  1. Well, the itch to upgrade is back and it must be scratched. I've all but decided on buying a refurbished Denon AVR-1905 for $296. However, before pulling the trigger I would like to know your collective opinion on this. Are there any negative aspects to the 1905 that I should be aware of? Are there other Denon models that will provide the same or more capabilities for less money? There are so many Denon models out there that I'm having a hard time making heads or tails of what is what. One thing I want for sure is signal conversion, which the 1905 does. Thanks for any advice you can provide!
  2. I never knew Milwaukee's Best was a micro brew! My vote is still for Indy. Trey or Amy, any tentative dates picked yet? ---------------- On 2/7/2005 9:07:47 PM j-malotky wrote: Hope of Indy.... either way, let me know as I will bring a lot of Milw's best micro brew beer like usual for the Friday night get together JM ----------------
  3. I thought the whole idea of fiber optics was that they were virtually lossless. Shouldn't the light from the weakest LED's travel far over 25 feet in a closed line? ---------------- On 2/2/2005 12:27:34 AM j-malotky wrote: You should be able to get a 20' optical cable to work if there are not too many bends. 25' is about the upper limit using the low power LEDs used in common components. ----------------
  4. I'd say that's a good range if you find a buyer nearby.
  5. Only Indy works for me since it's along my existing trip route for our summer trip to Missouri. It'll be tough enough to convince my wife of the detour if it's in Indy, impossible for Hope.
  6. Yes, they were probably sold by an internet site offering their own warranty service in place of Klipsch's. They remove the Klipsch serial number label and put their own on with a simple label maker. The worthless things aren't even on straight! That is, the labels are worthless, the speakers are probably fine.
  7. Now that's just silly. Do you realize that other networks such as CNN actually strive to avoid bias and conflicts of interest? Not the case at Fox where personal views of anchors, correspondents, pundits, etc. are routinely presented as objective news. ick ---------------- On 7/27/2004 4:33:57 PM John Albright wrote: At least Fox News is more Fair and Balanced than the Communist News Network or any of the broadcast networks. The real problem is that the majority of the other networks are so twisted and biased, everybody thinks that is normal and Fox is not. In reality, Fox News is very neutral and sometimes MSNBC is, too. They just don't look like it in comparison. ----------------

  9. Klipsch also sells the SP1 in the Synergy line.
  10. Hey Tweek, You okay? Looks like you had a seizure or something.
  11. How about some sort of barrier around the base since the drivers are up a ways? It wouldn't look the best, but it's probably the most straightforward way to keep the puppy away temporarily, and it won't affect your sound at all. The idea of actually raising the towers on stands sounds a bit risky, unless you build a wide and stable platform to simply set them on. If you do that, a simple wooden box seems like it would do the trick.
  12. You just missed him. He went walking down the street thataway. (Hence the pedestrian reference.) ---------------- On 5/1/2004 8:57:13 AM fini wrote: Where, Toronto? ----------------

  14. Just to clarify (and further complicate my made up ailment), it's my butt with the temper not me. I'm quite easy going and mild. But my butt, well that's another story completely. Bar fights, shouting matches at family gatherings, I'm getting upset just thinking about it. ---------------- On 4/30/2004 11:05:38 AM Bill H. wrote: Tripod, Hope you realize I meant no harm...............If I insulted you I apologize, most sincerely!................. ----------------
  15. Yup, it wasn't pretty. Say the wrong thing around my rear and you were likely to find yourself on the receiving end of an angry outburst. Not pretty at all. It's far more common than most people realize. ---------------- On 4/30/2004 8:40:06 AM Bill H. wrote: Tripod, had to look this one up and here is what I discovered: ----------------

  17. I think I'm great, and gosh darnit, people like me. Cluless, BBB and Fini always make me laugh too. I especially like BBB's ability to conjure a cartoon to match any discussion. The valuable contributions from people with expertise is far too much to detail here. So I'll just say they're great too. Almost all of us are great. The rest of you non-greats know who you are.
  18. You're supposed to leave those responses for BBB or fini to make. Why not feel 4 people in Alaska? (assuming consent was given, of course) They need love too.
  19. Welcome to the sickness. Isn't it great!? In terms of more toys to obsess on, what type of remote do you use? There're a whole bunch of those to consider too.
  20. Missing labels are often a sign that speakers were sold on the grey market. Keeps the manufacturer from tracking who in the supply line is selling outside of the agreed upon terms. I can't give you a dollar amount, but I think you could expect a moderate decrease in value. Maybe $80 for every $100? Of course, it's likely that you could sell them on eBay to someone who doesn't even know a label should be there. Just be sure to display pictures of all sides s o that they can't complain after the fact.
  21. Click on the "About Us" link and you'll see that they even note that: "Shinall and Company will accept trade-ins for McIntosh Amplifiers, McIntosh Pre-Amps, McIntosh Tuners, McIntosh CD Players and Klipschhorn Speaker Systems as well as other Klipsch speaker models." I guess that helps them make more accurate copies without actually having to even buy the speakers first. Wow!
  22. Bottom line: Anyone but Bush in 2004.
  23. This could turn into a real nightmare quite easily. But... you could try to bootleg the clip you are after. Use a digital camcorder to record it from the screen in the actual theater. Then burn it to a DVD for use on your system. Or maybe you could write to the company and ask, but I doubt they would be anxious to share such material.
  24. Just watched the first one last night, might catch the new one tonight. Excellent movie, but definitely not for kids (although I'm sure far too many will see it anyway).
  25. Yes. The plugs on eBay accept up to 10 gauge wire. Any smaller wire can be used as well.
