  1. What is your intended use for this system? That would make a pretty big difference in what amplification we can steer you towards.
  2. I understand the acoustics of it pretty well. What I am referring to as being "Tricky" is when a fire place, staircase, hallway openings, beloved plant that just won't die, etc. end up being in the way. I have a 3.2 system in my living room and I am forced to put both subs on the same wall as the main speakers (My north wall). Not a bad option. However, if I wanted to do the 4 sub option, it wouldn't be possible for me as on the west wall I have a fireplace surrounded by two glass sliding doors on either side... so there is no space on that wall at all. The south "wall" is not a wall at all, ( roughly 2 feet on either side) but a very large opening with a step up leading into the dining room. Finally on the east wall there is a wide opening right in the center with a step up to the front entryway/hallway. So, for me, the best option is to build a dedicated home theater room into the house that I will build when I retire.... that way I can plan for the exact setup I want at the time. Now.... I only have 12 more years to plan it!!!
  3. Some interesting reading on a multiple sub system. https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/audiokinesis-swarm-subwoofer-system/ and https://www.monoandstereo.com/2015/11/audiokinesis-swarm-subwoofer-system.html I understand that sometimes it's hard to put more than one sub in a room correctly.....now adding 4...hmmm. Unless you have a perfect room, or are building a dedicated listening/theater room, decent placement of the subs will be very tricky. I like the idea though. Also, the price point isn't ridiculous considering you get 4 10" subs and a 1000watt amplifier. Specs: Type: Multiple subwoofer system, four subwoofers, series/parallel connection to 1000W subwoofer amplifier (included) Drivers: One 10"4 long-throw driver per sub; vented enclosure for correct roll-off to compensate for room gain (ports can be plugged with supplied plugs, if desired) Frequency response: 20–100Hz (typical in-room) Adjustments: Upper-frequency limit, phase, gain, and one-frequency parametric EQ Dimensions: 12" x 23" x 12" (each subwoofer) Weight: 44 lbs. each Finishes: Oak, maple, or walnut Price: $2500 plus shipping (sold direct)
  4. A little fun reading for everyone. I like the idea, but even placing 1 or 2 subs in most rooms can sometimes be tricky (and that's even before the wife factor) ...now, trying to properly locate 4 subs in an average room...good luck. https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/audiokinesis-swarm-subwoofer-system/
  5. Illinois, just West of Chicago near Naperville. They were black... that didn't last long! I purchased them for too much- $750 but they guy was only 20 minutes away... and the KLF was the only Klipsh line that I wanted to own/try that I hadn't as of that point. However, when I picked them up I didn't take the time I should have to inspect the finish...they looked decent in his dimly lit living room. I was really concerned if all of the drivers functioned correctly... which they did. Well, I got them home and noticed a few things on the finish, but nothing that wouldn't be corrected with a refinish job. So, I did the Crites Ti tweeters, dampened the mid and tweeter horns and braced the cabinets front to back. So far, I have them sanded down and still deciding on what finish I'm going to use. So, at this point, as they are, I would say $900. I know it's a lot, but at this point, it's a perfect condition cabinet with most of the upgrades done.
  6. ... now, if there was only more than a handful of stuff available in 4K! Congrats on your purchase.
  7. Packed and ready to go. If calebcav2332 passes, then they are all yours flatgrass
  8. I run a single sub output from my av processor to a Crown K2. The K2 has a "y" switch on the back panel (see picture... it's located in between the XLR inputs) that basically passes your single input signal to both inputs without using a cheap audio Y splitter. K1 or K2 amps are awesome for sub duty because they don't have a fan and have a ton of headroom to drive even very inefficient loads and a damping factor of greater than 3000! K1= 350 watts per channel at 8 ohms 550 watts at 4 ohms and 750 watts at 2 ohms. The K2 is 500 / 800/ 1250 respectively. If anyone needs more power than that they need to go to get their ears checked! ...or use a q-tip! You can usually pick these amps up used in the $200-$400 price range. (about the price of a mediocre subwoofer plate amplifier) Worth every penny. I've been using my K2 ( and a K1 for another system) since after I graduated college in 1997. Needless to say, these amps hold up very well. I hope this gives you another option to consider
  9. Have a look at what I have used below. Everything is available on Amazon. Avoid the hype. I just saw someone selling a $23,000 set of speaker cables for $4,950 (Enklein David Speaker Cables) and to me, that's still about $4,925 too expensive! I find it funny that anyone with expensive gear like this always declines when I ask them to do a double blind test compared to what I'm using at the time. Although about 30 years ago I did have a friend in high school who swore that his expensive (at the time) Monster RCA cables would sound so much better compared to the generic ones that came with my parents Kenwood stereo system from a local stereo shop. So, we pulled out the good old 6 disc changed and swapped the cables back and forth and low and behold, neither of us could tell a difference! (Now to be fair, we weren't running the cables across power cables and other stuff and the entire system, speakers and all, was about $1,200 at the time... think 1990's) Anyway, I've rambled on enough. Check out the stuff and see what you think... or take out another mortgage and buy some stupid expensive cables and justify the expenditure to all of your friends by using language like, "Takes the electronic sound right out of the signal and promotes an ultra smooth, wide, dynamic, fast and detailed sound stage." (I literally just cut and pasted this from someone selling Kimber Cables online at USaudiomart) This is what I used for connectors: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078PN5GR6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 This is a decent wire I also used in the past: https://www.amazon.com/KabelDirekt-Speaker-Wire-Audiophiles-Systems/dp/B07BBV1J4Z/ref=pd_bxgy_img_2/133-4360218-1089009?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07BBV1J4Z&pd_rd_r=36a41c12-bfad-4361-a160-3c2c9c6f3c20&pd_rd_w=msIXP&pd_rd_wg=uEjqy&pf_rd_p=ce6c479b-ef53-49a6-845b-bbbf35c28dd3&pf_rd_r=JNMCCBQVE83AHPBAG0QB&psc=1&refRID=JNMCCBQVE83AHPBAG0QB Best of luck!
  10. I have a pair of KLF 20's that I'm refinishing and thinking about letting go. What is your price range?
  11. Had kids, my dedicated home theater is no longer, thus, this is up for sale. I have the original box. Calibration mic, owners manual and the remote are included. $250 for local pickup, $300 shipped.
  12. Likewise Frank! I'm glad you made it home safely! Enjoy the speakers. -John
  13. Apparently! But, not so much in Illinois as of right now. Although, I did just sell my KG3.5's I refinished. But, the guy drove all the way from Ohio to pick them up today!
  14. Sold to an awesome fellow forum member from Ohio. He made the 10 hour round trip today!
  15. I saw my neighbors, out on their patio in the backyard, and his wife was shaving his back over the large garbage container that you wheel to the curb! Not that's sh@t you just can't un-see!
  16. That's funny, I've had 2 other people from Canada contact me through US Audiomart, but they wanted to know if I could ship them. Apparently these are a hot commodity up North!
  17. I will start by saying I loved the Cornwall III's when I auditioned them many years ago. Unfortunately, spending that amount of money at the time was out of the question. (I'm a teacher) The only other speaker in the room that sounded marginally better to me was, of course, the klipschorns... even more out of my price range at the time. Now that my house is paid off, I'm on the prowl for a nice set of speakers for my 2.2 system ( 2 mains and two subs) that is in my living room which opens up into the dining room and kitchen. I plan on auditioning the Cornwall IV's and give them a fair chance. Although, I always like to buy used to save a bunch! I love it when poeple have to run out and buy the latest and greatest gear, and then in 6 months to a year it up for sale at a significant discount! (Well, most of the time, sometimes people think their used gear is worth just as much as when it was new!) I can see how some poeple say they are antiquated. I think I would say that they have that older boxy look going on...and some people like that. I think they are perfect for a slight mid century modern appeal. Will they win any speaker design competitions...nope! But if you like them and they sound good... bonus! Now, they are not antiquated on the inside with the updated horns/ports//etc. Now, if you are looking at spending around 6K on a set, I would strongly, and I mean strongly listen to both the Focal Electra 1028BE and the Focal Electra 1038BE. The 1028BE can be found used in the 3k-4k price range. The 1038BE's can still be found new in the upper 6K range. These, for most people in the real world, will be better sounding speakers. I had the luxury of comparing a set of Focal 1028BE's to my RF 83's/Forte II's and RF 7's in my own listening space.... and after much critical listening, my brother summed it up perfectly; "The Klipsch speakers sound very good on their own, but they sound like sizzle sticks compared to those goofy European looking things!" So, if you don't mind the modern look of the Focal speaker, I strongly suggest listening to either of the mentioned models. Your ears just might thank you.
  18. I purchased them from www.parts-express.com They aren't very expensive. You have to check them over carefully, as one set I ordered had pretty noticeable surface scratches on them... so I had to order an addition set. Good luck! https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-op-4-outrigger-speaker-spike-set-with-abs-base-4-pcs--240-769
