  1. Just want to give everyone an update a couple of things I've done since my original post. After some of the suggestions in this thread, I purchased a Muzishare X7 integrated amplifier about a month ago through Amazon and used it for two days before one of the tubes began "red plating", which is a new term for me. I switched tubes and concluded the problem was in the socket. Ended up sending it back to Amazon for a refund. Didn't really have it long enough to do any listening or comparisons. Based upon some of the comments here about McIntosh, I went to a local McIntosh dealer to listen to a McIntosh 275 tube amplifier. After a bit of listening they offered to let me demo the unit at home on my La Scalas. For the past five days my wife and I have been comparing it to both my Sansui G-33000 receiver and Sansui CA/BA 2000 separates, listening to a wide range of artists and music. So far, my preliminary observations are that the 275 definitely sounds different than either of the Sanusi units with the La Scalas. I'd describe it as not as forward or detailed, and it seems to soften the overall sound. This was with jazz, rock etc. I also want to say the Sansui's seem to handle the transients in some of my faster paced music better. I'm not sure if these descriptions make sense but these are the words that came to my mind to explain what I thought I was hearing. Is this the "tube sound" that I've read about? By way of background, I've never heard a tube amplifier and have never done a comparison like this before. Any comments or suggestions for additional comparisons, or to just help me understand the differences in what I'm hearing are very welcome. Thanks!
  2. If I was in the market for a new set of HT speakers I'd be all over this and, I'm in the area! GLWTS!
  3. Nice presentation. What amp is this? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  4. I recently purchased this one and it is working great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0796KGVXT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  5. Anyone remember Gold Star TV's? I believe Gold Star morphed into what we now know as LG. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  6. Gives new meaning to "Near-Field" listening!
  7. I understand what has and is happening, however, in my opinion the acknowledgement and changes they are implementing now should've been done sooner. Always room for improvement, even during a crisis. I second that question.
  8. Sounds like someone was asleep at the wheel, albeit for a short time. Good to hear this is being resolved immediately and meeting the standards of the Klipsch brand. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  9. I saw your listing and they look amazing. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  10. How would you describe the sound difference between a 2A3 and a 300b amp? Any other advantages or disadvantages to either? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  11. How does the Prima Luna Evo 400 compare to a SET amp and what made you go this route instead of SET? Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  12. I watched that video and another one he did on the Reisong Boyuu A50 MKIII. I also saw the A20 (https://www.amazon.com/REISONG-BOYUU-Intergrated-Amplifier-Single-end/dp/B07L5CRQ7T) on Amazon. Other than cost what are the differences between the A10, the A20 and the A50? I get that there are different tubes being used but what does that translate into as far as the end result?
  13. Just re-read this. I'll bet you were happy that your ex didn't take the La Scala's. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  14. Hi Jim! Hope you're doing well. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that one of the hk units were highly recommended. I'll look into your recommendation also. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
  15. Yes, they do have pre outs. Should I concentrate on improving the amplifier or the pre amp? Just trying to get the biggest bang for the buck like everyone else 😕
  16. Our experiences and paths are very similar. I'm a bit older than you and about 7 years ago I got the bug to try some vintage receivers to change things up and that was before I got the La Scala's a couple years ago. I too, have never tried tubes yet I read glowing (no pun intended) reviews from folks that have either used them for years or those that have recently begun the journey. So, I'm at the point where tubes are very real option for me, but which type, SET, PP, and there's so many tube numbers to understand🤔.
  17. Thanks henry! As far a SET integrated, would this be one to get started with and do you have other recommendations also, even if a bit more?
