    The grand plan

"upgradability via RS232." Let me first say that I have the Marantz sr8200 and LOVE it. It was the best receiver with my speakers/in my room that I demoed. I found them to be great for HT and better than other A/V receivers for 2 channel with some Heresys. Had it about 2 years, no problems at all. The one thing I don't like is that Maratntz is charging about $200 for the software upgrade to my sr8200. So yeah, it is upgradeable, but I just hate putting 200 more dollars toward a 1600$ piece of gear. Maybe thats just me:) I looked at the features of the new software, and didn't see anything killer to me, so Im holding off for the moment. I'm not sure what remote the lower models come with, but the rc2300 touchscreen with the 8200 is incredible. It's pretty much a rebranded pronto from what I understand. Very nice.
  2. My HT computer sits between an SVS and a Heresy. It's about 3 inches from the SVS woofer. Been like that for over a year and a half. Nada problems, although I did consider it when I first placed it. I figured it would be an experiment, so far no failures. -mkl
  3. " they look really nice but they kind of get annoying." How so?
  4. Didn't your mom ever tell you...if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all? Seriously, Costello is an amazing artist, and Krall has an excellent voice. They make a very....interesting couple:)
  5. I just got growing up live today. Great sound, great picture, and gabriel puts on a *great* show. -Mkl
  6. Gary- You guys got snow? I'm about an hour and a half from Baltimore, no snow at all here! -mkl
  7. I third that. I love my Infocus X1. -MKL
  8. I don't see a major difference between DVDs and CDS. CDs you can listen to over and over, I can do the same for DVDS. I generally always have a movie playing, no matter what I'm doing, and its just like music to me. I've watched every movie I own multiple times, and own quite a few movies (I've bought 10 in the last 6 days). So, I guess it just depends what you do with your movies:) If you only watch a movie once, to see the plot and its done for you, renting makes more sense. I usually critically watch most movies 2-3 times at first, then for a few months Ill use them as background material while I do work in front of the TV, till I feel like watching it again. Id estimate the good movies in my collection Ive watched 5-6 times atleast. Not all critically however. Everytime I watch a dvd I see something new, and get something different out of the experience. -MKL

  10. 410 dvds and counting. The only good thing with buying so many dvds, is it has atleast somehwat slowed down my cd purchasing habit. -mkl
  11. "heavy high end audio being put outside for the night" And how many times have you left it outside in the winter?
  12. The guy who did Memento *did* do a black and white , excellent creepy movie before he did memento, but it was called "The following". The guy who did Requiem for A Dream did a creepy black and white excellent movie before he did Requiem, and *it* was called PI. -MKL
  13. I have the Marantz RC3200. It uses the same software as the Pronto, with some customizations. I probably wouldn't have bought the Marantz model if I didn't have a Marantz receiver. Most likely would have gotten the pronto. There is a online store, I haven't done business with them however, that has the Marantz RC3200 factory recertified for 139$, www.accessories4less.com. -MKL
  14. Ahhh, finally a screen size I can live with:) Just watched clips of some of my DVDS on my new projector. Amazing! I ended up getting a Infocus x1, best bang for the buck in my eyes. With 3 Heresys across the front and my SVS, its getting close to theater perfect:) I only have the screen up to 62" diagonal, but hopefully tomorrow I'll get it adjusted to a more decent larger size Any other klipschsters using the X1? -MKL
  15. Doh, thanks for fixing my list Diggs -MKL

Also fixed Yellow Card to reflect the bands actual name:)
  17. I got the sample on cd a long time ago. It has been a long time since I've heard it...however all I remember is it sounded horrible! Hiss, pings, very very strange. I guess recording a turntable then playing the cd must give you the worst of both worlds. -MKL
  18. You can lie with numbers, and I'm not a Mac user (now) tho, I was in the past, and I'm sure I will be in the future if they keep up the work with OSX. Second, your post is incorrect in a few regards. 1. Apple didnt turn off anything. If you are talking about the same benchmarks ppl have been talking about lately, those were conducted by a 3rd party, not Apple. 2. They (the 3rd party, not Apple) turned off HT because...turning it off made the xeons do BETTER. Yes, HT can use additional processor overheard to handle coordination of processes. If A program was not designed to use SMP and you are using multiprocessors it is always possible to do worse when in SMP mode. Heck, the original Quake ran WORSE on a multi processor box if you had your SMP support turned on:) 3. And you didn't mention the other gripe, that the Xeon would have done better if you used the Intel compiler...well gee, thats possible, but the benchmark used the SAME compiler on both systems, that seems like a better way to judge hardware, rather than comparing compilers. 4.The benchmarking procedures for this test were very well documented. If you really think it was an unfair benchmark, Id really like to know why. And yeah, Im going to be labeled by you as a cultist, but I hate to see this FUD being spread, it's almost as bad as Bose. Other links: G5 Benchmark by NASA http://members.cox.net/craig.hunter/g5/ -MKL "Because you can lie with numbers. The Steinberg forum has a great thread going about how Apple turned off hyperthreading on the dual Xeon test box, to make the G5 test faster. Mac users are part of a cult and don't even know it. It doesn't matter if the computer is any good, it is a Mac. It's the attitude that stinks, not the computers themselves"
  19. Agreed. I love my Marantz sr8200. -MKL ---------------- On 8/1/2003 3:29:36 PM ssh wrote: Take it back, but don't give-up on Marantz.I love my SR9200 for home theatre use. ssh ----------------
  20. Gary- I'm in maryland as well, where are you finding these deals? Please share! -MKL
  21. Agreed. I read this forum at work, I would hate if the president of the company walked up behind me and happened to glance at the list of topics and see something fairly off-color. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Topics which are off-topic of audio or klipsch should be marked in the topic as "OT" or "Off topic" and topics should never have titles with anything you wouldn't say in front of a 4 year old. IE: for the specific one being referred to , the topic could be "Joke- OT". -mkl
  22. "I would like to start by saying you're an a$shole. come on this forum runnin your mouth like a little ****% eating b!tch...I'd like to see you talk with this much disrespect to me in person. and actually, I have solved the problem. it was a worm on my comp, and norton detected it so I reformatted and voila. as for you my friend, maybe if you have the balls you'd like to fight sometime, lil **** for brains I'll run your *** down and make you my b!tch. go back to to the valley, we don't need your fake *** here... " Do you realize that challenging/threatening people *over the internet* makes you seem foolish? -MKL
  23. My house was robbed a little over a year ago, they took about 200 cds, over 100 dvds. The biggest shock was, they took my SVS 20-39 out of my second floor, took it all the way out to their car, and couldnt get it in. Yup, they had to leave it in the driveway. The strangest part was , I had received the sub *THAT DAY*. I had gone home at lunch (I lived really close) and hauled it upstairs, set it up, played with it for an hour...then went back to work. Got home at 5, and it was in the driveway. They passed on all my klipsch (3 heresys, 2 sp1s, 2 kg2s, sc-1, 2 ss-1s..) passed on the Marantz 8200 receiver, but took its remote (299$ yow!). Insurance ended up paying for all of it, even though they tried their hardest to screw me Being robbed sucks, it made me fairly paranoid for a few months about my gear, thinking they might come back for it. -MKL
  24. "Yeah but with multi threading on dual chips I" The software would have to be multi-threaded. Since video playing is so linear. I doubt dual processors would have any effect. The software probably isn't set up to use multi-threading for movie playing (This is for Window Media Player right?) -MKL
