Start by getting the serial numbers. Next, make sure all three drivers (x2) are operational. If they're not hooked into a system, use a AA battery. When scratching the leads on the battery terminal, you should hear scratching from the squawker and tweeter and a thud from the woofer. Stuff a rag in the squawker to confirm that you hear scratching from the tweeter. They're worth what you (or someone else) are willing to pay for them. With serial numbers and photos, forum regulars can provide some guidance.

Reloading the photo in the avatar now makes the car appear red when using MS IE or Firefox. But, go to the following link while using IE and the car is again blue. The other car at the link is actually blue and yellow as seen using Firefox.

Thanks Bruce. I'll save those figures for future reference. Do you still have the HK430? You got the better of the two. The one I kept dropped a channel. Perhaps it's a fuse or cleaning issue, but it sits silent until I've nothing better to do.

Extremely beautiful. I wish I had the time, resources, patience and skill to come close to that. When I restored beater La Scalas for a high school band room, I took the function over form route (see link below). The slot porting with adjustable shelf is very intriguing. As to your assumption that your calculations regarding slot and shelf size equate to round port diameter and length, it make sense to me, but I would defer to djk and others. In any case, you can experiment until it sounds best to you, then let the theoreticians and techno-snobs be damned. Your comments about a rear facing bass bins are also interesting. Please let us know how that works. The acid test is how it sounds to you, but I suspect that too much high frequency sound comes out of the bass bin to sound right bouncing off the wall. You might be onto something like La Scala 901s. I’ll be curious to read about your experiments with porting. From my experiments, I would do it to any La Scala that I owned. While it doesn’t contain a link to every post about ported La Scalas, it’s hits most of them (you’ve probably seen them already). Ported La Scalas?

Greg, I'm not being facetious, but I think what you're describing is Jubilee.

So far four Forum members have asked for, and been sent, the bass test Mp3 file. I encourage the recipients to report their experiences using the test to the rest of us.

The avatar reminds me of The Wizard of Oz scenes where the horse keeps changing colors. As near as I can figure, it's something to do with Microsoft Internet Explorer. You know how MS forces updates on you and the next thing you know other programs won't run correctly. For months the car appeared blue when using a PC but remained red when using a laptop. Today is the first time it's been blue while using the laptop. Perhaps if I reload the avatar it will bring the red back permanently. It's not even an attractive shade of blue. EDIT @ 9:27 AM (EST) After opening Firefox and reconnecting to the Klipsch Forum, the avatar is again red. That somewhat unscientific experiment strongly suggests that the IE browser is the culprit. In my copious free time this holiday season I'll reload the photo to see if I can trick IE into allowing the car to remain red, especially during the holiday season.

You've already been provided with a list of the usual suspects for road testing a new HT. As to excellent films you might have overlooked, I recommend the following: David Mamet's The Spanish Prisoner, starring Steve Martin (not a comedy), Campbell Scott, Ben Gazarra, Ricky Jay, Rebecca Pidgeon and Ed O'Neill. and The World's Fastet Indian, starring Anthony Hopkins. I've never known of anyone who didn't enjoy them. They must be out there, but they're too busy watching "stuff get blowed up real good" to express an opinion.

As the year draws to a close I ran across this and thought it might be useful to test your new toys found under the tree. The bump confirms that It's been posted before , but to many it will be new. It's still not attachable to a post in this forum, but feel free to send an email or PM and I'll try to send it to you via email. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but it seems about right when I listen to it through various speakers. The single driver rear horns drop off rapidly below 100 Hz and the KEF B139 transmission line subs shake the house at 30 Hz. I've yet to try it with the djk inspired bass reflex modified La Scalas. Welcome to the Forum Bill. Stephens Tru-Sonic woofers were used in early some Klipschorns. I've never seen the driver/horn combination shown in your photos in a Klipsch product.

Which one has the Stephens Tru-Sonic, the '54 or the '56? You should not notice any difference in sound from the woofers. The tweeters are another story.

Michael, The top hats are in the extended cab. We decided to remove them to make it easier to navigate the bass bins through the front door. Tom called @ 8:36 PM EDT to report a safe arival. After he drafts a buddy to help unload the Khorns he'll post something. He's eager to open the bass bins to see which woofers are in there. I'm hoping they're Stephens Tru-Sonics. No truck stop meat loaf on this trip. As I recall it, you were the brave soul who tried the meat loaf special at that truck stop in Fort Wayne. I forget what I ordered. Actually, we were so rushed to meet Tom at Nancy's at 1:00 PM that we didn't have lunch until it was over.

My son, Scott, and I enjoyed meeting Tom and helping him load the Khorns for their trip from Hockeytown to that other place. Watch this space for Tom's tale of the trip.

The loading process was difficult enough, before the neighbor decided to turn on the sprinklers. Apparently we were touching his lawn while we loaded the truck. Aren't you glad you don't live next door to that guy?

Nancy constantly reminded us to not bump her newly painted walls as we wrestled the bass bins through the house and out the front door.

The trip is approximately 5 hours, but I'll let Tom fill in the specifics. He left here about 3:00 Pm. When I spoke with him a few minutes ago he was outside Youngstown, OH and reported good weather and no problems. Nancy (the seller) and her mother, Wanda, frequently offered their opinions that Tom should've rented a van or enclosed trailer. At times, he seemed to agree. Nevertheless, if he doesn't encounter any rain, they should arrive safely, notwithstanding the open pickup.
