  1. The sub cab flat pack arrived Tuesday afternoon. 36 hours later its all together (Tightbond 3 wood glue and a youtube assembly video). The double front face (1.5") was the last component attached hence the marble slab weight in the pic. The 18" transducer flat pack sealed cab from DIY Sound Group is awesome! CNC precision cut MDF and the lowest price I could find on line. Now debating about ext finish....paint it flat black, or veneer cabinet, or something else. I have a couple very small cracks in the front 1.5" face mating surface I have to caulk or seal. Did some light sanding/finishing last evening. The second hand Crown amp XLS 1002 arrived a week ago, works great, pushing my old speakers to test it. Has a plethora of DSP options. Impressed for the price. So I have all the components to finish except for the cabinet feet and the exterior finish. I just knew my local Home Depot or walmart would have something I could use (screw on rubber feet) , but not the case.
  2. Yes avguytx, congrats. Major undertaking. Won't be long now
  3. I'm building a large sub cabinet right now so I have been investigating diff finishes for a couple weeks, wood veneer is one of them. I have watched a couple you tube videos on veneer installation and it seems pretty straight forward and easy. You can cut it with a utility knife/straight edge and sand 90* edges with a sanding block to touch up/finish after install. Gonna link this one below, guy veneers a speaker and he is good at it. Makes it look really easy. Paper backed veneer and contact glue application. The paper back keeps glue from "leaking" to veneer and damaging wood finish. Most of the actual wood veneer is .010", very thin. Many say you can roll this around a 1" radius. Best thing you can do is google search for veneer products, but the best prices I have found for veneer delivered is amazon. I found several small businesses with good prices, but they eat you up on shipping costs. One was $35 for a single roll (walnut) with $21 delivery.....outrageous! red oak at amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009KN8X1G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=ALKL3MA73R0KX&psc=1 cherry veneer 2'x8' sheet (my fav): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009KN8INE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=A1WUT0GFUE3HL6&psc=1
  4. Supposed to hit the 90s this week in southern Louisiana. And humid. Ya know its bound to happen but.........bring back those crisp 50F early mornings. Not until Oct/Nov going forward.
  5. You just could not go wrong at that price and condition. Enjoy
  6. I purchased a pair off ebay for $15 delivered from this guy. Beautiful, brass is bright, shipped promptly. Exactly as pictured in his listing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Engraved-Solid-Brass-Klipsch-Speaker-Badge-logo-PWK-Heresy-Cornwall-Chorus/173822306153?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  7. My Crown XLS 1002 arrived yesterday. So I hooked it up to a spare pair of floorstanders and my Cowen mp3 player to make sure it works ok, no issues as it was "gently used". Impressive performance, no noise no surprise pops when switching on or off, just clean power. I actually laid on the beanbag and listened to Seal for quite a while. Loads of adjustments, bridged or stereo, high pass, low pass, or band pass filters.
  8. My apology to you and Jason, I was sort of being an arrogant di**head for sure. When I went back and later re-read this thread, it was apparent to me.
  9. Islander, you are the voice of common sense and restraint. A peacemaker I need to work on that.
  10. Excerpt from a notable article (from people who actually manufacture high quality cables and wiring harnesses) on oxygen free copper loudspeaker wire: Commonly used in consumer electronics, oxygen free copper is most frequently found in high end audio-visual systems, though individual oxygen free copper wiring custom cable assemblies are also on the market for the pickiest of music connoisseurs. Oxygen free copper is used for speaker wires, audio/video connector cable assemblies, and amplifier wires because of its purported higher conductivity, and supposedly better ability to transfer low-frequency sounds. Some manufacturers also state that oxygen free copper wiring provides better clarity of sound, and lasts longer than other, less pure, copper wires. While all of the claims about the good things about oxygen free copper wiring have a degree of truth in them, for most consumers, oxygen free copper wiring is not going to be noticeably different than any other type of copper wiring. The increase in conductivity is minimal, and is not due to the de-oxygenation of the wire. Rather, the process of electrolytic refining also removes other impurities, notably, iron, that can cause resistance. However, even so, the increase in conductivity would not be noticeable unless the wire was extended to a great length, say, over 50 feet. Since no consumer product uses wiring of anything near that length, the increased conductivity is delectably useful at best. In fact, there is no substantial difference between the performance of oxygen free copper and other types of copper in virtually all kinds of consumer products. However, outside of the realm of cutting edge scientific equipment, and extremely advanced copper cable assemblies, oxygen free copper has little practical use, particularly in the consumer world. Though a strong advertising phrase today, it is unlikely to stick around for longer than a few marketing campaigns. Link to article
  11. Yes you are correct, I had corrected my post if you look back. Actually some subs do employ both an adjustable high pass and low pass filter like Rythmik subs. Subsonic filter = high pass Brian Ding is the originator of Rythmik, an electrical engineer. He designs his own plate amps. Rythmiks are noted for his feedback servo technology. They are based out of Austin TX.
  12. Believe me, I'll pass on your help, TY.
  13. But my question was not addressed to you. I have never seen + or - 3 db response readings on a raw transducer, not installed in a cabinet. Oh please enlighten me.
  14. Anybody who builds a sub uses a low pass filter, that's so basic its stupid. Who attempts to run a sub driver full range? Oh your an expert......I forgot.
  15. So you know more than the manufacturer does? Imagine that!
  16. Pennywise, you own any $1300 loud speaker cables? I bet you do Share your favorite brand with us.
  17. Oh come now Tony........you've never been tempted to spend $2500 for a pair of speaker leads/wires? How about $40,000? I like ur style, Tony
  18. So by you statement above, do you consider the Heresy 12" transducer a subwoofer? How about the two 4.5" low frequency drivers in a Klipsch RF-42 floorstander?
  19. Just ran across this, a review of the SVS SB-3000 sub at Crutchfield, the one i own. SVS lists its frequency response as down to 18 hz. I cannot measure it but its pretty powerful! Many weaker subs just fall apart on the acoustic lead in for the Live Die Repeat blu ray. Some serious low frequency pulses. You want to test ur loudspeaker or subwoofer low frequency performance, play the Live Die Repeat blu ray from the beginning at a decent volume. Just be ready to lower/mute it in case ur drivers start a flopping like a fish out of water on the deck. Huge improvement over10 yr old ported Klipsch SW Robert from Southlake, TX on 4/3/2019 Verified customer(What's this?) Bought new pair of Klipsch RF 7 iii speakers and decided to upgrade the old Klipsch SW (10+ years old). Hooked it up and ... WOW! Huge improvement over the ported Klipsch! So much more power/punch. The sealed system is so much tighter and true. I'd become accustomed to the needless boom. The app control is fantastic! Pros: Huge, powerful, tight bass. The app control. Cons: None!
  20. Got ones and zeros only output from those Heresys. Lots of em
  21. I'm right with you Edgar. Actually according to Klipsch spec sheet the Heresy only goes to 58 hz, + or - 3 db. But typically there is listening room low frequency gain. Unless its HUGE room. The Rockville specifications is down to 25 hz. I am just amazed at what is offered from China. $60 delivered 18" transducer, and nice quality. Can't wait to put the cab together and see how it will perform. Online reviews are really good and it has a one year warranty. So naysayers keep in mind that easily 95% of Klipsch speaker drivers produced today in new product are manufactured in the Peoples Republic of China. USA technology, Chinese manufacturing. I wonder where the transducers in my new CWs are manufactured? I don't know.
  22. Is the 12" driver in a Heresy a subwoofer? I think not. If you label it a subwoofer.........it's a pretty poor one.
