  1. A lot of technology in these. Good luck with your quest! They really were something. If someone at EV went barking mad and reissued a limited edition release I would camp out overnight (a la my youth and Stones tickets), to get a pair. Always loved Klipsch and EV which is logical I suppose as there was a certain amount of of overlap. Are those yours?
  2. I would agree, the KPT 325s are designed for theatre and will fit into your space nicely.
  3. I agree with the premise,,my current Marantz CD6005 which I bought a couple years ago for about 650 absolutely blows away the NAD unit I bought in the early eighties for about 1400 1980s dollars. Even speakers, my Klipsch RB61 IIs cost a third of my early 80s (1985 to be exact ), EV Interface Cs. My Reference are hands down more detailed and suited for both TV, Movies and two channel stereo listening.
  4. Glad to hear it sounds nice. Always liked EV and wish they would get back into home audio. Had a great pair of Cs back in the 80s. Hard to find them these days and those you do didn't hold up well. At some point I hope to come across some nicely restored Interface Ds, perhaps my favourite speaker of all time.
  5. Wow, and it just fits. How does it sound?
  6. Ok, that makes sense to me now. Must have been a senior moment I was having. Thanks Moray
  7. I have never used the 4-16 type wire. Are you then combining two negatives with two positives at the connection point in the receiver? I'm going to assume a banana plug would be needed to hold it all together?
  8. There will be some "up and over" type runs. The longest of which should be aprox 25-30 feet.
  9. Your place looks lovely and very organized.i lived in a mobile home that I bought here in Yellowknife back in the early 80s; one of the old 12 wides. First place after leaving home and I loved it. Nowhere near as nice as this. The new RP gear looks great and if is as good or better than the Reference II models they replaced you will be more than satisfied.
  10. Well we are in the new condo for a couple weeks as I've mentioned in another thread. Thus far whilst we wait for the new AV unit that my friend is building for us We have been using the old unit with just a 2.1 set up. The new unit should be ready this weekend and my father is flying up from Ontario in two weeks. Time to get things set up. I got rid of most of my old wire when we moved. Question is, gauge. Should I be looking at 12 all around or would 14 suffice?
  11. At the very least it would make for the funkiest cottage of all time.
  12. Like many you will most likely build your system in stages. The frequency responce of your centre is similar to the RC 42II. That being the case (if you wanted to go stand mount), you could probably consider the RB 61Is or RB 51IIs. With a small sub you would be pleased and both sound very nice and detailed. I'd lean towards the 61s if possible. You could upgrade your centre down the road. I used to have a RC42II and quite liked it. Upgraded to a 62 this summer.
  13. Congrats on the opportunity and your fine taste in wives. If I had the space (or a rec room), I would have a pair. They are visually magnificent and in my opinion along with the Palladiums series the most distinctive and beautiful looking speaker ever made by Klipsch or any one else for that matter ( with a notable mention to the new KEF Blade).
  14. I don't think you will ever regret Khorns. they are the official flagship, after all. the rest are all trying to get close, and for some people the compromise in distortion and efficiency is acceptable. Never has been for me. I have ALL HORNS in my setup. And I have had many Heresy's, Cornwalls, LaScalas, Forte's, Forte II's, Chorus, Chorus II's. Had KG4's in my CAR. But always had Khorns as the main setup. My fave of all were the Chorus II's that were not all horns, but I only used those for surround channels, never the mains. Just picturing the KGs in your car. Takes me back to the late 70s and my first car: a Fiat 128 sedan with no radio or anything. I had a monstrous JVC Boom Box buckled into the back seat and plugged into the lighter. The thing had more power than the car itself!
  15. I hear you there. I listen to old jazz for the most part and we both know it dosent sound like a Hip Hop sort of mix. I tend to have the bass about the same with movies. For me it's more about an immersive sound in 5.1 rather than explosive (I find movie theatres too loud). My wife dosent care for big blasts either. I think it is all about what you are looking for and I think you have accurately intuited listening preferences. You find your 7s more than adequate without subs for music? If they have the Reference sound but even more so- THAT is what I'm searching for. Having heard the Hereseys I can say I much prefer the Reference II 61Is.
  16. You may be 100% correct. From the specs they should be fine for what I want and like. As I mentioned before I don't like crazy bass, just appropriate. I have fiddled around with my sub to the point that if you closed your eyes you would think I had a pair of appropriate for the room size floorstanders. This is the sound I'm after, especially if the sound is scalable in different volume levels. Have heard far to many speakers that are great full blast but half dead at normal or softer listening levels. The CW and all other Heritage are officially off the table. It will be between the RF7IIs and P17bs after a listen this November when I'm in Ottawa on business. That will tell the tale.
  17. My listening/living room/dining room an open space. The Living room area is aprox 16 X 15 which continues on but narrows to aprox 15 x12. The whole place is 1088 sq feet in total. I still kick my own behind for not taking the plunge and buying your set. I got mesmerized by what seemed the perfect storm: shipping + duties + the Canadian dollar falling through the floor along with oil prices. The dollar has fallen another nickel since that time. I'm sure yours would have been handled with kid gloves and hard to tell from brand new out of the box. Lesson learned: he who hesitates....
  18. Thanks! We sort of got off track with the klipschorn bit. I really don't feel the room is right for them as my listening position would not be far enough away. Being a condo - fairly soundproof, I would still not be cranking anything too much. I never do anyway. Not the environment for room/wall/floor/window shaking thunderous bass . Still thinking about this and have been all over the map. I was assuming that the 7s wouldn't require a sub. If a sub must remain in the picture my original idea (which I keep coming back to - must be a sign), is a new pair of P17Bs for front mains. It doesn't look as thought any of the Heritage line will be suitable for this space. Although they are nice in the right room I am by no means married to line. I quite like the Reference and the Palladium are even better sounding. They have horn tweeters and midrange, so all the detail I like will be presented.
  19. Had a Nak Dragon back in the day. Used it primarily to record first plays of vinyl. I was always concerned about over playing the albums.
  20. Well that information may be a game changer. I've wanted a pair for decades.
  21. A cautious cynic. Sounds bad but I understand completely. I've worked with the public all my life in a few different career configurations. My great respite from this is my long time involvement with Freemasonry. My Lodge Brethren are all straight shooters that I trust implicitly. It makes for a nice space and great relationships with guys and thier families where one dosent need the wall or filter up all the time. How far have you traveled... :)Roger Made my way through the chairs and was Worshipful Master in 2012. Following my IPM year I found myself at the Secretary's desk and am still there. Yellowknife Lodge 162 under the Grand Lodge of Alberta. Still planning on the Scottish Rite....
  22. Not true, 4 feet or less. Is that right. Hmm. My biggest problem corner has about a foot and a half of drywall then about six feet of picture window. I noticed you mentioned even the KHorns require subs; I was not aware of that. I was hoping to get away from one. This is going to require some serious thought and research.

  24. Are the two way Ds nicer sounding than his original three ways? I have a cabinet maker within my social circle and could pull this off. I trust your judgement and would consider this as a solution. As I mentioned previously, I would like a full range speaker to liberate myself from a sub. Something that would work well for everything. Our modest system is always on; mainly television and movies in 5.1 during the work week and then 2.1 music all weekend. I like a natural full sounding bass but not ridiculous hyper bass. Hard to define but I know it when I hear it.
