  1. I just tried out the used K-55-V I got on ebay for $5. It is running in one of my heresies right now but is propably just going to sit on the shelf in case I ever need a replacement. The one I just bought is the model with the spring clips, I have seen some posts on here making comments as how the ones with the solder terminals are better. To what degree do these differ? The Drivers that came in my Heresies(1981) are the solder type and listening to them side by side with the spring clip model I don't know that I can hear a difference. Oh well I figure even for the spring clip model $5 is not too bad a deal. Peace, Josh
  2. Hmm, On my first date with an older klipsch speaker I will usually start out with a movie and some easy listening music. If it seems like things are working out after a while I will gradually move up to the louder more demanding music that the neighbors can hear. Peace, Josh
  3. I guess annoying the roomate is a big part of the problem here. As far as mounting goes I guess duct tape would work Peace, Josh

That is a good one but I'm still partial to "Vital Signs" Peace, Josh
  5. m00n, I'd be interested to know what you think of "vapor trails" I think this is still rush's newest album. I guess I'm not what you would call a big rush fan because I only have two of their albums(Vapor Trails and Moving Pictures). Peace, Josh
  6. I used to work at a movie theater and my popcorn was better then anybody elses. After so much popcorn at the theater I have just not been a big fan of the stuff. About a year before I started working at the theater apparently the city manager decided he needed a better home theater. He started taking home supplies and even went so far as to steal a fullsize popcorn popper a mucho mucho expensive film projector and a short row of the stadium seats the theater had as spares. It all makes me wonder what kind of speakers he had Peace, Josh
  7. With some sensitive speakers I guess you wouldn't have to worry that much about driving the amp into clipping. Even on the less sensitive heresies 50 watts is mighty loud. Peace, Josh
  8. Kelly, I'm not sure if this is quite the same amp as you have in mind. The one I have does not have seperate taps for different impedences. It has two sets of speaker outputs and a switch on the back that is for 8ohms and lower or High impedence(always over 8ohms). When it stops working the protection led does not come on. The led does work however because it is on during power up to keep from sending a pop to the speakers I would guess. I opened the case and their were two resistors that had visably darkened a small portion of the surrounding curcuit board and were considerably warmer than the other components. I'm not really worried about having it fixed since it was only a few bucks. Peace, Josh
  9. Honestly I think the H/K 430 sounds great. I do however think that one of it's strengths is also the basis for one of it's possible weaknesses. The warmth which makes it so pleasurable to listen to is wonderful. To my ears this same warmth and the roundness to the bass also sounds not quite as well defined as I would like it to. Certain songs have a softness to them that is not experienced on my yamaha receiver. The softness is not entirely appreciated, the yamaha HTR-5540 reciever gives as has been noted by others a sound that tends toward bright and perhaps not particularly smooth on the top end. At this point while a hard choice, I have switched the yamaha back as my main amp with the H/K in my bedroom on my jbl's. I have very little experience with different amplifiers and do not have a great pile of other amplifiers on hand to compare with the H/K. The only other stereo amp that I have is a NAD 3150 integrated that I picked up the other day at a yard sale for $3, the reason it was so cheap is that one channel of the power section cuts out after about five minutes apperently due to two resistors overheating. Because of this I am cautious of thinking that it sounds up to par even in those first five minutes. Btw, the NAD has twin transformers as well. These are just some of my thoughts on the amplifiers I have at hand so please take them as such. Peace, Josh
  10. Huh, NOZ has a big ol projector and screen. That boy doesn't need a bigger TV. I on the otherhand have a 14" toshiba. If any one of you would like to contribute to the TV's for Josh fund just let me know Peace, Josh
  11. My little brother has a Bach strad from the mid eighties I think. He also just recently got a flugelhorn but I haven't seen or heard it yet as I am 500 miles away. A cool jazz player who I got to see live is Nicholas Payton(sp?). As I call them the "blatty things" are cool. Peace, Josh
  12. Justin, Where did you see that Direct Stream Digital(DSD) was used for DVD-A?? All I had heard indicated that DVD-A used a type of PCM encoding. If I remember correctly DSD is used for SACD's and is an entirely different type of encoding then PCM. Peace, Josh
  13. On more then one occasion the powers that be (bobg) have stated that the RF7 is still the king of the reference line. The .5 additions to the refference line will merely augment the series not replace it. Peace, Josh
  14. I have a dell dimension with an IBM deskstar drive in it. This computer is about 3 and a half years old and it seems to be doing just fine. I've added more ram, a faster processor(pIII 500Mhz to pIII 750Mhz) and thats about it. I have not once in the past three years reformatted my drive, and I have only defragged it about 5 times. What can I say, It's been a good comp although not anywhere nearas fast as my dual amd 1.4Ghz I put together a year ago. Peace, Josh
  15. jtkinney, I have "back in black" and " you shook me all night long" as the A/B sides of a 45rpm single. Those both sound great on my heresies cranked up to about 95dB or so. Any louder then that and I have to leave the room. When I want to listen to something goofy I listen to some jpop by Ayumi Hamasaki I also have some japanese punk songs which are recorded fairly bad but are some funny songs(in english). Peace, Josh
  16. A transperent object is defined by it's environment. The reflection on the horn is what we are seeing. I prefer the look of black horns mounted in wood boxes. That thing looks like it would go with an imac, that style of industrial design has no business in my house. It seems to me it would be hard to convince the wife that it looked like fine furniture, a walnut khorn on the other hand... Peace, Josh
  17. These speakers are actually a genuine klipsch product. A year or two ago in an attempt to reach a larger market, klipsch in their infinite wisdom produced a limited edition run of the now rare and sought after Lucky Charms reference series. These speakers were available for a few thousand boxtops apiece. Few of the speakers remain today however as a klipsch spokesman stated in a recent interview that a small gentleman in a green outfit was believed to have broken into the klipsch factory and made off with the entire production run. There were some(namely bobg) who imediately placed the blame on the bass hungry evil EAR. It seems however the evil EAR had an alibi for the night in question however, he was seen at his hometown hifi store buying out their stock of available reference series subwoofers. As it stands these speakers are now worth some serious $$$$ If you see a pair of these at an estate sale, do not hesitate to buy them at whatever the price. You will then have a truly rare pair of klipsch speakers. Just be on the lookout for little green men. Peace, Josh
  18. The FM reception is great. I too use mine for mainly listening to a local jazz station at night(wucf orlando). I first turned it on and started picking up the usual local stations with a good sound. Then I realized I didn't have an antaenna(sp) hooked up, with a cheap antaenna from radio shack it's great. This is in my apartment which is more like a concrete block bunker then an apt. building. My cell phone barely has any reception at all when I'm inside(different wavelengths I know). The power rating on the 430 is 25watts I think which on even the not as efficient heresies is plenty loud. The 430 is also a twin power design which means it has a seperate transformer for each channel, this being what many attribute to giving the 430 it's clean sound. Peace, Josh
  19. My loyalty to any speaker company goes about as far as I can throw them JK, If that were the case I'd be a die-hard bose fanatic Actually my loyalty goes about as far as I can hear them. If I still hear a great sound coming out of these speakers(whatever they may be) I'll like them. Weather or not they are priced well comes into play as well as customer service. As I see it, liking the speaker and liking the company are two different things. Just for the record I really like JBL's older stuff. I've had good experiences with their customer support too. I sent JBL an email with some questions about my speakers because I couldn't find any info on their website. A day or two later somebody responded to my email by calling me up and telling me all they knew about my speakers. I thought that was pretty cool. My klipsch are all second(or third or fourth) hand yet they work great so I've never had to call klipsch. Also I have been able to get all the info I need right here on the forum Peace, Josh
  20. Prodj101, Lol, your sig reminds me of the way my little brother makes tea. Oh well, gotta go. The blood level in my caffiene is a little high, I need some coffee. Peace, Josh
  21. The RF3II's look like they would go pretty low. I would think that most of the time your sub wouldn't have to be doing anything at all. Most albums don't have much info recorded that low. If you are turning up the volume an your sub to where you can hear it on most recordings it would make sense that it would stand out. As far as blending with the main speakers goes sometimes less is more. There are test tone cd's available that you can use to set the levels on your subwoofer and main speakers. A lot of times when setting the levels by ear it is easy to have the sub set to loud. Peace, Josh

  23. That's it you're FIRED. JK JBL makes some nice stuff. Having some JBL speakers is not as odd as maxg preferring his Sansui over his heresy(he has since changed his mind). I had my klipsch center channel between my JBL L46 and it was noticably brighter and more in your face then the JBL. Now of course I have my heresies and it's a better match although not perfect. Peace, Josh
  24. Justin, Yep, marvel is my dad. It's his fault I'm interested in speakers and such, but that's a good thing. He doesn't have any klipsch yet, but he does have some nice JBL's. Btw, I think the expochem site is really nice. It's very easy on the eyes yet retains a sense of detail and visual interest, and on my DSL it is very fast Next month I have a class called Fundamentals of Web Design so I'm sure I'll be getting plenty of html code crammed into my brain. Peace, Josh
  25. I had some 12" square paving stones that I used with my JBL L46 speakers before I got my Heresies. I had one underneath and one on top of each speaker with some vinyl strips between to protect against scratches. The bass did clear up a little bit when I did this, It was my impression that the bass was kind of muddy beforehand and that the speakers were kind of floating on the carpet. Peace, Josh
