  1. If you want to profit from the full functionality, you definitely want to install that driver first!
  2. Thank you for your insights. I couldn't agree more. Already I'm 'space challenged', so if I buy this Marantz amp, something else will have to go. And I 'm pretty sure the Marantz will sound different to me, but not necessarily better. That's why I'm hesitating...
  3. As to 'new' turntables, all the mainstream brands (Marantz, Denon, Yamaha etc) have turntables in their lineup that are very affordable yet offer great sound quality. You'll easily find them under $500, cartridge and stylus included. They are not hyped, and they don't have the looks of 'alien', 'extraterrestrial', nasa technology, but simply do their job... https://www.amazon.com/s?k=denon+turntable&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
  4. Ask around in your friend and family circle. I'm sure some of them will have a TT dating back to the 80s stored on the attic, in 'mint' condition, wanting to get rid of. When my mother moved to a smaller place after my father died, I 'inherited' the old stereosystem they bought for me when I was a teenager. The turntable, Onkyo CP1000A, is now in my living room. I had to replace the rubber belt and the needle, totalling a bill of $50. It is hooked up to my Denon stereo system with my Klipsch RP160Ms.This turntable eats my Pro-Ject tt upstairs for breaksfast. 😉
  5. Quite right: use your finger nail to remove the small plastic plugs. Or a small knife tip. I put them in the packaging on the attick. If you have small children, keep the small plugs away from them. Enjoy you r speakers, they are amazing! edit: Keep the metal bridge (for bi-amping) where they are!
  6. Instantly file a complaint at UPS and the seller. Make pictures of the damage of box and speaker. It is likely the box topped over during transport and the internal parts were damaged or loosened. You paid a 'new' price so you deserve a 'new' speaker! They should replace both speakers, btw...
  7. https://www.marantz.com/nl-nl/shop/amplifier/pm7200?status=discontinue I'm a little bit intrigued by the Marnantz PM7200, of which two used specimens are available at a reasonable price in my region. This amp came out around 2005 and has amazing looks. It also has a feature that is, to my knowledge, pretty unique: it can be started in Class AB mode, and then has 95W at 8 ohm, or you hit the Class A button and reboot, and then has 25W at 8 ohm. According to 'professional reviews', in Class A mode, it loses a bit in the bass end, but has a lot more 'audiophile' clarity, a wider 3D-stage, and you'll hear a lot more detail because it is now 'distortion free'. It produces quite some heat in Class A mode, which is normal. In 2005, it cost around €500, so it's no high end amp, though it has the looks of one (that's just my personal opinion). My heart says: "Go out and buy the thing, and you'll know if you like it. It is the perfect amp for a set of Heresy speakers" But I have little place left to put it and my kids and the wife will turn the evil eye to me signalling 'Another amp, dad???'. So first, I'd like to ask your opnion here: Is this PM7200 going to sound any different than the amplifiers I already own (Marantz PM5500, Denon RCD41, TubeCube 7, Onkyo A05). After all, I mostly listen at modest levels, and I have read somewhere that most amplifiers start out as Class A amps and go into AB mode automatically when volume increases. There are a lot of user reviews here: http://www.audioreview.com/product/amplification/integrated-amplifiers/marantz/pm7200.html
  8. Is that also the reason why the 'loudness' button was invented? For adding bass when listening at less than live volume? So when you turn the volume to live levels, you must turn off 'loudness'.
  9. You can sell them here in garage sale section. If in mint condition, I would be willing to pay 75 percent of the new price, if I were an interested person....
  10. Back in the early 80s, when I was a young teenager, I convinced my parents to invest in what was then called a 'stereo tower'. They bought a nice Onkyo system. Not high end, but it must have cost about a month wage. I still use the turntable and the amplifier (A-05). Aged 40, they sound amazing, esp on my 1972 Heresy speakers.
  11. https://www.musicalfidelity.com/products/m6series/m6si Were your 86db speakers 8ohm too, or rather 4 , 6 or 16? That may explain it possibly. As the RP600M speakers have a 96db efficiency, they should indeed play louder than speakers rated 86db efficiency at 8 ohms, so something is not right. Make sure you check your connections (source to amp) and the cables you use.
  12. Thanks for that input. BGW makes professional gear of the highest standard and they build extremely powerful amplifiers. https://www.bgw.com/about-bgw It makes me wonder why PWK would build highly efficient speakers and use them with extremely powerful amps... I still have a lot to learn.
  13. Do you use the standard RPI power plug?
  14. Your 'modern' setup is very nice and high end, of course. There's a lot of 'vintage' gear out there from the 80s that is still worht while. I tested my 1972 heresy speakers with an Onkyo A-05 amplifier (1982), which can be bought for less than $50 nowadays, and it sounds better than my modern Marantz.
  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EC_Regulation_No._1275/2008 Could it be that the latest regulations related to cutting down co2 emission require that the standby/sleep mode can no longer be turned off? The Fives are a 'global' product so they'll make sure the product is complient for all markets. Or perhaps it is just Klipsch' contribution to saving the planet! Just my two cents...
  16. It should... in the ideal world, unless there is some faulty code lines involved. I thought it would be worth giving it a try. I've taken a look at the manual. For a factory reset, hold/press volume, click a source (not Bluetooth) on remote and then release it. The blue dot should flash ten times (which confirms factory reset). This should clear BT pairing connection history.
  17. Make sure no other device is connected to your speakers, eg another tablet or smartphone, you may have used it once with the speakers, then forgot about it, but it is still connected and now it blocks the speakers from connecting to another device...
  18. I always get suspicious when post 'forgets' to mention the price. Smells like spam. It costs 4,499euro here. https://audiotvcentrum.nl/product/technics-sl-1210gae-limited-edition/
  19. IMHO the sound quality improvement will be minimal. I would keep the rf52 set but add a subwoofer to the system for the lowest frequencies.
  20. This also is a nice test: https://www.npr.org/sections/therecord/2015/06/02/411473508/how-well-can-you-hear-audio-quality?t=1594888826519 My score was 3/6 under non ideal circumstances (lots of noise in the background).
  21. My phone's speaker did bring out sound, but it sounded quite weird...
  22. I'm 51 years old and I was curious about my hearing capabilities. I tested it using the Youtube video below on my living room system (Denon RCD-m41 + Klipsch RP160M). I started hearing the signal at 36Hz and I stopped hearing anything around 12,400 Hz. The results for my second setup were quite a surprise (tubecube 7 amp with Heresy 1972 speakers.) I instantly heard "some" sound at 20Hz, at 30 Hz the sound was definitely present. It disappeared at 12,000 Hz. These results are conflicting with the factory specs and with my listening experience: when listening to music I always thought the rp160m speakers went a bit lower than the Heresy. The Heresy do create a fuller 'wall of' sound, of course. I know this thread could go two ways: either towards tech (speakers and amp) or towards hearing (age and damaged hearing). I'm interested in both. This is the link:
  23. Don't turn on your tube Amp when no speakers are connected... That's one of the basic rules to pay attention to. Most tube amps need some burn in time, so the sound quality will improve as the days pass. Enjoy the music!
