  1. Here is a page with some old articles on it. Again, as Gill said, I am not sure about copyrights. http://www.hifilit.com/
  2. SCOOTERDOG: Your cad drawing looks like my custom center. However, I just had to build a few before I got it right, as I had no cad help. My first one was built the same internal size as the Heresy box, and sounded real bad. This one the right size recommended (by a speaker cabinet builder) for the Infinity drivers. It matches my Belle's very well. I still have to put a finish & grill cloth on it.
  3. I have been using a TiVo with DirecTV built in for over 2 years now, & I also can't live without it. I bought it mainly because it has the digital out, so I get movie channels in Dolby Digital. When I bought it, Circuit City was running a special for $99. It was actually cheaper that a plain DirecTV receiver with Digital out. I added 2 120 gig drives into it, so it now holds 224 hours of recordings. At last count, I had over 60 movies saved on it.
  4. They actually sold for $1200. WOW! ... Only one bider though!
  5. Here is an option... it uses the USB connector to connect to your receiver optical in. Its a direct shot, using the D/A converter in the receiver. Xitel.com If you look around the page, they have a cheaper one that is designed for transfering files to a MP3 player. I am currently using the SBLive digital out. It is good enough for casual listening. I tried the analog out, & it was pretty bad.
  6. I was aware that it was not you .. I saw that you were in Florida. I just thought it was interesting to make that connection. Unfortunately, we have searched both houses, & are unable to find it. This is strange, because we all remember seeing it hanging up somewhere.... Now we just need to find out where.
  7. AH! ... Question answered!.. thanks. That was driving me nuts. Anyway, back to the orignal topic, I would bet the Luxman would drive the new speakers great. I even just pulled my M-111 amp out of storage just to play, & now I remember why I bought it. It really does have a great sound. In fact, I noticed the high end was cleaner than my Adcom (verifing what many on this forum say about low-powered amps). I just knew joining this forum was going to cost me $$$
  8. If you do a Google search for "Luxman A-357" (with the quotes), you get 4 pages, all in another language. One of the pages (http://club.idecnet.com/~modegar/guia/amplificador.htm) shows a date of June-98. I would guess it was only available overseas. How long have you had this amp, & where did you get it?
  9. JT: I had one of those silhouette pictures done of my family when we were in Disneyland back in 89. I believe it is hanging up in my ex-wife's house. I will try to get a pic of it. My daughters were 3 & 5 at the time. We get asked about it all the time.
  10. Thats amazing, being that many years apart. The only difference I can see is on yours, on the control flip down at the top middle of the pic, there is a small button, where mine has a embedded slot. Identical otherwise.
  11. In the original, un-cropped picture, are the records stacked up against a player piano? It looks just like my 1914 Aeoleon.
  12. I was unable to find any information on the Luxman amp you listed, but in my experience, any Luxman (or even the HK) would be a good option for the Klipsch speakers you are looking at. Again, JT is right.... do the leg work. Most shops should let you bring them home for a demo in your own home, with your equipment. It will be worth the effort.
  13. I like the one placed against the fridge.... I am guessing you like scrambled eggs & milkshakes
  14. What kind of surround processor are you trying to use? I had the same problem with my Onkyo receiver. When the sub is set to active, the mains loose all low end, no matter if the mains are set to large or small. A call to Onkyo confirmed the problem, & it was fixed on the next model.
  15. I still own a Luxman M-111 (25wpc x4) that I bought in 91. It has a excellent sound. I bought it for around $300, & 10 years later it sells on Ebay for $200. At the time, they were also making some very nice pro-logic pre-amps.
  16. I would do the Car sub thing, since you are only going to be waiting a few months. Then you can put the money towards a really good sub. I have heard the Sonys, & I think you would be disappointed. As a joke from a friend, I put an Infinity 12" sub into a Heresy cabinet I just emptied for my center channel project. It worked so well, I ended up making 2 of them, & driving them from the 2 unused 100wpc amps in my receiver.
  17. I also have an Onkyo Receiver (DS-777), and it also gets very hot even when the amps are not being used (I feed my main speakers through a seperate amp). I installed a 12v computer fan with an A/C adaptor, & it just pulls air out of the cabinet. If you put it directly into the case, dust becomes a major problem. I looked at the setup that minn male was using, & it looks better. It makes a very neat setup. Believe it or not, in the other room I am using a low-end Pioneer VSX-D411, & it gets too hot to touch! Either way, keep it cool!

Get the bad woofer repaired and store it away somewhere for a future repair (unlikely but you never know) and as he points out it is a decent start toward a centre channel. ---------------- I am a big believer in Murphy's Law. That's why I had the spare for 10 years. Never needed it, but I figured as soon as it's gone, I would need it. As for using it for the center channel, I tried to figure out how to use the original 12" from my Heresy for my custom center on top of the projection TV. I was trying to figure out a cabinet where it was laying down at an angle, almost facing forward, with the horns under it, but its just too big! I can't even imagine using a 15".

  20. Michael: I am curious about the age of these headphones. If they are an older pair, say mid to late 80's, they should have a dedicated head amp with them. A few of the shops I used to work for carried Sennheiser, & they all had their own amp. If I remember right, they had a excellent sound, as well as a heavy price.

  22. I just looked up the USB to Optical adapter that came with my Sony MD recorder. It is from Xitel. They now have a pro version: Xitel.com I might have to try mine out & see how it sounds. I have not been happy with my current computer link.
  23. HP also is building one. The difference is that the HP does not have a display, so your TV has to be on. HP EN5000 I have seen at least 5 reviews of this unit, but not one has said anything about the sound quality.
  24. I found the Harmon priced at $149. Here is one from Sound Pro It is only $35. Since this only transfers digital data to the receiver, I would guess it is up the the receiver as to what it sounds like.
