4200... 140... RF-7 ll... DTS:X... Atmos.... sounds like a great combo! Congrats ! Make sure to get San Andreas & Mad Max, those are the 2 best examples of Atmos.

My room is not large, an average room space 16' wide by 13' deep. My seating is along the back wall (with no space behind seating for speakers). I have my RS-7's placed in each corner, on stands, angled into the room... which permits the 140's to sit on top —no problem.
  3. The past few years... I actually found (& purchased) better deals (on Amazon) the week prior to Black Friday & Cyber Monday. On BF & CM, Amazon has screwy time limited & quantity limited deals that basically sell out seconds after they hit & the deal is over. And, even if you happen to luck out & get the deal... you are only allotted 10 -15 minutes to check out & purchase the item, or the deal expires. If you do not have Prime... you then have to find additional items to purchase (in that same 10-15 minutes) to qualify for free shipping (making the deal worthwhile). I usually just buy cheap movies & games.

    What I Got Today!

Congrats on the new 18"... glad the upgrade itch has been scratched. Now go take an ice bath & crank the LFE !!
  5. Much like the guest & visitors to Jurassic World... I think I'd like to have my money back. Didn't care for the movie at all. It seemed derivative, repetitive, & unoriginal. Reminded me of a bad Sci-fi Channel movie on TV with poor casting & poor acting. For well over a year all I heard was... "Chris Pratt, he's so amazing, today's latest action star". Really? I didn't get that at all. Can't think of one character that was interesting or that I wanted to root for (most were extremely dumb). I was bored watching it. Oh well.
  6. A year ago I had considered upgrading my 103... to the 103D. However, hdmi spec for both the 103 & 103D use the old 1.4a hdmi spec from 2010 (1.4a, among other things is limited to 8 bit color, lesser bandwidths, etc.). The later hdmi 2.0 spec has been out since 2013 & offers higher bandwidth that supports 12-bit color, 32 audio channels (Atmos), & higher bandwidths up to 18Gbps (and many other audio & video features). The current version is hmdi 2.0a, which provides even more benefits including support for HDR enabled TV's (4K). And completely separate, is HDCP 2.2 (copy protection) which is not supported by either the Oppo 103 or the 103D. Before I dropped any $$ to upgrade, I wanted to see if Oppo had any plans to offer new models that meet with with both hdmi 2.0a & HDCP 2.2 compliance. At the time I was informed that it would be late 2016 before anything from Oppo will be available with support for hdmi 2.0a & HDCP 2.2 with a future UHD player. If I were you, I'd grab a more budget friendly interim piece for now... & spend $$$ with a future UHD 4K player when they get released. Tomorrow, I'll touch base with Oppo & see if there is any new info or time frame with a future release. Email:
  7. Never been there. Maybe they need a new slogan: Come for the music. Stay for the speakers.
  8. No, just my camera. Same one I used to shoot the Blood Moon last month. Great zoom (optical & digital). Last night, I wanted to shoot the Aurora Borealis (big CME this week), it was supposed to hit the northern US last night (much farther than usual)... but no luck. So instead, I attempted to capture Mars & Venus. You can see them with the naked eye, along with Jupiter. Pretty cool. These are a bit more exciting from October:
  9. Except this was my 1st attempt to photograph this:
  10. Took these this morning. Not the most exciting:
  11. That's how mine are positioned. But I'm sure different rooms, spaces, reflections, wall angles-heights, furniture may have different demands. Easy to toe-in, or toe-out & test optimal placement specific to one's space.
  12. I collect & follow certain artists & writers (Nat Jones, Greg Capullo, Ashley Wood, Brian Michael Bendis, Frank Miller, Garth Ennis just to name a few). Variety is a double edge sword. Mass appeal titles are required) to drive revenue for the casual demographic... but not at the expense of the more esoteric, niche efforts. I collect B&W sketch variants. Got some killer stuff from Nat Jones, Mike Mignola, Scott Cambell, McFarlane etc. More than my share of long boxes.

I've been looking at Pioneer as well. That AVR should get you to the 5.2.4 you were looking for. Did you also pick up a second pair of 140's (for the rear)? Connecting them was a welcome addition for my HT. Just watch San Andreas & it was outstanding. Congrats with the new arrival!
  14. Digested.... to absorb the aggregate of cumulative knowledge recommended for proper placement & position. Otherwise it might sound like crap. Works for me. Although, I am curious what hehind is. Actually... I'm not curious about that one. Depending on which device I'm using to navigate the forum... various keypads, touch pads, touch screens, spell check can all take on a life of their own.
  15. Did you grab the new clear case versions or the regular jewel case editions?
  16. Lot us guys here have recently picked up (one) R-115SW. They should jump on this killer deal and go dual's. No-brainer. GLWS.
  17. Ouch. You would think "dodge" would be in his vocabulary. Glad your wife escaped the incident without a serious outcome.
  18. Sounds like the enclosed CP-6 would be a great choice when in-ceiling is not an option. And at only 11" x 7" x 6" it has a very user friendly footprint.Good luck with your decision!
  19. 1) They should know my name (and they do). 2) My pre-orders should be bagged & boarded (just like my women) 3) They let me know of new stuff (even before Previews does) 4) Imports & exclusives are saved for me 5) Plenty of Kotobukiya, 3A, Hot Toys, NECCA, SIdeshow & Gentle Giant
  20. Talk about perfect timing to add 2 downward firing 15" subs from PSA! San Andreas was crushing the room.
  21. Yeah these perform great. Very pleased ! Hope your sealed Gamma arrives soon. In your space... you'll need a vented house.
  22. Oh yeah. Disaster Demo. Great LFE & Atmos mix. Good stuff !!

    Atmos News

The December 18th release date is a ways off, but by all early accounts... Star Wars The Force Awakens will be getting an Atmos theatrical release. That's good news for the eventual Blu-ray to follow.
  24. Yes sir ! Chapter 7 of Transformers AoE, when they pull into the deserted gas station & Optimus transforms... he crushes the room. Even Michael Buffer would jump. The pulsating music (in the club) & gunfire from John Wick has a great impact. Mad Max is intense; cars, voice over, drums etc., insanely good. So shiny.... so chrome.
  25. I've been in upgrade mode for the past of couple months & after several attempts with various sub combinations, the right setup is finally in place. Moving from dual mismatch 12" (sealed)... to dual (sealed) 15" XS15se's from PSA = a great upgrade for the HT. Footprint is a very manageable 18d x 17w x 19.5" tall, making it easy to place (2) XS15se in my HT. This is my first venture with downward firing subs & they are effective in my 16 x 13 x 8 (1664 cubic foot) space. Transformers AoE, Mad Max, John Wick & U2 Rattle & Hum, all have a nice deep, tight punch & downward firing is about the opposite of decoupling (lol). With my wood floors, it's like having 2 subs with "bonus shakers" thrown in. These dropped right in place & I was calibrated & up in running 30 minutes later. No Jedi mind tricks needed, because these are the subs I've been looking for. Best part I can now finally watch San Andreas & Jurassic World this week. Good stuff. PSA / XS15se / 15" / 550w RMS (Continuous) / 1650w (Peak) / 67lbs / x2
