fini
In the middle of two days watching robots battle it out, Friday night I took my wife to see k.d. lang at The Mondavi Center on the UC Davis campus. Man, what a hall, and what a performance! k.d. was witty and charming, and her voice was flawless. She worked the acoustics in this place perfectly. I heard every detail, every lyric. This concert sealed the deal: She is unquestionably my favorite vocalist. Her band was awesome, tight, un-gimmicky. She clearly appreciated them. How often have you been to a show, when the headliner introduced the band, and you had no idea what she said? lang waited for quiet, introducing each performer in their own "space." Of course, the crowd was very quiet, whenever lang spoke, or sang. They must have been in awe as we were. Three exuberant standing Os, two calls back onto stage. I'm telling you, if you are lucky enough to score tickets to one of her upcoming shows (she's now touring the east coast), you will NOT be disappointed. And if you're ever in the SF Bay Area, it'd be worth the drive to Davis to experience this beautiful hall. http://www.kdlang.com/home.php http://www.mondaviarts.org/ http://www.kdlang.com/

Islander
Live music rules. You got it!I saw k.d. lang years ago at the old Ontario Place Forum in Toronto on the rotating outdoor stage under the round roof and that was a great show, too. She had a lot of fun and so did the audience.

Lonelobo
My fellow North Texans...there's a lot of great free performances at the University of North Texas. If any of you are shy, find something on the College of Music's Website that you're interested in, send me a pm and I'll escort you and show you around. ABSOLUTELY WORLD CLASS music and most of it's free. What ain't free is cheap. I double dawg dare you all!
Marvel
We have free concerts in Chattanooga, TN, through the summer months. Friday nights, out of doors. Not the best of venues, but a good time is had by all. Caught the Flecktones there twice, Maura O'Connell, Doc Watson, and many more over the years. This years lineup is scheduled, but I don't know any of them... which makes for great fun http://downtownchattanooga.org/nightfall
