Weve all been there. Stuck at a red light trying to enjoy our music in the comfort of our own vehicles. Maybe you play a bit of air guitar, or sing along, whatever your inner child wants, its okay because youre in your car. Your bubble. Your sanctuary. That is, until, the jerk in the three thousand dollar Honda Civic with the grapefruit shooter for a tailpipe rolls up next to you and assaults you with what I can only describe as an amplified fart trapped within a soda can. Sure, hell call it bass. I call it automotive flatulence. That trunk rattling, muffler busting sound isnt bass. Its distortion. Its noise. And if youre one of these peopledo the world a favor, turn it down. The only person youre impressing is yourself which judging by the slapdash way youve snap-tightened your car isnt saying a whole lot.

that made me smile. Thanks.

I live just a block from the school. I get sereneded twice a day with traffic at a standstill before and after school.

What is impressive is from the street, how many things can be caused to rattle inside my house, starting with the windows.

Didn't Erma Bombeck say she had a handheld device that will "fry" a car stereo if pointed to the car from a distance? I'm sure it's all hogwash but it's fun to imagine.

That would be fun, I like how they leave the car doors open at the gas station like there doing me a favor.

I need to put the MWM's in the back of the truck pointing to the side and pull up next to them and see who gives up first, use them like noise canceling headphones.

I beg your pardon,,,, I like my grapefruit shooter tailpipe on my Honda... That distortion is to drown out your RAP FLAPPIN noise. So get out of the way,,I,m coming through

Oops. I think I just hit a speedbump....oh, wait, that's a little Honda... [:D]

Oh gawd, tell me about it!

Trying to get them to turn it down just doesn't seem to work, so I decided to fight fire with fire and made some upgrades to my own car's stereo. (Alpine deck with iPod hookup, 500 watt JL Audio amp, 12 inch JL Audio W3-II subwoofer and MB Quart all the way around in the interio - probably around $3,500 or so in total costs, including all the cabling, dynamatting, and installation.

Funny as hell one reaction I got when some clown in some beatup POS Ford Escort rolled up next to me at a stoplight thumping that <c>rap $#!+, complete the hatchback rattling, thinking he is all bad @$$ and whatnot. I happen to be listening to some Iron Maiden and decided to really goose it up a bit and blast it back at him. That dude gave me this nasty "WTF is that?" look. As soon as the light turned green, he took off like he wanted to get the hell out of there. I just sat there laughing my @$$ off!

Two little stories that are related to this thread and true!!

1) Some Jap Rice Burner with the sewer pipe exhaust and all the other amenities siting at a local strip mall with two Mexican kids in it.

You know the tinted headliners for the top of the front windshield that will say Honda, Toyota, etc., etc.??

They had a custom headliner on it they had made someplace that said.... "BEANS & RICE" (LMAO!!) [:o]

2) When I was down in Loisianna, saw a big "Hoopty" mobile, late 70s- early 80s Old 88 or something

similar. Of corse, he had really big custom billet rims like 24 inch or so at least. The drivers side rear tire had gone flat, and he had bolted on the spare tire, only problem was evidently this guy didn't have the cash for the 5th tire bling, and the space saver spare would not touch the ground!!

I doubt you can get one of those tires replaced on a moments notice either!! (LOL) [:)]

We had a guy that worked here for a short time that was into all of that auto sub-wooferage. Anyways the subs blew out the rear seals of his back window. So everytime it rained his truck's interior would get soaked. He couldn't afford to fix it because he spent all his dough on the equipment. Myself I'm not into car audio at all I think it's a waste of time and money.

You know, I've never thought about those if they ever got a flat! A week ago, I was in Las Veges on business. While we where out doing some of our testing, we saw this one Cadallic that had these huge 24-inch tires and rims on it. All of us sitting in this van was just like "You gotta be kidding me!". I bet that dude driving that thing probably thinks he is the most bad-@$$ thing on the road when in reality, it is probably the most retarded thing on the road! I thought it was bad enough when I saw "spinnaz" on a Ford Aerostar mini-van, but that caddy with those huge rims definitly takes the cake!

Maybe, but having that nice sound system in my car was a friggan god-send when I was driving back from Indy! Nothing like jacking in the iPod and queuing all that music and just letting 'er rip! Of course, that long commute to work was made much more bearable in having a decent sound system to enjoy my music on. I am not into talk radio and what not, prefereing to have a good source of music to listen to instead while driving.

Now, granted, I just got a decent enough system to make it worthwhile, but I am not into all that crazy stuff that some of these people really get into, prefering to spend my money on home audio instead.

I used to have one of those BOOM systems in my car as well, but I never was one to have it where my trunk was rattling. Once in a while out on a highway I'd use it more for a back massage but if in a town I'd turn it down cause it sounded good, I didn't have anything to prove and had you have it turned up, I found it made you a target to get broke into. Now that I don't have it, I miss it as the system I have now sucks and gives me a headache quicker. might as well be a Blose system.

Steven,

If you thought the spinners on the Cadilac were bad, you obviously haven't noticed black guys have gotten big into riding sport bikes...

Have you seen the billet crotch rocket rims with billet spinners yet??????

Now, that is a new one on me! Thankfully, I've not seen anything like that around here, yet. Wouldn't put it past me that. Yeah, I know about the whole sports bike thing (friggan annoying as hell, especially at night, when I hear those jack@$$es winding those things out on Rt 3. Seems they must've like to race them off that stoplight right there on the corner of Bragg and Rt 3, the one right next to my neighborhood. However, the rims and "spinnaz" on a sports bike is a new one on me.

Apparently, these guys don't know the definition of "Tacky" at all.

I live in the liberal state of Maryland so when I'm at a stop light idling next to a car with an "Obama For President" or "Don't Blame Me, I voted Democrat" bumper sticker, I like to roll down the windows and crank up Rush Limbaugh or Mark Levin on AM talk radio.[:D]

The most fun you can have with the Big Fart Pipe crowd is to choose them off the line and watch them receed in the rear view mirror as the pressure wave breaks out of the modified exhaust... (loss of port scavanging, the vacuum behind the pressure wave in the exhaust literally pulls the exhaut out of adjacent cylinders, means loss of up to 20% of horsepower.)

I love the look on their faces when they get dusted by a 90HP deisel VW Jetta [;)]
