  1. TSO is awsome. A couple other totaly differant types of Christmas music I like are Mariah Carrie's Christmas cd as well as Lorrie Morgans Christmas cd. Lorri Morgans has only like 5 songs but her version of My favorite things rivals Julie Andrews version and some think it is better. Just my 2 cents
  2. I have only recently gotten into DT myslef, but do have a bit of a jump on you. I own Train of Thought, Awake, Live at Budakon, Scenes from a Memory and Octavarium. Of those 5 I think my favorite is Train of Thought followed very closely by Scenes from a Memory. I havent purchased any Liquid Tension yet, but I hear they whip some tail also. If you like DT you might also like a disk from a super group called OSI, Portnoy plays drums on it as well as a couple disks for Neal Morris and his stuff is good. There is a lot of Prog Metal out there and a ton of it I have never listened too. Tool falls under that category as well as Queensrych FWIW (just to throw out a couple of names people might be more familier with).

My favorite is still Pink Floyds DSOTM as well, but I have several others that I enjoy as well. Both Nickel Creek SACD's are awsome as is Eltons Johns self titled SACD.
  4. Be Cool was very entertaining to me as well. I chuckled throught the movie especially Cedrics and Andrew Benjamins character. Cedrics and Benjamins character to me were every bit as entertaining if not more so than Uma's and Travolta's. Throw in a gay Rock and you have one pretty funny movie. That Rock is not a bad actor at all.
  5. I just recently discovered a very young and talented artist named Jonny Lang. I would suggest that in addition to B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
  6. Just curious if anyone here has imported a DVD-A? I am asking because I have found a Maiden DVD-A that I am very interested in. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000C83KH/qid=1117760298/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/026-4942549-7965258 Amazon.co.uk Review The release of Dance of Death, Iron Maiden's 13th studio album, comes at a most fortuitous time. Fortuitous for them, because in 2003--after years of struggle--rock has fought its way back to the top of the UK charts (thanks, in large part, to the success of The Darkness). Fortuitous for us, because Dance of Death ably demonstrates why, amongst the Monsters of Rock pantheon, Iron Maiden are the Godzilla. With singer Bruce Dickenson and guitarist Adrian Smith now firmly re-entrenched after returning for their previous album, Brave New World, Iron Maiden seem newly reinvigorated. Dance of Death sounds like classic Maiden--in particular Seventh Son of a Seventh Son--right down to the over-the-top production. It kicks off at breakneck speed with first single "Wildest Dreams", builds to a crescendo by track three (the anthemic "No More Lies"), and for the most part, maintains this pace throughout the album, pausing only briefly for the slow build of the title track or the orchestra-laden, battlefield epic "Paschendale". Dickinson's overwrought vocals add gravity to apocalyptic lyrics that would descend into irony or outright silliness at the hands of a lesser band (who else could get away with the sound effect of a hawk's cry in the middle of a song?). These are serious men playing serious music, and after more than two decades, Iron Maiden can still teach the big-shorted yoof a thing or two about rock. With Dance of Death, Iron Maiden aren't just back, they're back on top. --Robert Burrow

    The Aviator

I was very impressed with the movie and the acting, it's one of the few I have seen in the theater in the past couple of years so I was waiting for the DVD and the transfer is as good as I remember the theater version.
  8. I demoed a KSW 12 if I am remembering correct and a RSW 15. I own an old SW 8 shivering in the corner, so you are right thats not really in the same league.

  10. I am suggesting that the RSW15 was boomier and not as tight. The 15 isnt crap, but as a consumer and a Klipsch fan I was dissapointed that anything cheaper was that much better. Don't let the fact that it is 3" bigger fool you into thinking it is better. Size matters, but the 12" SVS is a much truer(sp?) sounding sub with less boom and much tighter bass. I will try to find a more objective comparison than my impression, but I am telling you I was not impressed with the RSW-15. I also owned a PW2200 Paradigm and sold it shortly after getting my SVS. The Digm suffered from some of the same things that plague the Klipsch.
  11. Not to start anything here but I have owned a Klipsch sub and demoed others that were alot more than my 20-39PC+ ($800.00) and the SVS was much tighter and offered cleaner deeper DB's with greater SPL than anything with in a grand of it that I compared, including the RSW-15. Now that THX I have never demoed and might be one heck of a sub, but I imagine it is very expensive and thats why I suggested the SVS because for the money I doubt it can be out done. For those that arent familier with SVS, it is an internet only company that only makes subs. They sell direct without a middleman and are more than happy to take your room specs, listening habits and budget to come up with the sub that's right for you. In fact the sub I wanted was more than the one I purchased, but the I purchased was what they suggested based on the information I gave them. I do not work for them, but I am a very loyal and happy customer of theirs. I do suggest demoing many brands, but you wont be able to demo a SVS unless you have a friend with one since they sell direct. They do have a 45 day return policy with 100% refund if you are not totaly satisfied although the cost of shipping it back is on you. I hope this helps and again sorry if this turns south into a debate about subs, most people are very biased, but of course I am completely objective as long as it's a SVS.
  12. And oh BTW, congrats on the awsome speakers. SVS will deliver a extremely high quality sub for significatnly less than the THX Sub. As far as the Power of the AVR, based on your post it sounds like you know you will need more to make those THX speakers really shine but specificly I do not know if that Denon would do to tide you over.

If the noise stays in the same speaker, then there is probably a good chance that it is not an amp or wire problem. -PB ---------------- Thats a great starting point. Narrow down the possabilities one step at a time and start with the easiest.
  14. Sounds good and what did you say it was about?
  15. I demoed the RF-7's using a B&K Ref 50, when I bought them I hooked them up with my then Yamaha Avr (can not recall the model, but it was an el cheapo) and then upgraded to the Rotel Rsp-1066 / RMB-1075 combo. The Yammi stated 75wpc but in real terms it was probably much lower. The Rotel is rated at 125 wpc. The differance between them was night and day. I would love to try the 1090 @ 200wpc or have often thought about a couple other brands offering 200wpc, but have never heard them. Based on my limited experiance I can only say the Rotel made my speakers sound 1000% better than the yami. Chalk that to power/quality/break in whatever you want, but there is no denying the differance. Oh and the B&K they were using was much closer to the Rotel, but the Rotel sounds much more detailed to me than that B&K did, but that might be the differance between in store and in home.
  16. Congrats on your purchase. Speakers are probably the biggest bang for the buck upgrade. I sure enjoy my 7's and I am sure you will enjoy your as well. What color did you choose?
  17. My son has read the series, so we went to see it at the theater. He really didnt like it at all, so we didnt puchase the movie. I thought it was intersting myslef and well made.
  18. Generaly I don't think you will appreciate a diffearnce at all, especially considering the short distance you are talking about. There might MIGHT be a measurable differance, but measurable and audible are two very differant things alltogether.
  19. Some great suggestions. If you have never watched the opening scene to American Outlaws it's fantastic. Many other not mentioned, Finding Nemo especially the "Darla" scene, but the movie is unreal all the way through as is the Incredibles. Both Ep I and Ep II of Star Wars. The Jurassic Park series have some fun moments. Fifth Element, Bourne Identity, both Spidermen, Cronicles of Riddick, Van Helsing, Gothika, Signs, T-2 and Black Hawk Down just to name a few. It really depends on the company and my mood.
  20. Guys I have done some pretty bad things in my life, none of which I am willing to share on an open forum but take my word for it. Purchasing Alone in he Dark at $19.99 ranks on the top 4 or 5 things of bad things I have done in the past 10 years or better. This movie is so pathetic in every way that I am having a hard time describing how bad this movie is. This movie is a disgrace to horror, low budget, sci fi and any other genre or category you want to claim. I really want to think Christian Slater is cool, but his presence in this movie shows just how desperate he was for work. One of this things that drove me to purchasing this piece of crap was that it offers 6.1 DTS EX and I thought well if nothing else it will sound good. Guys take my word for it boycot this movie, the sound effects arent that great and certainly not even worth a rental. This is by far the poorest 19.99 and 96 minutes of my HT life, scratch that, of my movie going life. This movie is 25 times worse than Adaptation because at least with Adaptation I only paid 10 bucs as it was used (still got ripped off). I almost never give criticle reviews because I am just too darn easy to please with movies, but this movie SUCKED. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS MOVIE THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE. Your miles wont vary, you will think it sucked so save your money and spend it on your girlfriend or wife...or both, but for the love of all things good in HT do not waste it on the pile of flee riddled cow dung.
  21. I have the RC-7 on top of my Mitsu WS-48515. Under the RC-7 I have a Board stained to match the AV center with rubber feet on the outer edges of the board so the weight of the RC center is spread out but really the bulk of it is on the edges of the TV where it is strongest. The board matches the width and depth of the top of the TV.
  22. Matt, CONGRATS! I didnt really scratch the surface on DVD-A since it was SACD we had discussed. Metalica was a great choice and while I wasnt very familier with Metalica at the time, everyone that is that I have demoed the DVD-A with was able to recognize imediatly some of the nuances. Another DVD-A that might offer the best mutichannel experiance of anything DVD-A that I own is Linkin Parks Reanimation disk. This is another group that I was very familier with, but the surround is nothing short of amazing. It is a remix of some of their other tunes and for me I prefer the reanimation mix to the originals in most cases. Chicago has two classics on DVD-A that I am a big fan of, but I really REALLY like their classic work. I have both Queens that are available, A Night at the Opera and The Game. Both are great disk's while not an overly fantastic multichannel mix, great music none the less. I have both Santana's, Shaman and Supernatural. Personaly I love these disks but like the queen they are not a overly agressive mix. Fleetwood Mac, Rumors...great...subtle it's Rumors you know what your getting. Aaron Nevil Devotion, fantastic Foreigner 4 and the self titled disk eh similar to the Queens, subtle Dr Chesky has one with a weird name, something like Weird, wonderfull silly and something. Anyway it is a multichannel disk and it is a must own for a demo disk. There is a section of a thunder storm that will blow your mind. Ohhh and by the way if your sub isnt up to par proceed with caution on this disk. Beach Boys, Pets Sounds is very good and clean sounding but they messed up the mix just a bit. The rear channel is a tad to hot and it does sound a bit off. It's nothing that can't be adjusted though and is great for content. Thatll get you going for now there are lots more. Get Reanimator and that Dr. Chesky if you can find them.
  23. I don't have a clue, but since I am off on Tuesday's...well I am a little off normaly, but you know. Anyway it works for me.
  24. One I neglected is Godsmack's "Other Side" similar to Bon Jovi this is a totaly new take on their music but makes for some nice music and does well in Multichannel. I have Aerosmiths "Toys in the Attic" and for me it wasnt the Multichannel experiance I had hoped. While a great disk, in terms of multichannel I felt this was a missed opportunity.
