  1. I suspect it will be more than enough power. Congratulations! I look forward to your review after you've had time to listen a bit.
  2. That looks sweet! Were you able to return the 275?
  3. Before I bought the Fortes, my wife was never overly impressed with any "improvements" I made to the audio system. Pretty much everything was, "that's nice, honey. I'm glad you like it. Call Dennis (brother-in-law) and tell him about it." Her reaction to the Fortes may not have been as enthusiastic as mine, but she really likes them and even said so without prompting.
  4. I spent a large chunk of my career working as a consultant. Our definition of an "expert" was, anyone more than 35 miles from home and carrying a briefcase (or, backpack for tech companies).
  5. I just finished "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August" by Claire North. Not exactly sure how to describe it. Kind of a thriller, but includes recurring reincarnation of the main character and several others. I enjoyed it.
  6. If it was me, I would buy the used car. It's barely broken in and you will save $11K.
  7. I'm sure everyone has one or more stories. There is an old topic on First Klipsch Experience, but I'm interested in hearing peoples favorite experiences which may or may not be one and the same. I have two favorite experiences and I will start with the earliest. Back in the early 70s, there was an audio store in Des Moines, Iowa called Audiolabs (still around, but the focus is more on HT today). I spent enough time there that I got to know some of the staff reasonably well. One of the guys who worked evenings had a full-time job and worked at Audiolabs primarily for the access to high-end equipment and the employee discount to feed is audio addiction. If I came in while he was working, he would generally grab me as soon as I walked in the door and drag me into one of the demo rooms to show me whatever new piece of equipment had most recently fired his passion. One time it was a pair of Klipschorns powered by a massive Audio Research amp. My friend sat me in the sweet spot then dropped the needle on ELP's Karn Evil 9. It was loud. It was clean. It sounded absolutely amazing! I had never heard anything like that coming out of speakers and I was hooked. Of course, a setup like that was so far out of my price range it wasn't even in the realm of consideration. Plus, I was living in a small apartment with a young wife and a baby, so yeah... Still, that was the beginning of my desire to someday own Klipschorns. I probably never will, but I do at least have Fortes. There is a funny follow-up to my story. A couple of weeks later, I took my younger brother to the store and ask my friend if he would play the Klipschorns for him. He looked sheepish and said he was banned from demoing them because he had flicked a piece of dust off the stylus while the amp was cranked and blew out both of the HF drivers. Even with his employee discount, he said, it was going to take him a while to pay off that little mistake. Let's hear your stories.
  8. I'm right there with you. It is hard for me to imagine the pain and suffering the Ukrainians are experiencing. Whatever sacrifice I make at the gas pump, the grocery store, or wherever else means nothing in comparison.
  9. WOW! Those are beautiful! Best of luck. I'm sure you are sorry to see them go.
  10. That thinking is going to get you in trouble...LOL
  11. If you reduce any one of the Width, Height, Resolution fields all of the others should reduce correspondingly and you will see the file size in the lower panel.
  12. I also use a Mac and agree that it could be easier. If you open your picture using Preview then go to Tools you should find a link to Adjust Size.
  13. If the file exceeds 2MB it simply will not accept it. You will need to reduce the size of the file. I think most delivered photo apps whether PC or Mac will allow you to reduce the file size easily.
  14. The room my system will be in is a total of 680 square feet and a little over 6,100 cubic feet, but it is not a typical configuration. The listening space is 17 X 18 with the speakers on the 17' wall. The left channel speaker has a side wall, but the right is open to the larger space. I've attached a PDF drawing of the room if anyone is interested. We haven't moved back into the house yet, so I don't know how it is going to sound and what problems I might encounter. Basement.pdf
  15. I'm veering a bit off topic, but... my last project before I retired was with the University of British Columbia. Unfortunately, I never made it to Vancouver Island, but it's on my list. You live in God's country.
  16. That is a beautiful amplifier. Maybe if I win the lottery. In the meantime, I'm thinking an ACA or two, a nice little tube amp (the Forum Project?), and my sweet $80 Class D amp should satisfy my 69 year old ears for a long time to come. Plus, I should be able to keep close to $20K in my pocket...which I will need for the heat I won't be generating. 😄
  17. Thanks to you guys, I actually understand this joke. 😄
  18. In the end, I think we all recognize that it should be about how the music sounds, not how it is produced. From reading various threads, I've come to realize that there is no one right formula. What trips my trigger might send someone else running for the off switch, and my goal needs to be finding what makes me smile. Just like any art. I like Little Feat, someone else likes Shostakovitch. We're both right...for ourselves. Sorry...we just went through a couple of hours of sever tornado watch, so I'm feeling particularly philosophical. Of course, the Russell's Reserve might have something to do with that. Cheers, friends!
  19. Ah...I was thinking that describes a "push-pull" amp.
  20. @Edgar LOL...you typed faster than I did. Thank you for the further explanations. This is very helpful!
  21. I want to see if I'm starting to actually absorb some of this stuff so please bear with me... If I understand correctly, a class A/B amp will operate in class A up to a certain point then switch to class B which will push the tube or transistors at less than the maximum level which will reduce the heat and (may) reduce the quality of the output signal somewhat. Also, if I'm correctly understanding something the Captain said in the Cheap Forum Amp thread, there is some distortion introduced at the point the amp transitions from class A to B. However, from what I'm understanding from the Amplifier Power Requirement thread, our highly efficient Klipsch speakers require so little power, most A/B amps will be operating in class A for most listening needs. Please correct any misunderstandings.
  22. Is this also true of Class A tube amps?
  23. I'm in the same boat. I need to find an Electronics for Dummies book to gain understanding of even the basics. I read the Captain's explanation and understand that linear and switching amps work differently to amplify a signal, but that is about as much as I comprehend. This is why I love reading what all these smart people say in the various forum threads because I am learning...maybe not much and not fast, but I understand more than I did six months ago.
