  1. I get tired of it quite often... and I am especially tired of it right now. Things just aren't looking my way. Maybe I'll have a massive gear sale of everything I own soon... I miss the "old days" of being happy and loving the sound of a simple setup, or even of my ProMedia 5.1's (the first Klipsch speakers I bought). Now, everyone's reviews and such has filled my head with poor thoughts about my system and all I want to do is upgrade. Yet, everytime I do, I get screwed. I think I need out.
  2. Hmm... Issue resolved... not exhausted today (I was running on little sleep yesterday)... Amp is working... back to normal here.
  3. That doesn't sound very good... I now have electronics problems of my own. I picked up my Class A amp and it appears that one channel is not running Class A... In fact, I don't even think the output transistors are running at all. The left channel heatsink is not even warm- it is COLD, actually. The right channel is hot as heck (as it should be). Also, the left channel runs about 30 seconds after power off, while the right dies after 3 or so. If anyone knows a cause of my problem... I'd be interested to know. I am perplexed (and QUITE sad) right now.
  4. The receiver should be fixable. Does Carver put their schematics in the service manuals/owner's manuals? If so, that would make the situation much easier- you could track down the foul component. It is most likely an old transistor or resistor that has seen the last of its days after heatink up repeatedly for years. How old is the unit? If it is several years old, I'd probably track down a replacement transistor and replace them all. Also get some new resistors in there (mainly just the large, high power resistors for setting bias and such). Replace any other resistors, transistors, etc. that look charred. Also, if the unit is 10+ years old, you might as well replace the electrolytic caps while you're in there. And, if you decide, after all, that you don't want to try to save this guy, you might consider sending it up to me... I probably have some parts on hand a;ready. Even though I may not have the time or money to do it either now [:S]... (Just bought a new Class A power amp that may need the same treatment) Hope this helps
  5. What are you asking for the LF-10? Condition?
  6. I stumbled upon this at Parts Express last weekend while taking a break from constant work. It looks to be well built, kind of looks like most people's Class AB/Class A DIY amps from DIYAudio. I am not one to enjoy taking a huge risk, so I thought I might ask if anyone has had any experience with these amps or similar amps. I've been considering getting one for 2-channel, since my receiver leaves a little to be desired in the power and clarity departments. I've heard good things about Behringer. This amp seems to have plenty of dynamic power for what I'd need (I usually hang around under 1W to the speakers...) and it looks nice to boot. Let me know if anyone has had any experience with these things. Perhaps it can be modded ever-so-slightly to include a couple more exotic caps and resistors or maybe even modified to run Class A on the output. I've been doing the amp-building thing for a while now and am really tired of it. It is much simpler to buy something already built. Well, here it is: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=248-749&raid=25&rak=248-749 http://www.behringer.com/A500/index.cfm?lang=ENG
  7. Have they changed up those ion tweeters yet? I thought the first couple of ones produced made so much ozone that it would kill you if you were closed up in a room with the speakers for an extended period of time...
  8. Yes... I think I should have gotten Images and Words first. I was about to buy it, but saw Scenes from a Memory and thought I'd take it instead (I had only heard the horrible quality sound clips from the Best Buy website). It is good, but just not what I was expecting. I'll have to put Images and Words on the list of things to get...
  9. I finally hit answering machine some time ago, but I really want the "In Need of Therapy" title (and the how-many-thousands of posts it comes with?)...
  10. Hey, while we're on the subject of old logos, does anyone have scans of the old (70's-ish) Lord of the Rings promo t-shirts? I saw a Frodo one for sale on eBay once, but missed the end of the auction... I heard that there were others in the collection as well. Any photos by chance?
  11. Do you already have the 10" version of this sub, though? If so, you are already familiar with the basic sound, so I wouldn't expect miracles if I were you. For the money, though, it would probably be a pretty good value, since you can't really buy a 12" sub that cheap from any retailer. I suppose if you ran the 10" and 12" together you might come out pretty well.
  12. I was wondering about the Sony SACD player. I've seen it several times in Best Buy and Circuit City and have been wanting to pick one up, but haven't ever seen much info about it. Is it a decent player? None of my electronic gear is particularly high-end, so it wouldn't really hurt to have a $130 SACD player... I have heard mixed reviews of the Pioneer 578, which I have been considering previously. But, I received an Onkyo DVD player as a gift from my parents, so I don't really want to replace it in any respect by having a multi-format machine.
  13. I have heard a lot about Dream Theater and its members so I decided to pick up this CD. It is, umm, a tad strange; totally not what I had been expecting. I have always heard how blindingly fast Petrucci is on the guitar, and we barely get any of this in this CD. I am not really dissapointed, but it is not what I expected. Should I have gotten a different CD of theirs to start with instead (though it is a bit late now)? I am just wondering what others have to say about this CD and their other works...
  14. I never would have bought the KLF-30's if I hadn't been thoroughly impressed with their performance, particularly in the bass department. They have a massive slam and plenty of low bass extension. Many times I forget to turn on my sub amp and never notice that its gone. A VERY marked improvement over the RF-3's I was previously using. And, I am not so sure that the KLF series is too picky about placement; they work very well in my room, which is not very acoustically friendly. I've never heard the KG-5.5, CF-4, KLF-20, or Cornwalls, though, so it is not technically fair for me to vote... If it matters, I have had experience with the KG-2.5's, which can sound pretty good if placed properly in a good corner.
  15. You should try calling the Klipsch ProMedia support line at 1-888-554-5665, or email Amy at promediatech@klipsch.com. They should get you fixed up.
  16. Headphone amps generally will make the headphones sound MUCH better from any source. You get a more full sound with powerful bass, warmer mids, and cleaner highs. Most headphone outputs on CD players and receivers are very under-engineered and are basically a "last minute add-on" kind of thing. The circuit and parts used in the circuit leave much to be desired... You should be able to wire a headphone jack to the taps on the Magnavox SE amps. I've done a little research into OTL tube amps, but not transformer-coupled amps for headphone use, so I am not sure which tap would be best. Taking a guess, I'd say you could probably use just about any tap and get great results, though.

    Logic7 in HK?

Hmm, you bring up a good point that slipped my mind. I am not sure if the chips inside of each will be the same or similar, but can tell you that there is a huge price difference. I happened upon Lexicon processors by accident and have been wanting one ever since, but they are way out of my audio budget. The top of the line HK is only around (or a little over) $1000. If the main processors and D/A converters, etc. are close to the same, it may be much more cost effective to buy HK. I'll investigate further into data sheets if I can...
  18. I paid $900 for mine... that hurt at the time, but even moreso now that I realize I'll NEVER get the money back out of them. I hate losing money... $700 is a good price, and they are even oak (mine are black).
  19. If I recall correctly, the KLF-30's in that picture are actually the guy's rear surrounds...

The wiring diagram also shows the low-speed fan as a 5-pin and the high-speed as a 4-pin. I'll look at both of them to compare. I'm planning on heading out to try to locate a replacement relay soon...
