  1. Welcome back Craig. When is the big fish fry?
  2. I have been listening to the Heresys with the HK430 for a while. I BIG improvement over the Outlaw. I tried a crazy experiment - I hooked up one Heresy to my restored KLH Model 8 tube radio and listened to some FM. Wow! Superb! What is it about tubes that makes these speakers sound so warm yet clear? Now I must start the hunt for a tube amp. Any ideas for something reasonably priced (around $200) or should I consider spending more? Milton10, You will need too spend a tad more than 200 bucks too get a nice tube unit that been rebuilt and up to speck. If you go the vintage route it will take about $200 to $ 300 just too buy a used Scott intergrated tube amp or a fisher one and and then it will need too be rebuilt to get it too sound good and be reliable. Best bet is maybe another forum member might have a scott tube amp for sale that Craig has already rebuilt than you would be set too go. Figure at least about 500 bucks or a tad more too get you something in the vintage intergrated tube amp lineup that will make you happy.
  3. Sounds like a great time Sheltie, I got it on my calander and hopefully will make it, I am only one hour away and its been a year since I been too your place. All this equipment will be unbeilivable to see and listen too.
  4. Craig you and your family will be in my prayers.
  5. I have 84 k-horns I bought them new and for some reason they never came with anything on them too seal the tail piece. So I used 3/8" pipe insulation works perfect no glue needed, I did the tail pieces and the top of the bass bin section. Made a big diffence in the bass department for me. If your k-horns or not sealed too the walls you are most likely losing out on some bass, it was a night and day difference on mine.
  6. WOW, I fell lucky, took me over a year but I got a very nice HK-430 on ebay for 30 bucks and $20 too ship. It was dity has heck but after about 2 hours of cleaning it looks like new.
  7. Glad you liked the walnut cabinet JJ, makes my day when I make a Klipsch forum member happy. Enjoy your cabinet ALAN.
  8. 2 Telefunken ECC83 which I think goes to the Jolida cd player? But might also go in the Scott? 4 ??? I didn't write it down cuz there was writing on the tubes. Now I see it doesn't say much. OTK and random numbers. I'll have to email and find out what these are. Russian? They are taller than the 2 Telefunkens. They are power tubes for the scott? Meagain. the scott 299 takes 11 tubes total they are four 12ax7 tubes for the preamp section, two 6bl8 phase inverter tubes, four 7591 output tubes and one 5ar4 rectifier tube. Craig will most likly use russian tubes for the 7189 output tubes in your 299 tube amp. NOS factory 7189 output tubes would run over 100 dollars a quad set where the russian 7189 are about 40 dollers a quad set. Of couse maybe you are lucky and the output tubes in your 299 are still good. Telefunken 12ax7 tubes are very high, figure 125 for a good quad, maybe higher. You could always go with JJ Telsa 12ax7 electro harmonic 12ax7 or many other aftermarker brands that will only run about 40 to 50 bucks a quad set and sound really good.
  9. My does that Marantz receiver look nice. OH great subs too at what looks to be a great price, wish I needed a sub for my HT but I already have one. Good luck selling the subs Im sure they will find a good home.
  10. Thanks a million Paul for the measurement, looks like my cabinet will clear the bottom cover screws. Maybe one of these days I will get lucky and find a bottom cover for my X-100 and a good looking faceplate. If not I just might get a whole different unit and sell this one. Wish I would have bought that KX-100 that was on Craigs websight a while back for 400 bucks that was a buy. The price of these tube amps are going up all the time, I paid 175 for this ugly one and it needs a total rebuild it has a hum out of both channels but what the heck at least it does work.
  11. Paul turn that fisher X-100 of yours upside down and measure the bottom cover from one side too the other and make sure too include those screws that hold the bottom cover in place in your measurement , I need too clear those screws with my cabinet. Thanks for the help Paul.
  12. Paul yes I did build a fisher cabinet months ago and am kinda stuck on trying too find a bottom cover for my fisher X-100. Dang thing never came with one when I got it. Anyway, made my own bottom cover to get by and built a prototype cabinet for it. Here is a picture of it. If I could get a bottom cover measurement from you it would help me a bunch on knowing if my cabinet will work or not I am almost 99.9%n sure it will but wont sell a cabinet untill I know for sure.
  13. Man I love ebay, buy the heck out of stuff and save a lot of money. Just beware of big buck items thats were you could get taken. I think the most exspensive item I bought was about 250 dollars. I would never send money over 500 bucks without knowing the seller real well . BEC that is amazing 100% feedback with 1320 sales, hats off too you thats incredable. So far I have 110 sales and buys on ebay and have 100% feedback to go over 1000 like you did takes dedication and hard work .
  14. Joshnich, for some reason I thought that guy that also makes scott cabinets was from Canada and not France, but I could be wrong, I think I found a link too his websight not for sure though. http://www.tubeaudio.ca/Cabinets/index.htm
  15. Hi Guys, I make the scott cabinets that quite a few people on the forum have bought (Thanks guys) and I also sell them on ebay also. I am from Missouri, I might have some french in me thow. LOL. Doublej and J.4knee I have one walnut cabinet ready too go a a couple of oak cabinets also. Here is a picture of the walnut cabinet. Its a beauty. I'll get intouch with you two.
  16. Try one of these vintage receivers, Harmon Kardon 430,630 or 730, they go from 50 to about 125 bucks depending on model and condition, you just cant go wrong with one of these for the money and if you decide too sell you will get your investment back. Another nice receiver is a sansui 7070, 8080, 9090 they will cost you more though, especially the 8080 or 9090,you might get a 7070 in the 100 to 125 dollar range though if you are lucky. Also the pioneer SX-780 can be bought for around 75 to a hundred bucks and it is a nice choise also. A pioneer SX-980 a little more power than the SX-780 is a nice receiver but will cost in the 150 dollar range.
  17. Mike I run telefunfen 12ax7 in the preamp section, an ampex bugal boy 5ar4, JAN phillips 6u8a phase inverter tubes, and Russian 6n14n-eb (7189) output tubes. I cant tell much difference changing any of the tubes except for the 12ax7, I think this is where most tube rolling will do you the most good. I really never tryed any different output tubes thow because a set of NOS 7189 will run about 100 bucks, too rich for my blood right now.
  18. Mike here is a picture of my scott 299a with the new cans that Craig put in awhile back.
  19. Man I didnt know the shure cartridge prices were going threw the roof or is it just the shure type 3? I have a shure V15 TYPE 5 MR brand new in the box. When I bought my Shure ulta D-6000 CD player (way back when) shure was giving away a free V15 TYPE 5 MR cartridge with the purchase of their cd player, thats how I got it. Never did use it, looks like it could be better than money in the bank if prices keep going up on ebay.
  20. Mike looks like you have a scott 299a second version like mine. Looks like somebody replaced a couple of the factory cans with taller ones. When Craig rebuilt my scott 299a he replaced 3 cans on it, the 2 in the back and the one in the middle up front. He left the 2 up front on the right alone, he said they rarly go bad. Anyway the replacement cans on mine are black ,about factory size and maby a tad bit smaller. They say JJ on them, I think they are a JJ TELSA CANS. They look good and sound very good, they have a tad bit more bass than the factory cans. I have the original cans and they are still good that came out of my 299a, I only replaced them because of reliability reasons, I figured if I am getting the amp rebuilt might as well replace the 40 year old cans.Anyway get ahold of Craig and see where he got the cans. For some reson I think he might have got them from tubesandmore.com, I really cant remember for sure. Wife is gone for a couple of days and took the digital camera or I would post a picture of the cans, will do so wedsday when she gets back.
  21. BEC, take off the top and bottom covers there are a lot of fuses under there if I remember right when I cleaned the pots on my HK-430. Maybe one is bad, wont take but another 5 minutes too find out. If it aint a fuse well I guess it needs a teck and that I aint.
  22. Mike, that Sansui G-8000 is beautifull, I just love those older vintage receivers. I need too post a picture sometime of my Sansui G-7700, bought it new and its in mint condition, I think its one of the best looking receivers ever made.
  23. You not going to accomplish a thing but make a big mess by taking the knobs off and spraying deoxit on the shaft. You have to take the case or cabinet off the unit and also the bottom cover to get too the main parts of the pots too clean them. After taking off the top and bottom covers move the volume controll back and forth and watch real closely for movement inside the pot, there should be gaps or small holes in the volume pot, you will most likely see a small metel peace that moves around while you turn the volume knob. This is what you want too spray your deoxit on all the gaps and holes where this movement takes place. Give it a good shot off deoxit and move the volume controll about 50 times back and forth. Do this too all the controlls. Make sure the unit is unpluged will doing this, after unit sits a few hours fire it up.
  24. Oh no I bought my daughter an ipod for christmass I got too show her this tube amp for it, she will get a kick out of this. 500 bucks, wow too rich for my blood but man is it cute.
  25. Rplace, I think the person who was bought up on fixing vintage solid state equipment was a guy that hangs out on the audiokarma.org websight. He goes by the name of EchoWars. Everyone at audiokarma brags on his work. I myself have never had him work on any of my stereo equipment yet but if something went wrong on my vintage solid state receivers I would look his way. I think he is from the midwest somewere.
