  1. That's how I always hooked mine up. Tape in/out and use the Tape monitor button.
  2. Good enough reason to get one. I had a 12 band Technics when I was younger and the DBX 231 more recently. I prefer the 31 band EQ as it gives me more options. I don't find it complicated as you don't have to use all of them, but it does give you the option. Also it's great for learning which frequencies affect which parts of your music. You have the option to experiment a bit. My JBL Pros came with a frequency response chart which I corrected with the EQ as my base line and then corrected it for room response and personal preference from there. Great way to learn and have some fun.
  3. Also what kind of system will you be using it with? And any particular reason you feel you need an EQ?
  4. Had the same issue with my Onkyo. There was a room issue causing a suck out or phase problem. I repositioned the speakers and problem solved.
  5. i had a DBX 231 which I used with some JBL Pro speakers. I highly recommend it. Perfect for fine tuning your frequency response and room issues. It also sounded great.
  6. They are prone to wear and tear. I talked (conned) my dad into upgrading his Pioneer R2R to a new Revox. What a beautiful machine. Unfortunately his older tapes, about 10 to 12 years old, started shedding their magnetic residue/particles and depositing them on the tape heads like glue. Almost impossible to clean off. We lived in the tropics at the time, Australia and Curacao in the Caribbean. Climate was probably a factor. this was in the 70s and 80s.
  7. Honestly if you can't hear the difference between some cables, then there is something wrong with your ears or maybe your hearing is going due to age. (It happens.) At the risk of starting another endless cable debate, here is my experience. I had a bedroom system, NAD 325BEE, ShanLing CD T80 CD player and Paradigm Monitor 7 V4. I was having a problem with a room mode causing booming bass at around 50-60Hz. Tried everything, positioning, etc, even put a sock in the ports which reduced bass but also killed dynamics. I replaced the thin gauge OFC wires with Audioquest Type 6 wires which made the bass problem much worse. No fault of the wire. Wires do make a difference. I gave up, sold the Paradigms and bought two JBL JRX 225 which solved the bass problem. I also A/B'ed a Kimber interconnect and a Van Den Hull (forget the model names) and the Van Den Hull was noticeably warmer sounding. My favorite speaker cable is still the Kimber 8TC and 4PR and I had some Audioquest Slates which also sounded good on my B&Ws. Cables can make a difference and do affect the sound in some way.
  8. I've always been a big fan of Kimber Kable. Had some AudioQuest cables too and they were great also. They do make a difference in sound.
  9. Let us know what you think after running them for a while.
  10. Ziet er niet slecht uit (Doesn't look too bad.)
  11. WalMart's average margin is 29% at store level. The Sony Store 35% on regular hifi and up to 45% on some ES stuff. Speakers have 100%.
  12. One wire is all that is necessary. Make sure you don't mix up the polarity. Positive and negative or red and black.
  13. I have those speakers but am using an Onkyo TX RZ 810. It sounds detailed, analytical and revealing. Overall I find it a very well balanced sound. In my room which has tile floors, glass sliding doors and glass coffee table there is a 1 or 2 db peak in the 4 to 7 khz area only noticable when I play some violin classical musical. Bass is well controlled and overall sounds great.
  14. On my RP 260Fs with Onkyo TX RZ810 all my music is played in Pure Direct mode. My room is about one or two db hot in the 4 to 7khz area due to tile flooring, glass coffee table and glass sliding doors. Only noticable on some violin passages with classical music. Didn't notice this in the carpeted show room where I auditioned them. So I'm blaming the room for now. Otherwise sounds very balanced with all other music and movies which I also play in Pure Direct. As most people here have stated room modes and reflections have a huge impact on sound. I'm going to buy another Klipsch home theater for my other place and will try a Denon receiver and see how it affects the sound. Had a NAD and B&W sysytem that sounded great flat. The key is auditioning plenty of systems and combinations before you buy.
  15. Our cat used to catch these meter long black snakes all the time when we lived in Florida. And then, as all cats do, bring them home.
  16. You see poison and ex wives, I see snake liquor (yes, the one with the curled up snake in the bottle) and snake soup. Probably been expatting (it's a verb now) too long in South East Asia. Oh, and I drank snake venom too mixed with the local rice moonshine, fresh from the fangs. Good for your manly hood apparently.
  17. I had two NAD amps, 752 Receiver and 320BEE. Loved both of them. the 752 drove B&W 600 series in a 5.1 set up and the 320BEE drove two JBL JRX 215 (Horn tweeter and 2 x 15 inch woofers, 4 Ohms). The fact that it could drive those speakers well speaks volumes for NAD's conservative power ratings. NAD amps sound fast, strong but controlled bass and have excellent timing. And they are not bright but also not overly warm. Great amps.
  18. Had a set of JBL JRX 215 (yeah, yeah, I know) in my bedroom and used a DBX 231 Equalizer to flatten the frequency response of said speakers as a base line. And then adjusted by ear for room correction. Result was outstanding. Components were a Shanling CD T80 and NAD 320BEE. Kimber RCA and Monster 1/4 inch interconnects and AudioQuest speaker cables. So yes, I like it ruler flat. Big difference from when I was a teenager though and put two smiley faces on my 12 Band Technics equalizer. Yes, Technics. Back in the 80s when they were AWESOME.
  19. Bass dead point may be tough to deal with as moving your speakers doesn't seem to be a WAF option. Have you tried different positioning within your confines? Toe in or out can have a noticeable effect on bass in some rooms. Also pulling/pushing them in our out may have an effect. Do I detect a Dutchman with those Delft Blue houses and porcelain? Hard to see in the pic.
  20. Beautiful room. Is it a stone floor? If you go with a raised platform I'd be sure to make it solid and place the speakers in such a way that there is no interaction between the speakers and a wooden platform or shelving. Spikes or something to decouple them from the platform. Raising them is a nice option as they are somewhat lower than ear level. Keep us updated.
  21. Another two things you can try: 1) Positioning of speakers relative to the wall can make a noticeable difference. Both the angle and the distance. 2) I once bought an Audioquest 6+ solid copper cable, quite thick gauge, and the bass on my Paradigm Monitor 7s was overbearing. Changed back to Kimber 4PRs and it was reduced. The gauge of wire may have an effect as well. I have 260Fs right now and in my room the bass is excellent.
  22. I have the Onkyo TX RZ810 and had a similar problem. There is a room issue where I was getting some cancellation effects and the mic wasn't picking up the left front speaker. Try moving the mic just a little or try mounting it on something different. Also try moving the speakers a bit. After numerous tries it worked but I didn't like the results. I finally set it up by myself using my own ears and repositioning the speakers.
  23. I was out of the HiFi scene for a number of years due to being in China. Been surviving off a Samsung Home Theater in a box. Not bad for the money actually. But finally decided on a modest upgrade. I previously had a B&W 603S2 home theater set up (over nine years ago in Canada) and was surprised how good these Klipsch RP 260Fs sounded. Very analytical and balanced sound for the money. I hear many things on them that I didn't hear on the B&Ws. Nothing beats horns in my opinion.
  24. It's scary how many people buy into their marketing. Let it be a lesson in the power of Propaganda.
