  1. This thread reminds me of callers to Dr. Laura's radio program (or similar call-in shows) who are surprised when Dr. Laura (or similar hosts) reams them a new one. Don't the caller's listen to the programs and hear what is said to other callers with similar problems? G. Kennedy's comments are spot on.
  2. Unless I'm missing something, he connected both leads to the "shiny penny" which would cause the "system" to see a dead short when the 1/8" phone plug is plugged in and the system is powered. Under that scenario, the sound you would hear could well be the sound of your system self destructing.
  3. If a Plymouth Satellite were approaching the speed of sound on a conveyor belt what sounds would the keyboards make as forum members debate the take off?
  4. I have no pesonal experience with the Dyna Mark III or IV but some who do and whose opinions I respect, e.g., DrBill on this forum, strongly favor the III over the IV.
  5. Well put Oscarsear. Of course you know it's the Bruins' fault that Charlie Weiss still has a job. Navy did its part.
  6. Happy Birthday Michael! Keep takin' it one at a time.
  7. My single driver dabbling is recorded in the thread linked below. I agree that a good single driver can do some things very well, such as imaging. I listen to mine daily. Nevertheless, whenever they start sounding too good I fire up Cornwalls or La Scalas to be reminded of the attributes of large efficient speakers. I plan to make some Tekton size enclosures to compare real Fostex 103E drivers to the Radio Shack 40-1197 version of Fostex drivers in both the rear horn and bass refelex enclosures. I suspect that dealing with Netpicky would make the attractiveness of those EV woofers dim very quickly. Cavet Emptor.
  9. Hi Jordan, Do you still have the extra set of tractrix forms you mentioned in the thread linked below? If so. I'm still interested. Please send me a PM. Help with making a tractrix horn for Altec 290-16K for use on K-horn http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/932603.aspx
  10. Thanks for the dimensions. It's interesting that you compare your Tektons to the LS3/5a, as I've owned and used a pair pf LS3/5a for decades. They're the primary speakers in my HT. I made the Fostex rear horn enclosures in the pdf and was impressed with the results. When time permits, I will make some BR enclosures; a pair like those in the Fostex pdf and a pair with dimensions similar to the Tekton. It will be interesting to compare them to each other, to the rear horn and LS3/5a.
  11. Mark, What are the external dimensions of your Tekton? The BR plan shown in the attached pdf has an internal volume of 160mm (6.3") x 270mm (10.6") x 160mm (6.3") for a volume of .24 ft3 and with a port of 60mm x 60mm.
  12. Yes I have. Nevertheless, Mdeneen and a few others I trust in this forum also know the answer. I don't want lots of replies, I just want to hear from a fellow forum member who has Tekton speakers. Thanks for the reply.
  13. Someday someone who knows the answer will read this.
  14. You do us car guys proud. They look, and probably sound, awsome.
  15. I wish I could find the four I sold in 1976 or 1977 in Detroit. At least I hope they're still in service, rather than collecting dust in a garage or, worse, taking up space in a landfill.
  16. That is called the throat. The throat is shown as 3" x 13" in the Speakerlab plans. The plans that can be down-loaded at http://www.volvotreter.de/ are metric and show the throat at 72mm (2.83456") x 335 mm (13.1890").
  17. Interesting but I question the implications regarding right/left brain and IQ. I found that focusing on the down foot and the shadow of the down foot enabled me to reverse the rotation from clockwise (looking down head to toe) to counter-clockwise and back. With a little practice I could reverse the rotation almost immediately when the foot was pointing at 12:00 or 6:00.
  18. I think Doc Who should be stoned<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> There are those who think that he often is . . .
  19. I finally circulated an email among Kriton, wpines and BadDad regarding the posibility of storing the vault in Texas, Connecticut or Indiana. The vault should have a new home by Hallowen.
  20. An experiment of a model is insufficient as the treadmill has limited top speed, the model aircraft would quickly overcome the limits of the treadmill and take off. This is not applicable to the story because the runway perfectly keeps up with the plane speed.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Im beginning to suspect that youre not serious. The model plane experiment in the video is completely applicable. In the final test the treadmill is doing more than matching the wheel speed of the plane; its exceeding it. Nevertheless, when the minimal thrust provided by the battery powered electric motor is applied, the plane moves forward in the same manner it did when the treadmill was not moving. The speed of the treadmill and planes wheels are irrelevant. THE PLANE WOULD TAKE OFF.
  21. Before anyone again attempts to explain how the plane would be prevented by the moving conveyor from taking off, please watch the video at: Then please explain why the hpothetical jet plane would have more difficulty overcoming the opposite movement of the hypothetical conveyor belt runway than did the battery powered toy plane with the actual treadmill belt/runway actually moving rapidly in the opposite direction. As unsophisticated as it is, the video accurately demonstrates that THE PLANE WOULD TAKE OFF irrespective of the the motion of the runway/conveyor. The child correctly explains the difference between a wheel driven car and a thrust driven aircraft on the same hypothetical moving belt.
  22. The following You Tube video is crude but illustrates the correct answer. Of course, that won't stop the debate.
  23. MIkeGinillinois decided not to use it. The two presently remaining options are to send it to wpines in CT or BadDad in Indy. I will investigate the cost to ship it empty to the two locations. When I get that info Ill contact each of them and ask permission to give each the others contact info so that they can discuss the relative advantages or disadvantages of either one becoming the custodian.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Unless someone has an imminent need of the vault, shipping it empty to the next custodian is the most reasonable way to preserve it for future use by forum members. Does anyone have any other suggestions or strong feelings about CT vs. IN as the storage site?
  24. It's difficult to imagine that the speakers will not fit through the opening with the folding stairs, without removing the stairs. When the stairs are down, is there not space to fit a 24.5" x 24.5" square piece of cardboard through the opening while staying perpendicular to the angle of the stairs? If there is, then take them down the stairs.
