  1. A normal surge protector won't stop damage done by a consistently high level of voltage. A friend of mine lives in a neighborhood where they get anywhere from 120 to 130VAC out of the wall outlets. I however did not know this at the time when I lent my Trace Elliot bass amp to said friend. One day the amp just decided to stop working My dad soldered in some new output transistors and all was well, until the next summer when I lent the amp to my friend again and the same thing happened. It was about this time that I learned of the power condition in their neighborhood. This time however something else is gone besides the output transistors Luckily that is no longer my main amp. Peace, Josh

  3. So, Mine are worse than both of you guys rooms subtracted from each other Peace, Josh
  4. Justin, Using only the aux inputs is such a waste I "discovered" vinyl yesterday, after just a few 45rpm singles and miles davis "kind of blue" it is already going to be hard to listen to my CD's. The sound of vinyl is wonderful, cymbals are crisp without any of the aliasing that happens on CD. The notes of an electric guitar are so well defined I can't believe what I was missing. Maybe just maybe DVD audio or SACD sounds this good, but those are not yet available for $5 down at the used music store. Peace, Josh
  5. My goodness you guys are harsh. There are some subjects on which I am fairly well versed and occasionally(at school) I meet someone who likes to show off their knowledge on the same subject. Even when I know more then these people and I disagree with their point of view I would not be so arrogant as to say "blow it out your ***" It is a very childish personality who resorts to name calling with people he does not even know. It is great if you have a lot(and I mean a LOT) of knowledge about audio and room acoustics. However we are still dealing with personal tastes when it comes to the reproduction of sound, this is why some people buy klipsch and some don't, some people don't like horn speakers and some do. Regardless of what is a scientifically accurate reproduction of sound to certain people some speakers sound "better". I know I have a cheap(relatively speaking) system and a "bad" room to listen in. I still enjoy listening to music very much, indeed it has become my main pastime while at school. You can not even begin to compare the amount of listening pleasure to a persons scientific audio knowledge or the amount they spend on their system. Just my 2 cents. Peace, Josh
  6. Don't worry fini, You are not paranoid. Paranoia is a false fear. However WE REALLY ARE WATCHING. Peace, J......
  7. HDBRbuilder, I checked the fuses, looked at the inside(which was spotless), checked the pots(which also seem perfect), and I have been careful about powering it on with the speakers switched off and such. Some friends of mine and I went to "Rock and Roll Heaven" a used record store here in orlando this afternoon after our test(yep a test on a saturday). I picked up some 45's pretty cheap. Creedence Clearwater Revival, A "travelin band", B "who'll stop the rain" Red Hot Chili Peppers, "soul to squeeze" My friends were floored by the sound, "dude thats so freakin warm and fat sounding" was just one of the comments. I am very happy with this amp, It looks like it was never used. It is definately a bass machine, very rich and deep sounding without being boomy. Peace, Josh
  8. Hehe, I knew someone alse would get hooked. I got my HK430 about 7:30 last night(late night for the delivery guys) and I hooked up my heresies. I've been listening to a CCR CD a friend of mine let me borrow. It sounds like a million bucks $90 for the HK430, $300 for the Heresies, $300 for my ps2 which is my CD player. $690 and it sounds incredible. I am one happy camper. Peace, Josh
  9. That remote would be really sweet . Peace, Josh
  10. Try this, http://manuals.harman.com/HK/Owner%27s%20Manual/430om.pdf Peace, Josh
  11. It looks like the partsexpress amp has a variable crossover from 40 to 160Hz @ 12dB/octave. That should work fine since it has stereo rca jacks for the input. As far as I have been able to tell with a test tone CD and an SPL meter the heresies start dropping out at about 65Hz so you ought to be able to adjust the crossover on the amp with no trouble at all. Peace, Josh
  12. Ok, I just looked at the manual for the HK/430 on the Harmon website. I would think that you could use one of the tape outputs to send to the partsexpress sub amp. This should work fine if the sub amp has a buit in crossover(which I think it does). I hope this helps Peace, Josh
  13. I'm not sure dude, Does the HK/430 have any sort of preamp out on it at all, a tape loop or anything of that sort. If it does I would just use that, If not I guess I would go for a seperate preamp or something which I could use to send a signal to the sub. btw, are you gonna have room for a sonosub behemoth at college? Peace, Josh
  14. Seriously though I really would like to hear some of Bruce Edgar's work. I have heard consistently good things about his horn speakers. I think sometimes the problem with a three way design like most of the Heritage series is that your image gets stretched vertically due to the three drivers. A two way on the other hand is more localized vertically. That being said I do think that the Klipsh image rather well. Just my 2 cents. Peace, Josh
  15. Justins picture does look like a different amp than what is pictured on the audiogon site. The pics I have seen of the 120 in the past looked like it was a flatter design, only about 2 rack spaces high perhaps. Peace, Josh
  16. Hi Jim, My Heresies cost $70 to have them shipped from tucson AR to Orlando FL. Shipping was FedEx ground. FedEx seems to do a good job, Just make sure they are packed well. My speakers were packed with a layer of cardboard around the speakers, there were pieces of foam glued to the cardboard to keep it centered in the outer box. I hope things work out for you. Peace, Josh
  17. "or maybe if that same person had his/her head stuffed way up into his/her...well...um...er..." Yeah well, but what can you do Peace, Josh
  18. Thats right Orange Peel, 120db will damage your hearing over a period of time. Most measurement scales consider 120db to be the point at which hearing damage starts. This is why I was so glad to find out that when I was watching EpisodeII and it was really loud I was only getting 110db. Just be careful with your hearing, It's not something you can get back once it's gone. Peace, Josh
  19. Well right now I've been listening in 5 channel stereo mode. I currently have my JBL's hooked up as my mains, the heresies as surrounds and my KSC-C1 as center(duh). The only thing odd about this is that I have all speakers in front of my couch. The JBL's which despite having only an 8" woofer hit considerably lower than the heresies, are upside down on top of the heresies. At first I had the JBL's the right way up but having the two sets of tweeters that far apart made the soundstage seem rather vague. Listening this way gives me the bass of the JBL's and the midrange presence and high end accuracy of the Klipsch. I guess my next step is to eventually get a nice sub that would go well with the heresies so I can use them as my mains. btw, Justin How much sound do your headphones block out? Peace, Josh
  20. I feel your pain justin, As a little kid I had trouble with asthma and a milk allergy. Lol I was born in wisconsin and I was allergic to milk. Everytime I drank a glass of milk or had some ice cream it got kind of hard to breathe. I had pneumonia(sp?) 3 times when I was little and bronchitis more times than I can remember. I've been on a bunch of antibiotics and steroids a number of times. The good news is I grew out of my milk allergy and my asthma. Hang in there buddy and listen to some good music on those speaks you got, music is very therapuetic. btw, I think less's brew might be one of those cases where the cure is worse than the disease Peace, Josh
  21. Well I don't have a real sub at all(maybe someday). For the time being though I'm using my GK electric bass amp as a sub. 380 watts into 2x10" speakers in a slot ported cabinet is not two bad. As far as I can tell with a BassMekanik test tone CD and an SPL meter it hits solid down to somewhere around 25Hz to 30Hz or so. Some day I will have something like a DIY horn loaded monster, complete with twin JBL 2241G/H drivers. 98dB @ 1W 1m 30Hz-3KHz 15lb magnet structure I like the specs on this driver except the $500.00 price tag, oh well once i'm rich and famous. Peace, Josh
  22. Hi justin, I sure did, It's not here yet though. Maybe later this week. Peace, Josh
  23. JBL L46's A nice two way if ever there was one. Peace, Josh
  24. Looks like one of the solid state Dynaco's. I could be wrong though. Peace, Josh
