  1. come on now. enough of the shoot 'em up. NCAA FOOTBALL 2004!!!
  2. i absolutely love my ref 50. extremely customizable (is that a word?). takes some time and effort to get the sound you want, but truly the best purchase i have ever made in hifi. i would love to have the 200.7, but i don't have the resources to do so. krell is extremely appealing, but as you have heard you will be able to splurge on the speakers by going b&k. either way you won't be dissappointed.
  3. thanks ear. what about the coin trick. have you seen it?
  4. EAR, i know you're the last word in subs, so where's that review of the ml depth & descent. i really want to hear what you think. i have heard them and one thing continues to amaze me. when you stand a coin up on top of the sub in the center, no matter how much you give it, it will not fall over. utterly amazing. the bass is quite nice to my ears. i want to get your take... in this lifetime.
  5. heard the cinema 8 & 10 today. sounds pretty awesome, but pricey. the sats are not traditional sats. they are huge. i mean huge when you compare them to the size of others. you may want to go w/the rw-12 or as others have recommended. the price tag is what bothers me. upwards of $1400 for the cinema 10. you can pick up def tech (which i was very impressed with the sound) and jamo (a great value) for about half that price. then you can add a pretty decent sub to bring your total to two subs for $1100- $1200. as you can see in my sig, i don't own anything other than klipsch, so if it were me in the market for a sat system i would reluctantly stroke a check for the klipsch even though there are much better deals out there.
  6. do you realize how much money rush made simply because of this thread??? it seems this forum may be the best way to market a dvd. i went out and bought the dvd even though my affection for rush is fairly lukewarm. i can't say as though it has lived up to the billing. don't get me wrong, it is a good dvd, but i was not blown away. i have experienced all of the above. i had rather hear geddy lee sing tom sawyer rather than hearing a million brazilians singing it, but nevertheless the music is quite good and neal peart is a drumming god as usual. it does amaze me, however, the strength of a recommendation on this forum.
  7. for me: jolida jd 300b for 2 channel system for my wife: krell theater amplifier standard for my son: martin logan descent sub for my daughter: 9 rc-7's for my neighbor: rsw-15 oh, and i get to keep them all.
  8. i agree. what sounds good to you is paramount. i just consulted with a friend on his ht. he liked the jamo's better than anything else. he was discouraged because he knew my equipment was exclusively klipsch. i told him if the jamo's sounded best to him to buy them. just because i prefer klipsch does not mean evryone will.
  9. this coming from a group that ranked old milwaukee as the best tasting beer. that alone should tell you something. the dude that rated them probably has klipsch in his ht. they hate everything i have. i mean everything, down to my cofee maker. i am the anti cr. i buy everything they say is crap. i can't complain about any of my "stuff".
  10. to max's point, don't most powered subs also have speaker level inputs? i know my m&k does, and that's exactly as i am using it. it sounds tremendous.
  11. i'm thinking of selling off my ht speakers to buy these. i feel quite sure my wife would love this setup. here's the link if any of you would rather have your wife and family enjoy these beauties. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3054599316&category=32861
  12. 24, but i agree that cold adult beverages should count for a lot more, especially if there is an adequate supply with multiple choices. who wants to come play in my sandbox?
  13. GROUND PROBLEMS! every opinion/fact listed above is true. i had a very annoying hum in my system so i: replaced outlet w/new hospital grade outlet, purchased monster powerbar 1100, unplugged ALL wire and reinstalled, and i STILL hear a hum every now and then which has in EVERY circumstance been traced back to my tv coax. proper grounding has been the biggest pain in my #^$(@&. it seems to endlessly haunt me!
  14. michael, exactly my point. i had no idea how inferior mp3 sound was until i got my ref 50 and denon dvm. for some reason my yamaha rxv-3000 masked the terrible sound somehow. the sound i get from my new gear is extraordinary from cd and extremely inconsistent with mp3. granted some mp3's sound good, but i was unaware of the inconsistency prior to my upgrade.
  15. this is sure to create lively discussion, but i believe "burn-in" to be way overrated. that is not to say that some, but not all pieces of equipment truly have a "burn-in" period before you experience remarkable sound. just keep in mind that many pieces of equipment should sound extraordinary right out of the box!
  16. nicholtl by looking at your system, i can tell you have experienced EXACTLY what i am experiencing now. going to quality separates is a HUGE difference in sound. have you seen or heard the omnifi. i wonder if this would make a difference in mp3 listening enjoyment? http://www.omnifimedia.com/home/
  17. Ear, i've been to see the big rat in orlando w/the family and was excited to get back to hear your review of the ml subs. any word???
  18. as usual i agree with marksdad. of all the respondents, i would benefit (alledgedly) from "smal" speaker settings at least on my mains and center, however, they can handle all you got! my ears bleed before my speakers distort. i cannot imagine setting my speakers to small.
  19. the descent has 3 10" woofers and the depth has 3 8" woofers, but don't let that fool you. these subs sound awesome when paired w/ logan speakers.
  20. i've been in this forum for long enough to not ask such a stupid question, but here it goes anyway. when i upgraded my equipment i guess i didn't know how substantial my upgrade was. there was a day when i could burn a 165 song mp3 disk, put it in my dvd player and enjoy hours of awesome sounding music from one disk! now since i've gone with separates and seriously upgraded the quality of my sound, when i play the same disk, many of the songs sound horrid. others sound fine. what am i experiencing and is there anything i can do to enjoy my music collection again???
  21. very interested to get your take ear. i have heard the descent several times with the ascent speakers. they sounded incredible, but very, very different from the rsw-12. i'm a big believer in matching the sub with the speakers. for instance my rb-5's sound great with the rsw-12 but rough with my m&k. likewise the sound was funky with a mirage sub i once owned. the descent matches the ascents with seamless beauty. you will be amazed that it is based with 8" woofers (about 100 i think). no kidding they've got a few in there. anyway i digress. we look forward to your take.
  22. i've got the rsw-12 and the m&k mx-90. they both rock! very loud, very clean, did i mention very loud? you can't go wrong with either. i would, however choose the 12 vs the 10.
  23. what's the real benefit or lack of benefit from hooking up the lfe?
  24. pardon me , i should have put this one on.
