For those of us that like our jazz a bit on the heavier side... [H]

Exivious - Exivious:

cover_medium.jpg

As described on the band's website:

Fusionmetal - A relatively new and unexplored genre in the world of metal. Exivious marks a first to truly marry jazzfusion with metal into a coherent new style. Featuring members of legendary US prog band CYNIC and Dutch metallers TEXTURES.

With a jazzfusion backbone Exivious uses freaky metal riffs to decorate
their organic eruption of free improvisations and complex rhythms.
Guitarist Tymon comments: "We finally managed to transform a vision I
had a long time ago into 9 intense and fiery songs!"

The band will release the album independently to preserve 100% creative
freedom. This is not only evident in their music but also in the
artwork. Their self titled debut will appear in a limited 1000 numbered
copies, each single copy bundled with its own unique artwork.

Exivious is:

Tymon (Cynic) – guitar

Michel Nienhuis (ex-Sengaia) – guitar

Robin Zielhorst (Cynic) – bass

Stef Broks (Textures) – drums

Freddie
Hubbard Tribute tonight at the Madame Walker as part of Indy Jazz Fest
2009- this show is gonna COOK!
I've got Freddie's Polar AC on the
turntable right now- can you say Ron Carter on bass, Billy Cobham
drums, Bob James producing? WOW, Freddie played with some of the best baby! yeah!
Also listened to CD Art Blakely Caravan- that's our man Freddie on there too.
Freddie Hubbard started in Indianapolis and passed away December of 2008, it's going to be an all star cast tonight playing his tunes. This should be uber-cool!

Thanks Colter.. I am not usually on this forum, but over at the 'Right Now' thread. Just happened to pick this one up this morning, so I missed many of your reports. We have XM 'Real Jazz' on all the time at home and at my shop during the day. Own a Hammond organ myself and will be looking to get into a blues band next year after my current contract with a showband ends in 2010...

Meanwhile, it looks like you are getting to see and hear some great jazz ensembles with top playing cats [;)] !

Thanks for the photo...... [:)]

blsamual, I see you !!!

Thanks for hitting me back guys. Reports, links, and more photos are HERE

I've written a blog post about Saturday's show with Derrick Gardner and the Jazz Prophets, Pancho Sanza, Soulive, and Branford Marsalis.

Next up with Sunday's post with Paharez Whitted, Kurt Elling Quartet, Steve Allee Big Band, and Marcus Miller.

Ever since hearing Marcus playing, I've been on a late-era Miles Davis kick. Got 'Around the World Live' kicking right now!
