  1. Im going to get some pictures of the refoaming job I did on a friends set of radio shack mach one speakers. It could take a good while for me to finish this thread lots of pictures so be patient.
  2. Niles makes a amplifier switch that I think will do what you want. IT is the NILES DPS-1. If you do a search you can find info on it.
  3. Man that really sucks, heck you have insurance and have too use it so get all you can out of everything that has any damage at all, new speaker wire and cables if they got wet, water and electricity dont mix. Id be woried about the speakers did any water get above the risers for sure? Heck they might replace your speakers it dont hurt to ask. Really anything that got wet I would try and replace it they worst they can say is no.
  4. That was it. I did that the last time and they tightened up, but after a while, and without handling them, they start to droop again. Does anyone else have this happen? I have 2 sets of quintets and the same problem they love too droop if handled. Just tighten up the allen screws and you should be alright till the next time just dont overtighten are you could end up havening a perment droop problem.
  5. Try unpluging the unit and pluging it back into its power souce. Had a tv and a few other electrical stuff including a turntable that for some stupid reason it worked again after I unpuged it and pluged it back in, why this worked I havent a clue. Also check the preout main in jumpers on back of the receiver did they come loose or are they dirty. If this doesnt work and no fuses are blown looks like the HK will need a teck.
  6. Im a miner and live in Missouri.
  7. I am still using my Scott 299a and its playing well.Im not really planing on replaceing it with anything else as of now, I have had it for two years this month and am very happy with it.Seems the Scott hipe has died down somewhat on the forum the past few months, dont even see as many up for grabs on ebay as there was in the past. Sounds like you might need to clean those tube sockets on your 299a that might be your problem.Glad to see you back on the forum again.
  8. Thanks Arfz, went to audiokarma and was wandering around and read up on the problem.Same sugestions as you are recomending. Have checked the 2 fuses also since then bringing them to a total of 8 and all are good. Will check resistors R33 and R34(?)will go back and make sure these are the ones and replace if necessary. Supposed to be 150 ro 180 and if they are over 200 replace. Also recomended to recap but this isn't mine and I don't believe my friend would want to go to all that expense. again thanks to all, Randy Randy the 2 resistors that were bad are marked R33 and R34 on the driver board they are at the bottom of the driver board. They are 1/4watt x 180 OHM resistors. I replaced them with 1/2watt x 180 OHM resistors that is what a guy on audiokarma said to do. Randy I have plenty extra 1/2 watt x 180 ohm resistors if you need a couple let me know I will send you a few for free.
  9. I fixed a 9090DB with the same problem as you have with the 9090. IT needed two resistors replaced on the driver board (its the board that stands vertical and is held in place with a bracket near the back of the unit) one resistor was open and another one was out of tolerance. This protection light flashing red is a common problem with the sansui 9090 and 9090db recievers. If you are lucky this might be a simple and very jeep fix. I dont know for sure if the 9090 and the 9090db have the same driver boards or not thow. Also take the bottom cover off and check the two fuses on the protection board make sure they are good. Some models have fuses there on that board and some dont have any fuses at all from what I hear. Good luck, hope you can get the 9090 up and running.
  10. Nice score Ken you are one lucky dude too pick a set of klipsch chorus up for $100. What you need now is a good tube amplifier to power them with.
  11. I collect picture disc also, not a very big collection but have about 30 nice ones. I always loved the looks of the picture discs, neet as heck. A lot of people didnt even know they were made. I have some beatles, kiss, molly hatchet, meatloaf and many others. I never have found a websight either dedicated to picture disc, hope somebody knows of a websight out there also.I need to score a paul stanly solo picture disc yet and then I will have all for of the kiss groups solo picture disc. These seem to bring up to 50 bucks a piece if unopened and in mint condition, perty costly compared to most picture disc.
  12. Frzninvt, How do you like the ak3 compared to the ak2 that you replaced? What sound difference did the crossover change make? I have 84 k-horns with the ak2 crossovers.
  13. Electro harmonics sells a 7591 output tube but they are bigger than the factory 7591 tubes and most likly the factory cover on your scott tube amp wont fit with them in place they are to tall. JJ telsa has come out with a brand new 7591 tube and I hear they are close to the same size as a factory 7591 tube.I hear that people really like them, I have a scott 299a with the 7189 tubes so I cant comment on the sound of the new JJ 7591 tubes. I think Craig can get these JJ 7591 at a good price you might want to talk to him about it.Also I think somebody on ebay is selling the JJ 7591 ALSO.
  14. I dont know really if thier is a big difference in tube break in or not, I really woulndt wory about it. I think after warming up the tube amp for about 1/2 an hour or more before listening to it it sounds better, maybe my imagination or just plain believing that it tube amp needs to be warmed up. I think after about 50 to 100 hours on your new tubes they should be broken in, if their is a difference in sound from new let your ears decide.
  15. Thanks for the help guys. It looks like most people use the gun with the record on the turntable and use the gun on the record 3 or 4 times.About how far away should I hold the gun from the album? Instuctions on the box of the gun says about 12 inches, is this right or should I hold the gun closer to the record? Thanks all
  16. Can some of you Zerostat owners tell me the proper way of using this zerostat pistol for my albums? I just got one delived to me from ebay it is a used pistol. It has the original box and has some little bulb with a wire on it(the box that is) and I tried it out like the instuctions on the box says and it does light the bulb up so I guess the pistol is working. Should I lay the record down on a towel or something and then hold the gun a few inches from it and then slowly pull the trigger or handle on the pistol? Can I hold the record in my hand and use the pistol or will it shock me? Will it hurt just to leave the album on the turntable and use the pistol or will this be a no no? I will wait for some answers before I use this thing dont wont to hurt the gun or my turntable. THANKS ALL.
  17. Dman said. I would work on the listening environment before I worried about doing this mod. Why muck up a perfectly good set of horns if you don't have to? Foam-rubber sealant (like door seals, etc.) eventually rots and will muck up the finish as well as your walls. No way this pipe insulation will rot. This is a must do for k-horns to get the most posible bass out of them they need to be sealed to the walls it makes a difference believe me. I used the 3/8 inch pipe insulation its a brease to install no glue needed or any nails or staples.
  18. Would love to have a SX-1980 to add to my vintage receiver collection its a monster. A nice one will bring big bucks like $1000 or more THATS WHY I AINT GOT ONE DANG THE BAD LUCK.Do you know were one is and are you going to get it? I never heard A sx-1980 myself but have heard its younger brothers the SX-780 and SX-980 and they sounded nice not quite as well as tubes but I am not going to bring that up LOL. Pioneer also made a SX-1280 I think it put out about 185 WPC.
  19. I already replaced one that was noisy at start up. It made a scratchy noise through the speaker as it warmed up, while the bias jumped around a bit. After it warmed up it ran fine. STRABO, Make sure the tube pins are nice and clean as well as the tube sockets. The noise you here might be from a bad connection of the tube within the tube socket. Some caig dexoit should do the trick as far as cleaning. Use some 400 grit sandpapper on the tube pins that will clean them up nice.
  20. Mark what brand output tubes were you running in the scott 299 before you tried the jj el-84 tubes?
  21. Do you think I will get a noticeable difference soundwise with Khorns? I am currently powering LaScala's with these monoblocs. My listening room is approximately 24' X 40'. Should I step up woth the big dogs and go Khorns? No doubt about it the k-horns with two good corners to put them in and a nice size room like you have I would jump on the chance to get a set of k-horns. I had a pair of la scalas for years and up grated to k-horns 20 years ago and never looked back.
  22. Man that is one perty scott 299d. Scott must have made more than one model 299d. I thought that all the Scott 299d came with a powered center channel, this one here does not have it as far as I can tell.Anybody have any input on this?
  23. Congratulations on the KHorns Gary. First thing I would do would be to seal those khorns to the wall you will be pleased with the results, better bass and it kind of adds more detail to the midrange. This is a must do for every khorn owner in my books.
  24. Michael, what you have descibed above is exactly what I thought it would take to get to that volume level. By The time you put that many watts into the cornwalls to get to 129db it most likly destroy the corwalls, and a persons hearing. It is really amazing thow how little power it takes to get the klipsch heritage speakers to play loud. I have a scott 299a powering a set of k-horns and at half volume on the scott it will rock the house and it is only rated at 17 watts per channel.
  25. Wow those k-horns gorgous, very nice work.
