    Let’s go!!!!
  2. You aren’t clear on what you are defining as “digital music”. Compressed formats such as streaming and mp3 can be very different from CD etc.
  3. Id be curious to know what the EQ curves applied by the dspeaker device actually looked like. Roys recommended PEQ with a Q:8 is very narrow centered on 148hz.
  4. I would pull the white electrical tape off and check the (hopefully) soldered joints where the capacitors were replaced. Is the noise happening on both sides? If you think it’s the midrange you could try swapping the midrange drivers and see if the issue follows the driver to the other speaker. Sometimes if the driver isn’t screwed in snugly, or the gasket is dried up and hard, it can cause some odd buzzing with certain sounds. Is the distortion sound reproducible every time with a specific recording? Does the sound happen only when playing at a certain volume? In some cases the diodes in the tweeter protection circuit can be going bad and cause some irregularities in the response. If the crossover is wired up correctly, and you aren’t cranking a ton of power through the LS, then it should be safe to temporarily disable the tweeter protection by unbolting one of the diodes from the metal bracket. you would want to make sure the unbolted part was isolated and not going to short out against anything.
  5. At work I’ve got two separate 1Gbps fiber connections that each feed into their own switch. The switches are then cross connected to each other and then into a high availability pair of firewalls for a pretty decent amount of redundancy. If either of the ISP’s, either of the switches, or either of the firewalls goes down, we might miss a few packets but the folks on campus typically won’t notice a thing. I’ve started setting up our remote offices with dual VPN tunnels back to campus, one over each ISP. Routing through the VPN tunnels is managed via an SD-WAN zone. I have some SLA rules set up to monitor the individual tunnels so if one gets slow it will automatically route through the one with the better connection. Again, it usually switches fast enough the folks at the remote office barely even notice.
  6. 350Mbps down 12Mbps up on Spectrum coax.
  7. I think the last time I sold a painting it was a still life of cardboard boxes and it went for around $320.
  8. Our meeting tomorrow has been changed to a virtual get together on account of the weather. I may go out for fajitas by myself after the meeting.
  9. We’ve got a two hour delay for the kid’s school in the morning, possible cancelation if things get bad enough. I’m supposed to drive down the mountain to Statesville for a dept meeting on Wednesday, I guess I’ll see how things are by then. For said meeting, my boss messaged us today asking about suggestions for lunch. The Dominican girl that works for us and I both quickly piped up and suggested the local Mexican place. We quickly got another couple votes for the Mexican place the dept chat. At that point the boss dropped the link to order on DoorDash and told us to let him know what we wanted to order. Why choose Mexican food if you can’t sit around stuffing your face with chips and salsa while you wait for your food to be delivered hot and sizzling fresh to your table?
  10. I should start painting again.
  11. I have an AIMS PA head that uses KT88/6550s. it needs some work.
  12. The Amperex Bugle boy 12AX7’s sounded even better but they didn’t last very long in the V1 spot in the MkIII.
  13. My old Mesa Boogie had whatever the contemporary Mesa branded 6L6 and EL34 were that Mike Bendinelli put in it during its last service. I never got around to swapping them out for anything else. the preamp tubes were a different story. I ended up with a box full of vintage RCA black plate 12AX7 that I pulled out of a bunch of lab equipment they were tossing at work. The RCA tubes sounded a million times(subjectively) better than the mesa branded (Sovtek?)12ax7.
  14. You are definitely a spammer account.
  15. This is a basic simulation of the LS bass horn in Hornresp. The K33 is in light gray and I’ve plotted the exact same horn in black but substituted the driver specs for those of the Eminence Kappa 15C. as you can see, both drivers show a peak in the 150Hz region with the 15C showing less of a drop in output. You will also note that the 15C gives up a little on the low end to the K33. Even if the sidewalls aren’t resonating(much) there is still going to be that peak in the response which will really honk if given the right(wrong) source material. This peak in the 150Hz region is well documented, and even showed up in the response curves from the stereophile review of the AL-5. Before anybody has a chance to try to pretend that I’m making this up, and that the stereophile measurements aren’t valid(I’m looking at you @OO1 ), I would like to remind you that Roy himself posted the following EQ settings for use with the LS bass section when using an active DSP crossover. 87hz, Q:3.5, +5dB 148Hz, Q:8, -7dB 380Hz, Q:5.5, +2dB I think it’s hard to realize what you are missing until you have a chance to hear the LS bass without that peak.
  16. Dec 28, 2005 I ran into town with my younger brother Zachary to try to find some things at the store. Gifts that I hadn't quite had time to purchase before Christmas rolled around due to how busy things were at the house with Mom being sick. The store was closed anyway so I'd have to wait until after new years. My cell phone rang, an indestructible Kyocera that I'd gotten a a year and a half earlier when the old Motorola had died while everyone was out west for A.G.'s graduation. It was the home number but when I picked up it was my uncle George, " I'm sorry son, She's gone." I told him we'd be there in a little while and hung up. Zachary and I said a word or two and then drove the rest of the way home in near silence. Earlier in the week Zachary and I had been at the house when Mom woke up from one of her many naps. She wasn't feeling well started yelling and trying to remove her catheter. We went in and helped her sit up on the edge of the bed and I put my arms around her in a big hug and tried to hold her still. Because of the tumors that had been growing in her brain it had been some time since she was able to form coherent sentences. She babbled some gibberish for a few minutes before seeming to calm down. I gave her a squeeze and she looked up at me and Zachary and as clear as ever said "I want you to know that I love you. I always will love you."
  17. I normally make some roast duck for Christmas dinner. We had cracked open a ham on Christmas Eve so I didn’t end up making the duck until yesterday. Brined in a pineapple-orange juice and fresh Thyme mixture and then steamed before a high temp sear in a cast iron skillet in the oven. Shallots and Chard were then cooked in a balsamic glaze made from the pan drippings.
  18. It’s kinda funny, almost every time I tell @Marvel about some annoying/goofy things the kids are doing, he just kinda laughs and says it sounds familiar.
  19. Making some sawdust. It’s not a Cornwall.
  20. My buddy DJ’d a dance party at our local spot Saturday night. We had a good time but we were out way too late. yesterday afternoon I stopped by my other friends wood shop and we started putting a dent in a bottle of Angel’s Envy that our pastor gave him as a way of saying thanks for making coffee after church each Sunday. It’s pretty good stuff. This morning we got up and went to the Christmas mass and then came home and opened presents. the kids and I are adding to the ever growing fleet of Star Wars LEGO ships. Merry Christmas everyone! I hope your day is enjoyable and full of peace.
  21. My oldest turned 15 today and requested some pasta for his birthday dinner. Bucatini Carbonara to be specific.
