maze
is there a way to test speakers that are not connected to a source?
Oblio
Welcome to the forums. A simple, non-exhaustive test would be to check the DC resistance with an ohm meter. It should read a couple of ohms. A better check would be to drive them with an MP3 player. Most Klipsch are efficient enough to determine if all the drivers are operational with such a low level source, though you might run into a damaged driver that only distorts at higher levels. Make a phono to speaker wire 'adaptor' and take it with you to demo the units.
HiFi Heaven
Speaker wire and a battery, 1.5 to 9 volts. Connect the speaker, swipe the other end across the battery - you should hear output from each driver. Steve
PrestonTom
WAIT !!!! This is okay to do with a woofer. Are you sure you want to do this with a tweeter (especially if a crossover is not in the circuit)?
Invidiosulus
tear up some little squares of newsprint and layer them between alternating nickles and pennies, spit on the newsprint to cause a slight acidic reaction, instant low voltage battery that shoud get you some very small sounds out of a driver. works best on individual drivers. If you added a coconut, could you make a radio? Sounds like something from Gilligan's Island or MacGyver. Kinda cool, though.
Groomlakearea51
Works with lemon juice and....... And if you are desperate for an acid source, pee pee!!!!.... Just keep the wires and the battery assembly well away from the speaker and that way you won't "spray" the speaker when you make the battery "live". It attracts cats later..... [H] Just kidding!!! lemon juice does work well, however, on a "science experiment" battery.

Cheaper than using "Cheap Red Wine" as suggested in the ancient Sumerian "Book of Strange Things To Make That Will Puzzle Archaeologists 3000 Years Later" .....
