  2. I should have started with welcome to the forum! That appears to be a Klipsch pro model...I am sure others will chime in regarding value. I will post your photos from above for easier viewing by forum members...
  3. and then there is this one for under $150. (I was surprised, similar units actually got some decent reviews on Audiokarma): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Finished-6Z5P-12AX7B-Marantz-7-Tube-Preamplifier-kit-M7-HIFI-Vacuum-Tube-preamp/283716868502
  4. Seller has relisted them on "Alerts" here directly:
  5. Also used in the famous University Classic loudspeaker (crossed over from the horn loaded bass at 350 HZ; many threads here on that) as well as comparisons; some say favorable to the K-400/401and Altec 511B...
  6. Just to close this out: He wrote me a nice note ...He has decided to keep them...good move IMO.
  7. Not one of your choices, but I suggest you look into pre-owned Heresy Speakers as well...
  8. I think he means this one: http://carveraudiorepair.com/ aka Hi-Tech Audio, LTD. I haven't used either...you may want to look for testimonials on the the Carver Site (both are referenced) : https://thecarversite.com/
  9. Like others with early Klipschorns, I would be interested in the provenance for #1251. I am told it was once owned by the West Coast distributor for Tannoy. No rush Jim! Happy Holidays.
  10. He emailed me...they have been reposted with date correction...price lowered to $4,500./pr https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/ele/d/portland-1963-klipschorns-rare-and/7042292581.html
  11. I informed him of that...I am not so sure he is in a hurry to get rid of them...I'll leave that up to him
  12. Quick follow up: Just informed the seller of the date change (he was referring to the document in question to determine the dates for the CL ad...LOL) He was appreciative of the work by the folks on the forum to confirm the true date. He advises they are still for sale!
  13. I've seen mention on the forum about the Electro Voice HP 640 and 940 horns...might be worth a search...lots out there for a reasonable price
  14. too bad they just didn't embellish a decorator model...
  15. Thanks for the clarification Jim!... It is great to get some more definitive data for the record. To be clear, can you confirm that the alpha numbers (like 1A812) started in 1963 (not 1955)? I am attaching the document in question. KHorn Serial numbers.pdf

    Klipschorn

    Now down to $2,750. https://spokane.craigslist.org/ele/d/coeur-alene-klipsch-klipschorn-speakers/7029967608.html
  17. Nope...#1251 labels show 1957...even has 1957 date with signature in pencil inside bass bin...
  18. According to the "KLIPSCH HERITAGE REFERENCE DATA - (V.3 - 23 Aug 2013)" found here on the forum: "July 29, 1955 was the last day for the four digit serials (i.e. 1811). After that the "number- letter-serial" system went into effect (2 August 1955). The first "number-letter-serial" speaker was produced on the 2nd of August 1955; that serial number was 1A812." Despite this I continue to see documented Klipschorns delivered after that date with four letter serial numbers (including my #1251 manufactured in 1957 and the subject of the last thread; #1751 delivered March 29, 1963 ) Maybe just the singles (both xx51...curious...) continued with the 4 digit serial numbers? When was the last four digit khorn built? Any thoughts?
  19. For those interested, I have been in touch with the seller. Nice guy. The serial numbers are 1A827 and 1A828 ( I suspect they may be closer to '58 or '59). They have k-55V mid-range drivers.
  20. Depends on the drivers you have in them/intend to use... & please post pics (this forum loves pics)! As a starting point here's a later 1957 Klipsch upgrade document that shows the K-1000/6/5000 network that likely came with them originally and the needed update if you switch the University 4401 tweeter to the Electro Voice T-35 (16 ohm version) upgrade. Also attached is a pic of an original crossover network and a new one built from scratch. I am sure other, more knowledgeable members will chime in. Also, I suggest you edit your topic title to reflect the Shorthorn, as they are different than the khorn or cornwall networks (and so others can search by keyword in title) . Please keep us posted on your project!
  21. Agreed...quite a few posts here suggesting the Cobreflex horn is an upgrade to the K-400/401...curious what the tweeter and woofer are...crossover looks similar to my '55 k-500/5000
