  1. Yes, I have 3 SET amps from Welborne Labs.... A 45, 2A3 and a 300B.....I also have Modified Khorns....I have a Rel Strata III Sub.....It does give a 'texture' to the sound.....Sometimes I turn it on....Rel Subs are pretty easy to integrate.
  2. Thanks for the comments Pat!....We should get together again. LT.....I think that Eric Alexander will make the 4.5s for you. Why Don't you call him up and talk to him. Ask him what his best sounding speaker is with your budget and your electronics. He is very approachable and offers a 30 day money back return policy, if his speakers are not your cup of tea. At the time I bought mine, his 4.5s were the best bang for the buck that he had. You can always come over and listen to mine driven by a pair of SET amps, to see how they sound.
  3. I have Khorns and also an Amazing Single Driver Speaker....The Tektin 4.5.....The Tekton's would be quite suitable for me if I did not have room for the Khorns. Add a Subwoofer and the Little Tekton's do about 90% of what the Khorns can do. They don't take up much room and fill the room with great music. They can also be driven with SET amps, as they are quite efficient.
  4. If you would like to hear some amazing Tekton 4.5s that can be had for $300 a pair, you can listen to mine. I am located in Plymouth MN. -- Just 10 miles west of Downtown Minneapolis. I drive them with SET amps from 1.8 watts to 3.5 watts per channel.
  5. Careful...you might not get it back. Actually, he doesn't need to worry too much. I already have the Trends Micro Chip amp, which won a Shootout among Digital Amps a few years ago. If you'd like to read the shootout the link is here. http://www.stereomojo.com/SHOOTOUT2007INTEGRATEDS.htm I will say that I preferred the sound of the smaller Trends Micro over the Pany Receiver. With that said, chip amps cannot come close to a 45 or 2A3 SET amp. They are good for what they are, but SET amps and Chip amps are in completely different leagues.
  6. Thanks for the kind comments J.J. !...........Also my listening room is always open to any forum member who happens to be live or visit in the Minneapolis Area. As for my impressions of the Pany Chip Amp, is that it sounds a lot like the Trend Chip that I have.......While very good, it is missing the 'Tube Bloom' of a SET amp.
  7. The Khorns and Moondogs are a Great Combination, as I also have a Set. One thing you might want to do is build a Set of Type "A" crossovers, which I believe sound better than AAs. Also It would not hurt to have some Fresh Capacitors. Also, If you have enough room to "buy more klipschorns", your might want to consider getting a pair of Jubliees. Others here have said that they are a step above Khorns. Have not heard them myself.
  8. If I was in your shoes (Which I have been), I would look at a 2A3 or 45 SET Amp. Bottlehead has some on-line offerings at very reasonable prices.
  9. If you can't tell the difference between speakers, just buy a pair of "accurate' Studio Monitors and be done with it. Thats what a lot of studio folks use for monitors. For myself, I prefer large horn systems, where I can defineitely tell a difference from Accurate Studio Monitors. To each his own! Amps, Sure all amps sound the same! Not!
  10. It's been demonstrated with cables.......Speakers and amps are easily distinguishable.
  11. Lobsters? Seriously ?........I live in the Twin Cities.......10 miles west of Downtown Minneapolis......I have lots of SET amps 45, 2A3, 300B, ....As well as loads of Solid State, A chip amp, Push Pull etc. Where are you at?
  12. Horns = Clarity, Speed and Dynamics. Once you get used to horn speakers, others usually fall short. Also, Horns Love Tubes
  13. Dean, I am shocked as well....We have never met, but we have spoke over the phone and you have helped me alot. I wish you the best of luck in this.
  14. Yeah, I have to know where the 73 lbs. comes from. Is the chassis made out of lead?
  15. If you read the original post, the OP had already ruled out a gound loop. Ground Loops are not necessarily the fault of the gear......There are a lot of factors at work here. Some are not avoidable. The manufacturer does not know how you are going to hook up the gear. Grounding issues are certainly not unique to Rogue....
  16. If you want a high power tube amp, I'd send the amp back, and buy one of Craig's NOS Valves amps. Craig has already responded here and he has many happy customers. BTW - I would definitely re-do the connections on your speakers. That DIY job is just "Not Right".....Simple to do correctly. Get it done!
  17. Since you live in Minnesota and I reside just 8 miles west of Downtown Minneapolis......... If you want to try out a different pair of speakers that won't cost you anything, I will again send an invitation to you to hear a pair of Khorns with Altec Midrange horns at my place. I also have these in my basement, so It's something that you may want to consider. After decades of shopping systems and speakers, I heard speakers similar to these at a friends place, and I decided to pursue these. That was over 7 years ago and have not thought about replacing these speakers since. I also have 45,2A3 and 300B Welborne SET amps. It would be a good oppurtunity to hear a lot of different amps and Speakers (I have a pair of SIngle driver speakers as well). --- And the Beer is Cold and the wine is chilled! PM sent. Perhaps we can have a little party. Yes, PM returned.......and we will have a good time.......The beer is cold and the wine is chilled.......
  18. I have a Large Basement Room. It is about 25'x33' .....I have the Khorns set up so that they are about 21 feet apart. I sit between them and about 12 feet back. The Altec 1005B horns provide such a wide dispersion pattern, they actually intigrate nicely most anywhere in the room. Since I never tried the Khorn Top Hats, I cannot compare them. When I bought the Khorns, I immedialtely installed the 1005B horns. I had them at my firends house with the Altec Horns and his Top Hats and the Altec Horns sounded so much better that it sealed the deal for me. Yes, I am still set u as a Three Way and I am still using the K77 Tweeter. I tried a B&C Tweeter once, but I could not tell much of a difference. I buit a custom single order Crossover with Dean Wescott doing the design. Here is the picture of my Listening room, before I had the Horns Painted Gold.

  20. I am sold on the Squeezebox Touch for its Versatility and adaptablity. I own 3 of them. All of my media is stored on a Super Fast, Super Quiet, Custom PC. Intel Quad Core i7-2600 3.4 Ghz Sandy River, 16gb of ram, 2.5 TB of Disk... Blah, Blah Blah.......The nice thing about the Squeezebox is the PC is located upstairs and the listening room is downstairs.....Squeezebox does the streaming into a DAC.
  21. I don't even have a balance control. MyTube Pre-amp has left and right volume controls. I set them about the same. If one is too loud, I back it off a bit until it sounds right.
