  1. "MKL, hey listen boy you start with your usual one sided propaganda bull$hit AGAIN!" Actually, I rarely stray to discussing poltics on this board, so I dont think I *have* any usual propaganda. I'm really not sure I understand what your problem was with my comment, I was just showing an analogy to another dictator which liked to kill people. No, I didn't mention all of the different groups, but I felt it was unnecessary for my comment. I'm catholic, lots of catholics were also killed by Hitler, did I feel the need to mention it, Nope, I wasn't givign a history lesson, just a quick point. I hate making political statements on boards, even more so on audio boards, The whole "terrorists were courageous" bull$hit just really got my blood pumping:) But, I went to work for a few hours, and am much calmer now:) So , Ears I appologize for whatever wrong you feel I caused you, and I just want to let you know, I really really dont have any usual propaganda, one sided or not:) -mkl
  2. "but that does NOT give ANYONE ANY RIGHT to go in and stop him because whatever he is doing, he keeps it WITHIN HIS BORDERS. "] Actually Kain, since what he is doing is illegal (He still has, and is making WOMD) that is in violation of the UN Law. He has invaded other countries, which is why he cant have WOMD in the first place. He DOES NOT keep it within his borders, that is fact, not opinion. I'm sorry that America has to be the police force of the whole world, maybe if some of these countries would get their act together, we wouldnt have to. Let me address this in a few ways in hopes it will sink it. 1. So if you come to my house, and I beat you to death, its fine, because Im only torturing people in my own house? Sure its against the law, but its within my house, and I dont really agree with the laws that other people make for me, its my house damn it! 2. Do you really believe what you are saying? Im curious, I realize your young, and at that age I would often repeat what my elders said, taking it for granted that they were right. I hope that is what you are doing, and you will grow to realize that craziness in the things you are saying. ANY DICTATOR which kills his own people unjustly will be stopped by America. You should be ashamed to talk about the rest of the world the way you do, when if your family was being slaughtered by your leader, we would be there to help you. Keep in mind, we all live on the same earth, there are Laws here, just because you have your own country does NOT mean you can break international law. As a side note, Id love to see you what you would have to say when you do need help from America or another country, I bet you'll be singing a different tune then. -mkl
  3. Actually, I saw the people of Iraq on TV praising America for helping them be finally free of an opprsessive tyrant. And I clearly pointed out in my post, there is a huge difference between militaty action which causes civillian casualties, and terrorist acts AIMED at destroying innocent lives. If Saddam would have given him self up or ben exiled, this whole war wouldnt even be taking place, he is putting his own people in harms way. Oh, thats right, HE DOESNT CARE. He is HOPING we accideently kill civillains so he can spread his anti-american, anti-jew propoganda. Hell, he kills his own people all the time, what does he care. The fact that a few must die to save a country is unfortunate, and as I have said, God bless American Troops, and civillians of any side in this conflict. But all that aside, there is no reasoning with some people. Kain you probably thought America should have stayed out of WWII as well. Im sure in your warped mind, the Nazis who were killing millions of Jews had a lot courage. Godwin's Law invoked, thread must end) -mkl
  4. "Uhhh...it takes COURAGE to drive a plane into a building knowing that you are going to die. How can you be a coward for doing that?? Do you not know the difference?? LOL." Yes, I bet it takes a lot of courage to slaughter innocent civillians. And unlike the unfortunate civillian casualties of war, it was completely pre-planned. It does not take courage to fly a plane into a building, it takes a crazed fanatical, hell-bent on the death of innocent mothers, sisters, brothers and fathers. Its no suprise to me that you disapprove of this war if you think the men in those planes had courage. They did not. They were weak, feeble minded men, who were able to be persuaded to give their lives in the attempt to kill as many innocents as possible. -mkl (Edited to fix grammatical error)
  5. Thanks all for responding. I'm working with the builder now to see if he would be willing to build me a single house (unattached) on some property he owns next to the place I was looking at for about the same rate. Sounds promising, so maybe this will become a non-issue:) -mkl
  6. I'll throw my 2 cents in to, Like almost everyone, I wish war could have been avoided. However, there comes a point where things can not be peaceably settled. Iraq has had over a decade to disarm. There is proof that he hasn't. This disarmormed was not a US thing, the entire UN decided Iraq should not have weapons of mass destruction. Now, as far as reported on CNN , scud missles are somehow landing in kuwait...Wait a minute, Iraq cant legally, according to UN law, have scud missles...strange. I love to see other countries complain about America getting involved in things they shouldnt, but wait a minute, they arent complaining when we give them aid, or help them when they're in trouble. Blah. God Bless our troops, and civilians of any side who are in harms way. -mkl
  7. Yeah, I'm already sure that the bass will transmit, I really was just curious about approx. how much of the other freq. the design the builder is proposing would block. This isnt just a ht/speaker question, just a general noise issue. It looks like the shared common wall would be: 2 layers of 5/8" fire rock (Not sure what the signifigance of this rather than "Sheet rock" which I've always heard) Then a layer of r-19 insulation A sheet of some sort of thin metal fire protection shield , which I cant remember the thickness /type of at the moment. 2 more layers of 5/8" fire rock. All framed with 2" x 6"s. I'm no carpenter , but that sounded like a pretty decent wall to me, thoughts? Basically, I really love the area its going to be in (a short walk to the water, boat access, fishing, little sandy beachs...aahhhh), so (feel free to yell at me) It may just balance out not using my SVS at all hours of the day:) -mkl
  8. I'm currently in the process of house shopping...I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but one of my better options is moving into a duplex (you know, a town house, but it only is connected to one person). Money wise, it fits right in with my budget and would be perfect, and its not built yet. The only issue I have, is how much will I bother the guy living one wall across from me. The builder said he had a book of equations for figuring out with x wall constructions at y freq at z db level, how loud it would be on the other guys side of the wall. He gave me all the wall specs, and said next time we meet hell bring the book with him if he can find it. Any chance someone can point me to an website or give me some info on where I can find this. I have the complete specs for the single shared wall. Thanks a ton -mkl

    The Ring

Good girl hysterical? I wouldn't call it hysterical though there were some funny parts, but it was a very very good movie...Although what really put it over the edge was Jake Gyllenhaal. After seeing The Good Girl and Donnie Darko (a super super movie, one of my fav. all timers) I would say hes def. an actor to keep an eye on. -mkl
  10. That cd looks pretty good, I have albums from 50% of those bands, but ill have to pick it up just to get a sample of those ones I haven't heard. If you like GSYBE i highly highly recommend Silver Mt. Zion, Sigur Ros, and the cd "angels of the universe" which is a movie soundtrack by hilmar hilmarsson and sigur ros. -mkl
  11. I love my marantz 8200. Great for home theater, and I felt the most musical of the HT receivers I auditioned. -mkl
  12. I'll give a huge second to Interpol and Sigur Ros. And if you like Interpol, check out Joy Divison for a very similar sound. If you like sigur ros (very ambient instrumental music check out: God Speed You Black Emperor! and if you dig violins in the mix alot Silver Mt. Zion. If you like the indie sound, top of my list for that vibe would be... Rainer Maria, Ida, Alpha, and you will know us by the trail of dead, the shins, and low, and maybe some elliot smith. I saw someone mentioned thursday, other good "emo" type bands I'd def. recommend (other than the obvious dashboard confessional, saves the day, get up kids) would be Juliana Theory, fairweather, further seems forever, hot rod circuit, audio learning center, ok I could go on and on, but I'll stop:) -mkl
  13. Sometimes its easier to buy things pre-build, of course it will cost a little more. But really, do you spin your own thread (after shaving the sheep you raised ofcourse) to make your own clothes? No? OH MY GOD, then you're just mad that gap/abercrombie/dockers/jcrew whoever is ripping you off! You could have made your own shirt for a fraction of the cost! -mkl
  14. "they use propriotary components, so upgrades can be 100% impossible" I see this being thrown around yet again. If you make this claim, please back it up with specifics. Do companies make some systems which are non-standard? Yes. But all you have to do is look at the specs (actually usually you can just look at the computer, do you think those all-in-one systems built into a flatpanel always use atx motherboards? ) Just look at the specs, is it an atx motherboard? Yup, then what else can you do to make it proprietary and non-upgradable? -mkl
  15. " Dell, Gateway, etc. are often hard to upgrade or expand because many of their components are proprietary, " What components are proprietary in those systems? It's been a loooong time since I've seen anything that I would describe as "proprietary" in a dell or gateway. And even then, it usually wasnt proprietary, just out of the ordinary...Like how a lot of the budget systems used to use a fan shroud to use one fan for the power supply and cpu instead of 2 sepearate fans. This was just a money saver, as the fanless powersupplies are cheaper. The only thing that is every proprietary in most modeern systems is the bios, and even then, its usually just a slight modification, nothing which stops ANY upgrades. It simply costs to much to use proprietary parts, they buy the same components that everyone uses, made in the same generic factorys. -mkl
  16. mike in maryland- Where in MD are ya? I too am a Mike in Maryland. I recently (well 6 months) moved to Southern Maryland (near Solomons) from the Eastern shore (near Denton). What side of the bridge are you on? -mkl
  17. Can we please also no longer discuss any speaker wire other than Monster brand speaker wire. Since the Ref. series uses Monster wire internally, noone shall ever speak of another brand on this forum. Let us use the rest of this thread to discuss our Monster brand wire now. -mkl (For the humor impaired, im just joking! )
  18. Just gonna throw my own 2 cents in here. 1. Dell/ Gateway, I've had a lot of succes with both. When I was doing more computer hardware support, I regularly dealt with 5 labs of 30 computers. All Gateway/Dell machines. Rarely saw serious problems, and when I did, it was never regularly one company or the other. I actually prefered dealing with Gateway when it was something I needed to contact them with. They seemed a little more responsive. As far as the comment that Gateway is harder to upgrade, all the of the Dell/Gateways are no problem to upgrade, they use pretty much the same cases, hardware etc. My main concern if I were you is to not get a celeron processor. Preformance for applications like photoshop is going to be much worse than P3/P4 or an Athlon/Duron. -mkl
  19. If I understand what you are talking about, the device was still a Dictaphone, and used dictation belts as its media. If you just wanted the belts recorded onto cd, a guy who I used to live near (I never knew him personally however, just about him:) ) used to do this will these belts. His website is http://www.soundsaver.com/ He has a section for dictation belts. From stories I've heard, if it was recorded on media, this guy can play/transfer it. If you don't want it transfered, he would at the least be a good reference for getting a unit to play them. Hope this helps. -mkl
  20. " some feel this will de-value the Klipsch name and product line. " I hope so...maybe, everyone will stop buying up the Heritage products and I'll be able to afford more of it. -mkl
  21. "is it like a full out operating system or just a server platform... as in, is it what powers a server or a networking OS like NT or Win2000" Im not sure which one "it" is referring to in your sentence, but all of the Windows Server/Advanced , etc are Full Windows desktop operating systems, with extras. Basically extra server programs for dns, authentication, etc , and support for more processors (Server for 4, advanced server for 8) and more powerful hadrware. Cool stuff like clustering, load balancing etc. But you can still use them for as your desktop os, if you really wanted to:) -mkl
  22. Yeah, you'd need a 64-bit Itanium 2 processor. The 64bit version won't work on a 32 bit processor. -mkl
  23. Hey RefSeller, if I were the one selling reference speakers , you know what I'd if i was worried about customers not being able to a/b with synergy? I'd buy a synergy system and have it in the store. Don't sell them, just have it available for customers to compare. Solves the problem. Synergy isn't that expensive, so it doesn't seem like a tremendous overheard. -mkl
  24. I don't understand. What would be wrong with THX certified tv's? Maybe the tv speakers shouldn't be certified, But THX theaters have had the projectors THX certified for awhile (Things like brightness etc) I don't really care if a piece of equipment is THX certified or not, but I haven't seen anything THX certified that I thought was sub-par, so it doesn't seem like they've sold out to me. -mkl
