That's a cool poster. When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut. Now I just take up space.
  3. My Road King Classic got $10000 worth of damage when the movers dropped it off the truck. I got a customized 07 Fatboy from the dealer in 11 that had 1700 miles on. It now has 3200 miles on it. I used to ride 8 to 10000 miles per year. I think its time to sell. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

That could very well be but certain events in my life make me want to believe it was earlier. I turned 16 in May 1974. My father was was off from work due to an injury in workplace accident in 1973. He was finally able to go back to work in 1974. I traveled to Germany during Easter vacation 1974. Summer of 74 we traveled out west and typically only went on one vacation per year. So it seems that too many things happened from 1973 to Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

It seems the history and my memory are conflicting. They say the memory is the first to go.... And I don't remember what the second thing is.... Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk

I'm almost certain we didn't go in 1975. The history states that it opened January 15, 1975 and normally we went to Florida during Christmas holiday. I was in HS, my brother was in grade school. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I was a kid my family went to Miami, Florida 3 times for vacation to visit relatives. On the drive from Chicago we made stops along the way to see other attractions. St. Augustine was one stop, Cape Kennedy another time. Apollo 12 was on the launch pad if I remember correctly ready to go up. We also visited Disney World. I could have sworn we went the first year it opened. The next time we rode Space Mountain. According to history Space Mountain did not open until January 1975. However I'm pretty sure we rode Space Mountain before then because of other events that happened in my life. My question is if unofficially opened prior to that or could there have been another rise that was similar to Space Mountain at Disney World back in the 1972 to 1974 time frame?
  11. The Road Glide has a frame mounted fairing. It's a more stable bike in windy weather...though while at the dealer last week I saw the new fairing design and they claim the new fairing designs with pass through venting is supposed to help make the fork mounted fairings more stable. To me though...the traditional Harley engine design is a little past it's prime. My next Harley will be a V-Rod. Liquid cooled Porsche designed motor with power that will makes the bike competitive with crotch rockets. If I were to get a traditional HD I'd consider the Breakout...it's a cool looking softail framed bike.
  12. Antique Sound Lab has some nice stuff... I did a Google search for Antique Sound Labs and the first thing that came was a $99 tube amp....but it looks like those amps are long gone....
  13. My father had a Grundig console stereo. Not quite like that model but close. I remember the center and one side hinged tops had to be opened to access the amp, tuner and turntable. The other had storage for LP's.
  14. When I was in college my fraternity brother had a pair of Klipsch speakers..not sure of the model but they were big and when powered by my Yamaha CR-2020 were so loud the other fraternities were calling the police to complain about the volume. Currently I have a CA-2010 that's been checked by two technicians and they are amazed at how well it performs and sounds without any replacements. I am checking it on a regular basis to make sure everything's ok. I'm planning i'm dedicating my custom Heresy's to a tube system but I will try them out with my Yamaha as well.
  15. I have a Cary SLP03 preamp between my sound sources and my VTA ST-120 amp. I'm very happy with how well it compliments the sonic quality of the amp. It is far better than the Roy Mottram built preamp I gladly got rid of.
  16. That's pretty close! Here's a photo of something close to what I'll be getting. I'm looking forward to getting these. So maybe they aren't quite as I described. I didn't know these were designed by someone else. My apologies.
  17. Well...I splurged. I spoke with a forum member here and we came to an agreement that he will build a pair of custom Heresy speakers based on Bob Crite's findings. The speakers will be all new construction from 3/4 birch plywood on 4 sides, 1" MDF on the top and bottom and 1" MDF and 1/4 waterfall Bubinga veneer on the front. The other sides with be cherry veneer. The drivers will be upgraded as well as the crossover. The speakers are 40" tall and front ported which will improve the bass. These will make my LSiM703 speakers sound like mediocre. The price was reasonable., As the build progresses I will keep every in the loop. Blake
  18. I'd be happy to just build a kit. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
  19. My father had a Grundig console stereo when I was growing up. Touching it was forbidden. I couldn't tell you what kind of amp was in it though I do remember hearing about it having a Garrard record changer in it. I got a Panasonic all-in-one stereo when I was 13 that had a record changer and cassette player/recorder. When I went away to school 'everyone' had a stereo that consisted of a reciever, turntable and speakers and maybe a cassette or open reel deck...though some still had 8-tracks. I think Walkman's and ghetto blisters, or boom boxes, were the beginning of the demise of HiFi audio.
  20. Back in 2009 I gave a 'friend' furniture. And then I moved away and I was no longer her friend according to her. It's funny though. Because of the industry I'm in the CAD/CAM software I've been using for 26 years and consequently the people that work for that software company that I've known for years know her because she works for the same company there Ohio office. She's been there forever so she probably really didn't need free furniture. I didn't find that out until a few months ago. Not to brag but now I'm finally making decent money....so I guess I should chalk that up to a life experience.
  21. Bob Latino at Tubes4HiFi Ida good guy to deal with. Roy Mottram not so much. He tries to get away with selling defective merchandise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I haven't but there are tube amp kits. Tubes4HiFi.com has kits. I bought one but had them assemble it. The ST-120 sounds great. Soon I will have it powering either Heresy's or maybe another Klipsch type speaker. I'd like a S.E.T. amp driving Klipsch speakers. I've heard a setup like that and the sound is very good in my opinion.
  23. I was working in Scarborough, Maine from 2009 to 2011 and living in Gorham, Maine and passed by a high end audio store every day. It was at that time that I became very interested in tube amps. I stopped in one day. I mentioned tubes to the store owner and he insisted that nobody made them anymore. I think he knew they did but was desperately trying to sell me what he had.
  24. I've been researching speakers and considering designing and building them myself or at least designing them and contracting someone else to build them because I lack the tools and space....and then I see when on the DIY Audio forum they warn all the newbies against trying to do that for fear of not getting good results...yet here it seems as if mixing band matching drivers and experimentation is encouraged. Now I can see if a newbie picks out hardware that is way out that warning them might be good. Yet if someone picks a proven design to start from and then alters the driver selection slightly based on the driver specs. Sure...adjustments in the crossover design may be necessary but that seems more like what gets discussed here. Years ago shortly after getting out of school I got a job at a hearing aid manufacturer in Chicago. Other engineers and I had discussions about speaker design and the idea to design and build my own was something I wanted to do. I'm a mechanical engineer and electronics baffles me....but speakers are mechanical devices driven by electricity so I think I can come up with a driver/cabinet configuration that would be a good start that can be refined by the crossover. What do you guys thing? Excuse the typing if there are mistakes. I trip over smartphone keyboards. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using Tapatalk
