall in 2011. My favorite all time drum solo and the old gray haired dude does not miss one beat.
  11. Pro gear IS better Jim. I always figured if looks were important then a silk screen hanging of some sort could cover the front of ugly so your music could be pretty. You need to hear a set of KPT 456's or newer equivalent too and then you too will be doomed.
  12. Yeah I unloaded this morning but great weather. I get home and this must be my lucky month. A pristine KP-201 in birch with only one small ding will be in my hands tomorrow and only a 40 mile round trip to get them. Capacitors on order. Aint they purty! The voice in my mind said go buy these and I have to obey the voice in my mind.
  13. So tell me how you liked them? OK I will try to pretend to hang my head in shame.
  14. Joe the value of speakers is determined in some ways by original parts. I have an old set of Heresy's right now that looked good but inside they have mismatched woofers but from the outside you could not see that. They are sequentially numbered too so they did not come from the factory that way. What is in the box is at least as important as the condition of the box.
  15. I had some thoughts regarding this topic on the way home from Hope Sunday. One of the moderators had mentioned that it kind of hurt some Klipsch employees feelings when stuff is switched out and other things put in place to "improve" the sound. I was also going over a conversation I had with Roy and decided the following. Lots of Harley riders and muscle car owners buy certain basic factory items. They like them as they are but have a world of customized changes they can make with aftermarket parts. Go faster sound cooler look better according to taste. If that basic very capable and desirable base product was not there then neither would be the fan club of people who want something that is a bit different. I like to tinker and for me taking a great basic thing and being able to play with it fascinates me and yields personal satisfaction in the end result when the pieces all work right. I don't know of any other speaker company that affords buyers such an opportunity with a huge base of users who tinker with things and make the knowledge available. There is also the test of time and the only other thing I see around here that has a sizable loyal following is old Altec and their group of tinkerers and restorers. I have never heard many of these fru-fru speakers like $100,000 Wilson's nor any Dali's but in general those that have heard say an MCM 1900 and the fancy pants stuff would rather save tons of cash and have the real life MCM experience and not some pure tonal experience. I trust their judgement and would travel to hear Klipsch but not the other gear. Maybe this is a narrow outlook but I am to the point where what I have is good enough I don't much care what others have any more. And it was built with Klipsch or derived from Klipsch. All in all I would rather be in the place that tinkers with tweeters and capacitors and not $5,000 cables and $250 fuses since the owners are terrified of doing mods to their expensive boxes. I want something I had a hand in doing and not a sacrosanct audio shrine.
  16. That's OK I had fun typing it.
  17. I have to agree with you John. It is incumbent for the seller to answer questions to the fullest or reduce the price since people are taking a chance. Having been on the buyer side many times I have experienced why some people really don't want you to have a good look before you buy. Not saying this guy is a bad egg but his refusal to reveal all means he will be treated like he has something to hide. Unscrewing a made to be removed panel hurting value IS a specious argument.
  18. I hear they have a great weight loss program going too. Eco smart they also teach you how to cut back on electricity usage and return to the earth mother simpler way of agrarian life free from all modern conveniences that so ruin the ecosphere. They have also embarked on a methane reduction program where under the advice of AOC they eliminate herbivores from people who just don't understand meat is bad and replace it with stone soup. Bernie etal will no doubt be running cruise ship fundraisers to paradise soon.

    What I Got Today!

OK you do know I am talking about just painting my MAHL tweeter lens and not the whole thing? No way would I cover that wood with stuff.

    What I Got Today!

Yup but I prefer those ones that use the DE10 driver

    What I Got Today!

You mean you never recapped them? They will sound better if you do I can assure you. All the old mylar and oil can capacitors I have measured are at the very least high ESR and capacitance normally has drifted too.

    What I Got Today!

I am considering fixing these up with new tweeters but painting them black. For the first time I think with these it will be needed as that all black look is nice on this set. How did yours sound?

    What I Got Today!

Picking them up tomorrow morning. KP-201's with one little ding and stands. Never had a set before and this looks like a good one to get. Capacitors on order and maybe a new MAHL tweeter too. Recap for sure though and I have heard so much about these I could not say no.
  24. OK what he is not telling you is any adhesive that bonds the vinyl to the wood also has to go to. I would sure try a small area first without removing to see how it holds up. Once dry you can pry and poke and see if it adheres well. Good luck on your project and keep us updated on results.
  25. It's organic and Earth friendly too! MPG not so good though.
