  1. I have an EVO 400 that came with EL34s - all stock Primaluna tubes. I changed outthe two center preamp tubes to Kevins Stash Gold Lions and the EL34s to KT150s and I love the way it sounds now. The bass is deep and powerful and the mid range and highs sound fantastic. Still very warm and holographic but much more punch down low - More of a solid state feel for the low bass but all the warmth of an all tube Integrated.
  2. I am obviously not the best communicator. I am not claiming that the Forte IVs don't have really good bass because they have great bass to the mid to low 30HZ. Maybe a lot of subs are too slow to keep up with the Fortes. When I added the REL S812 to my system it actually made higher frequencies sound much cleaner and the mids felt much more solid. The REL made the Fortes sound bigger, the soundstage wider and deeper. For the music I like to listen too the REL pumps deep bass down to below 20 HZ. Most music doesn't need to go that low but if you like David Guetta or Rhiannon types of music the deep bass of the REL expands the contrast quite a bit. Id love toe hear those 1960 Mullard tubes in my EVO.
  3. Adding the REL S812 sub to my system brought my system so much more clarity and the deep bass sounds fantastic. I think you need a fast sub ro go along with the Forte IVs.
  4. As great as my Forte IVs are and the bass sounds deep to the lower 30 HZ range I can’t understand why anyone would not like having subs to fill in the lower registers. Gaga, Ariana grande, Rhiannah edm etc all sound incredible with. The Fortes and the REL sub in my system.
  5. Curious how these subs will compare to my REL S812. Will they seamlessly blend and be able to keep up with my Forte IVs
  6. Happy birthday Roy I love my Forte IVs. Thanks so much. They bring me great joy. That’s a great gift you give to all us fans.
  7. I had an 15” HSU Sub I used with my Forte IVs and it sounded good. I had a chance to get a REL S812 sub and the REL was a much better match in my system. The REL is fast and integrates seamlessly with the Forte IVs. Really just made the Fortes sound like much larger speakers and tremendous bass and mid bass is fantastic.
  8. I changed out my HSU 15 inch sub with a REL S812 to go with my Forte IVs and using the high pass connections the sound was greatly improved. The REL is so fast it appears to keep up with the Fortes. The entire frequency range seems improved and the bass response Is stunning yet it sounds like its just the Fortes playing. I think the important thing is having a fast subwoofer that blends with the speed of your mains. It was definitely a major upgrade to my system
  9. What makes you think captainB would ever even send it out?
  10. Was that the basic amp he was building for you and West Coast? Yes captain Beathheart is a real class act! 🙉
  11. I took Museum Delivery of my first Corvette back in 2000 when I got my C5 - that was an awesome experience. I would not do it again - the been there done that story! I can understand using solid state gear because it can sound amazing and last trouble free for many years. In my space I can't feel the heat of my EVO 400 and so far no problems but that doesn't mean it will never have any problems. As far as boats and swimming pools I am all for everyone besides me owning either.
  12. I won't be buying a new C8 anytime in the near future because on Friday I received my Pink Slip for my 2017 C7 Grandsport. Really nice not having that car payment anymore and I just recently hit 20,000 miles onmy C7. Id love to have a new C8 Zray but only if it was free. Im too old and retired to get into major car debt.
  13. @claudeJi - I'd like to see you in a new C8 hybrid - withe the normal 500 HP gas powered in the back with the 160 hp motor in the front - zero to 60 in under 2.5 seconds! All wrapped in a C8 Z06 body - imagine all the chicks you could pick up in the Motor City!!!! Go get em stud! and $5,000 would be a great deal for that ride.
  14. Roy did an amazing job upgrading the IVs. More accurate, better deeper bass, wider and deeper soundstage with zero fatigue. They sound like much larger speakers than their size presents.
  15. I have Forte 1s that were my fathers before his passing. I upgraded the crossovers to Crites and replaced the tweeters with DaveAs lmahl tweeters and they sound better than new. I use them as my surrounds with Forte IVs as my mains. As good as the modified Forte 1s sound the IVs are much more enjoyable to listen to.
  16. is so sad when we lose these iconic musical great and Burt wrote a lot of amazing songs! RIP
  17. Yes the EVO400 has auto bias and you can just plug in different tubes, flip a switch and the amp adjusts automatically. Primaluna has many nice features.
  18. The stock EL34 tubes sound really good. Primaluna makes tube rolling so easy you can easily change the sound of the amp by rolling in other tubes like I did with the kt150s. One great feature of the EVO400 is home theatre bypass making it so easy to go from 2 Chanel listening on the EVO400 to adding my AVR for TV listening. Many integrated amps do not have that feature.
  19. I traded in my McIntosh hybrid integrated MA252 after hearing the EVO400. The EVO400 was the first all tube amp I had ever listened to and I was hooked. I have no idea if there might be better all tube integrated amps out there. I’m always curious about other amps but not enough to spend my hard earned $$$$ to compare other amps. I am certain there are many great audio products I will never get to hear in my space with my systems gear. I also assume there could be a better sounding amp than my EVO400. I will just let others scratch that Itch and enjoy their curiosity being satisfied. I’d like to read their findings. Meanwhile I’ll enjoy the music coming thru my Forte IVs and the evo400
  20. I would like to hear a Dennis Had 300B amp in my space just to compare to my EVO 400
  21. The internet and social media create crazy hype. Add Utube Audio Reviewers to the growing number of hyped bs and prices escalate faster than the rate of inflation. Look at crypto, Klipsch heritage speaker hype and prices soaring like CRAZY. People see a hyped Utube video about $150,000 speakers and people actually think that is something reasonable. WTH? The power of internet hype is everywhere. Klipsch speakers are great but the Utube hype the past few years have pushed prices of old Heritage and new Heritage speakers to record highs. Why should Amplifier hype be any different. My wife informed me that those $150,000 Wilson’s would not be my next “must have” speakers no matter how good the Utube reviews are.
  22. I upgraded my Forte 1s to Forte IVs for my front speakers and use my 1s for my rear speakers now. For me with my setup the IVs sound much better than the 1s. My 1s have Crites crossovers, and Dave As super tweeters. The IVs have much better mid bass, more solid lower bass and image much better in my space. More centered, deeper and wider sound stage. I love the IVs.
  23. I’m relieved that you are loving your EVO 400 after I raved about it here on the Klipsch Forum. Now that I have had mine for a few years I just like it more and more as the KT150 tubes have been well broken in for many months now
