  1. I thought this system was going to be the one to replace the quintets...oops. $4 grand? Geezah. I think I'd buy Reference 7 stuff for that price. JMHO.
  2. I'm an owner of the new 630. I am very pleased with this unit. Some people didn't like the change to their new silver front, but I think that is just eye-candy (plus I like the look!). Anyways, I'm very pleased with the unit, but can't tell ya if the difference between it and the 430 is worth the extra cost. I did not get a chance to test a 430. I watched two movies last weekend at a pretty substantial volume and the unit was only warm to the touch. I think it is very well quality built and you will be happy with either the 630 or 430.
  3. Well he's heard my 5 RF-3IIs with movies and such, but still thinks the acoustimass setup is probably better for the money. ::Shrugs::
  4. I admit my tone on the first sentence was not good, just a heated response that I have not made to him yet. Good to read it now, as I'm not so ticked off at his statements and will change it. No relationship to be salvaged, we talk all the time. Anyways, no he does not own Bose. He isn't even very interested in speakers. His response is to my posting on our own personal-friends forum, one of those Bose songs. He was saying that the anti-Bose only make up stupid songs about Bose because they have nothing to back it up that there are better speakers / better for your money. He made the statement a few months ago that once he gets a high paying job he'd really like to put in some Bose speakers...which immediately got heat from me . There was no reasoning behind his choice, just what he has been told. Bose = best. And I am pulling out my B.S. card on him... We argue a lot, even for the sake of just arguing. But we get along well and that's just the way it is. He won't take any of the bashing personally. Bash away!
  5. My friend stated: "It's obvious that there is no realistic problem with Bose speakers if the anti-bose can only critisize by inventing goofy songs and calling the company goofy things... It's kind-of like the people who are totally against Microsoft despite the fact that they really are the only option, instead of real critisism they make up goofy parodies, and call the company Micro$loth. You don't like Bose because they make too much money... not because they are an inferior product, just like the way you don't like Microsoft." How would you respond? He is SERIOUSLY pissing me off. I am wanting to respond with the following below, but wanted to see what you guys would have to say to his statement. "The first thing to learn, (name withheld), is not to put words in my mouth. Since you are, I'm going to tell you why I dislike the company. So it is fun to point and laugh and make jokes at Bose? With the ridiculousness that their marketing and their calling themselves the best speakers, who wouldn't when you know the truth? The anti-Bose are the pro-consumer. There IS a realistic problem because people have taken the time to actually look and test the speaker characteristics! To only sing songs and point and laugh would not be fair, but to have the proof to back it up makes it fine and is a REALISTIC pointing of the finger! Facts and figures...that's not just goofy songs!!! So your example is wrong. Unlike Microsoft, Bose is NOT the only option. I do not like Bose because they cheat consumers. They tell people that they are the best speakers and systems in the world. People assume they are getting the very best for their money when in fact they could get an equally sounding system for less than half (sometimes even a quarter!) of what they pay. Their 'proprietary technologies' are no technologies at all. It is all snake oil. >

One are the daily customers from best buy and circuit city, and the others are people like us that are a lil more serious when it comes to audio. klipsch was able to grasp the attention of everyday people that only knows about bose through its promedia series. In my opinion, i believe that their promedia series was so popular that Best Buy decided to market them through their stores. ---------------- I agree whole-heartedly. MY first set of Klipsch was the promedia 4.1's. When I decided to build a home theater system, I was immediately thinking of going to BB, but then decided to look online at Klipsch. Sure enough, they sold more than computer speaks .
  7. Hey Jim I see the second image you uploaded, but the first has some errors with it. Can you try again?

I mentioned Klipsch, and he had no idea what I was talking about. shows marketing plays a big part. ---------------- Oh, the same thing happened to me. I heard from the final-construction people at the new house across the street from me that the guy in there had some really great speakers. I'm a nice guy so I was going to go over and introduce myself anyways and be a good neighbor. The idea that he might have a really killer setup also made me want to go over there right away to hopefully get a peak. I eventually got over there and found out this 'really killer' system was the Acoustimass with the 5 tiny speaks. Whoever set it up didn't even set it up right, as the front 3 speakers were about 1 foot from each other and how the room was setup they were all to the left of the tv and about 8 feet higher than the tv...LOL! Anyways, they are nice people. Saw them yesterday and they were off to a movie. He said I should come over sometime to hear the 'lobby scene' from the Matrix. I said 'sure', because I'm curious to hear what those speaks can do with that scene. And then I might send him over to my house to hear it from my speaks .
  9. The debate of forgoing the manufacturer's warranty for a cheaper cost will continue forever. Some folks say go for the cheaper price and if a problem occurs, deal with the site you bought it from. I'm in the camp that says you get what you pay for and I like the idea of having a warranty in case something terrible happens. I am lucky that I bought my H/K 525Z from a reputable, authorized online dealer. The thing crapped out on me in October/November. Although it took nearly 2 months, H/K made up for it by upgrading me to a brand new 630. If I had bought the 525 from an unauthorized dealer, it might not have ever been fixed by the 'experienced' technician.

Yes, I noticed it too but didn't think to post it here on the forum! I busted out laughing. I guess that makes two of us that actually read some of the magazine?
  11. Yes I once had a case where UPS delivered to a street before my street since both streets had similar names and same set of house numbers. Thankfully I knew the neighbors personally (grew up with their son), and it was on their back porch for God knows why. Let us know what happened..
  12. I too am interested in seeing how you did this JM!

  16. Since I seem to be satisfied with my channel setup on my speakers, would it be a better bet to buy the Avia? I really would like to calibrate the picture on my tv away from the standard factory settings and try to get the most punch out of the picture as possible. Suggestions?
  17. The first thing I thought of was your front line up using the RB35's, but then saw the low WAF comment. Personally I think it is the fact that you might have become accustomed to way over-exaggerating the bass in the car. This is the first problem I had when moving on to home theater. I wasn't getting pounded left and right in the back of my seat. But now that I have given up on car audio (selling it all), I have really started to like the sound of my home theater system and think it generates a more accurate representation of bass. Anyways, that's just MHO. Let's see what other members might suggest. I have a feeling Ears will be in here to talk about an army of subsonic power of some sort .
  18. I am assuming you are asking which disk is better for speaker calibration? I personally do not know. Let's see what the forum has to say. Also, forum members, which disk would be best to calibrate a tv's picture?
  19. The first scene in the prison made me gasp. It looked EXACTLY like the ride at Disney World that I went on as a kid. "Here doggy..." Overall, it was an alright movie. Seemed to go a little bit too long, I won't add it to my library since I can always borrow it from the fam.
  20. Hey guys, You might remember my thread about my problem with my H/K AVR 525 refurb unit. H/K only wanted the receiver back (odd!), and so I have two remotes, power cord, and the radio tuner plastic-y two thin cords thing available. I'd rather just get rid of it all at once, but will divide it up if there is interest. I took the upmost care of the remotes, I knew the main remote was nearly $100 to replace new from the H/K website. Plus I didn't want to throw off the EZSet microphone at the tip of the remote! The second remote is the H/K II, used for the second room. I never used the H/K II. I am NOT SURE if any of the two remotes are specific just to the H/K AVR 525 or if it can be used by other H/K receivers, yet alone other brand receivers? If anyone is slightly interested, please PM me. I will be eventually putting on Ebay if not. I guess I like you guys too much .
  21. FINALLY --- The AVR 630 is on the UPS delivery truck today and on it's way to my house. About time H/K, you still suck!
  22. Is it really for your s/o or really just a "us" gift. Just kidding, lol.
  23. I am not sure if I am reading you right...but you might not want this wire if you are going in-wall with it. I do not see a UL approved rating on it. I got my 12 guage in-wall wire from Parts Express. It's only about 35 - 40 mins from my house. I believe it was called "Carol" and was about $20 for 50 feet. Was particularly made for in-wall use and works great.
  24. Immediately I was thinking, "Oh no, now we are going to have the forum shut down for a while again..." but this is great. LOL.

Is Rasling for Red Necks or White Trash? ---------------- You might want to add "college-educated" to that list so I can fit in. I have never liked the stigmatism attached to liking pro wrestling. Granted whenever I go to a wrestling event I do feel out of place at times, I just remember we are all there for the same reason...the love of the "sport". I think Mick Foley summed up wrestling best when he said the real world is faker than wrestling.
